Abstract: Techniques include receiving a user notification (e.g., a text-based notification, a phone call, or a voicemail) at a user device. The techniques further include receiving a pressure input from a user of the device at a pressure-sensitive display of the device and determining that the display is covered (e.g., obscured from the user's view). The techniques also include, in response to receiving the pressure input and determining that the display is covered, performing an action associated with the notification using the device (e.g., speak or playback the notification at the device, enable the user to vocally interact with the notification at the device, or forward the notification to another device for display, speech or playback output, and/or user vocal interaction). Additional techniques include, in response to receiving the pressure input and determining that the display is covered, setting the device into a predetermined state (e.g., of a software application).

Abstract: A system and method for managing sizing of a plurality of sliding download windows in a virtual file system commences when a user device accesses a server in a cloud-based platform. An application on the user device issues a first file request for an object that is stored in the cloud-based platform. The virtual file system module allocates a first sliding window and prospectively downloads additional portions of the object into the first sliding window. Upon a second file request from the application, the virtual file system module allocates a second sliding window and increases the size of the first sliding window when the application requests access to the additional portions of the object that were prospectively downloaded into the first sliding window. Abstract: Inter-context coordination to facilitate synchronized presentation of image content is described. In example embodiments, an application includes multiple execution contexts that coordinate handling user interaction with a coordination policy established using an inter-context communication mechanism. The application produces first and second execution contexts that are responsible for user interaction with first and second image content, respectively. Generally, the second execution context provides a stipulation for the coordination policy to indicate which execution context is to handle a response to a given user input event. With an event routing policy, an event routing rule informs the first execution context if a user input event should be routed to the second execution context.

Abstract: Real-time managing multiple display windows on a screen for multiple users each allowed to request reserving an area on the screen and each having a priority value indicating a level of right to use the screen is considered. In a method, the screen is partitioned into grid-area units. Upon receiving a request from a requesting user, determine a target window formed by one or more of these units to cover the area to be reserved. Whether the requesting user is permitted to use the target window is then determined. If permitted, the target window is allocated to the requesting user as a new window. If the target window overlaps any already-allocated display window, the already-allocated window is adjusted (resized/removed) to not overlap the target window. All the allocated windows are then tiled one by one in an order according to the users' priority values for maximizing the screen's usage percentage.

  • Patent number: 9472006
Abstract: A system and method for label placement is disclosed that achieves the twin goals of practical efficiency and high labeling quality by employing cartographic heuristics. A caller defines map and label properties. Then labels are pulled within a map boundary. Labels are next ordered by priority in descending importance. The order of testing labels is determined. Attempts are made to move overlapping labels. This is an iterative process; therefore there must be criteria that halt the procedure. Upon reaching an acceptable solution, the label properties are adjusted to reflect the new label placements.

Abstract: A focus part of an object is displayed in an actual display area, which is a part of a display target area set within a window that is visible on a screen, without changing the size of the focus part and the layout of the display object. A control unit sets a reference point P based on the positions of a display element and the actual display area in a drawing target area (22), in which a Web page is drawn, so that the display element is displayed in the actual display area, which is an area not covered with another window (16a) within a Web page display target area (20). For example, the control unit (a) displays the display element without changing the size and (b) minimizes a blank area that is created when the reference point P is moved, or (c) preferentially displays, from among a plurality of display elements, display elements that are relatively high in priority order in the actual display area.
