Abstract: A method of controlling a mobile terminal and includes displaying on a display of the mobile terminal a list having a plurality of items, identifying a selected item of the plurality items of the list, and detecting movement of the mobile terminal. The method further includes displaying on the display a menu having a plurality of items that are each associated with a function which can be performed based upon information associated with the selected item, wherein the displaying of the menu is in response to the detecting of the movement of the mobile terminal.

Abstract: A sheet resizing module operating in cooperation with an automatic imposition module provides for the automatic imposition of fold out sheets using an imposition template tailored for regular sized sheets. The imposition module can impose the pages of a document as if all the pages are regular sized. A sheet resizing module automatically adjusts the size of those sheets onto which fold out pages have been imposed. The sheet resizing module can employ a number of resizing rules to determine which of the sheet's four edges to move and how much to move them.

Abstract: Receiving commands from a remote controller and automatically activating display areas for cursor navigation. Content display areas within a display frame respectively correspond to a variety of content items and include a primary display area wherein cursor navigation is activated and secondary display areas wherein cursor navigation is prevented. Remote controller navigational commands, for example, then allow cursor based navigation for the content item currently displayed in the primary display area. A content selection command such as a number key input of the remote controller allows immediate and automatic updating of the primary display area to include a desired content item that is associated to the command (e.g., the particular number).

Abstract: A network advertising system and method includes a network server, a computer user, an electronic banner advertisement (BA) file, multiple web page files, a BA program, and a monitor. The BA is displayed on the monitor in a window of a browser program from about the point in time that a new web page is requested to about the point in time that the web page file corresponding to the new web page is downloaded onto the user computer and ready for viewing. The BA offers an advertising venue that will serve up a very discernible advertisement, uncluttered by other content that captivates the viewer's interest, at a point of time that a web (Internet or other network) surfer is willing and amenable to review additional data and information. This is typically a down-time, interstitial period, during a browser session. However, by displaying the advertisement as described, most web surfers will pay attention to the BA and the message that it is providing.

Abstract: Speed reading and reading comprehension capabilities are provided on an electronic device for one or more users. A method involves accessing reading material including text on the electronic device, accessing a graphical user interface to present the reading material, determining a number of lines of text to present within a windowed area within the graphical user interface, and presenting the reading material in the graphical user interface. An area in the graphical user interface that is located outside of the windowed area is grayed, shaded or partially obscured, and the text is presented both within the windowed area and outside of the windowed area. Statistics can be presented for at least assessing a reading rate of the user, comparing two or more reading rates of the user over different time intervals, or comparing a reading rate of the user with a reading rate of another user.

Abstract: An apparatus for overlaying images includes a broadcast image layer generator, an application image layer generator, and an overlay processor. The broadcast image layer generator generates a broadcast image layer based on a received broadcast signal. The application image layer generator generates an application image layer based on an application image. The overlay processor generates an overlay image obtained by overlaying the broadcast image layer with the application image layer, so that a broadcast image corresponding to the broadcast image layer and an application image corresponding to the application image layer may be displayed simultaneously on a screen. The broadcast image and the application image may be displayed simultaneously on a screen, and visibility and readability of a text in the application image may be enhanced based on the user's preference and the user's recognition ability when the portable device performs multi-tasking in which multiple programs are simultaneously executed.

Abstract: In a device having a display, a change in focus for an application is used with a requested usage of a context attribute to change the amount of information regarding the context attribute that is sent to another application. A method of changing the orientation of images on a device's display detects movement followed by an end of movement of the device. The orientation of the device is then determined and is used to set the orientation of images on the display. A method of setting the orientation of a display also includes storing information regarding an item displayed in a first orientation before changing the orientation. When the orientation is returned to the first orientation, the stored information is retrieved and is used to display the item in the first orientation. The stored information can include whether the item is to appear in the particular orientation.

Abstract: The present invention is a method and system for changing the presence of a user profile logged into a communication device on a communications network relative to the active call mode of the communication device. In the first embodiment, the communication device first receives an indication that an event involving the communication device has triggered active call mode. The communication device next determines the new presence corresponding to the event triggering active call mode, and communicates the new presence to the communications network. In the second embodiment, the communication device is coupled to a client device. The client device receives an indication that an event involving the communication device has triggered active call mode and determines the new presence for the user profile corresponding to the event. The new presence for the user profile logged into the communication device is then communicated to the communications network.

Abstract: Within a communication device having a plurality of displays, a method of controlling the displays can include, responsive to receiving an event from an application within a display manager, determining whether a single event or multiple events are pending (430). If a single event is pending, the method can include instructing the application to write data corresponding to the received event to a primary display of the communication device (435). The display manager can write data corresponding to the received event to a secondary display (445). If multiple events are pending, the method can include preventing the application from writing data to the primary display (470). The display manager can write data corresponding to the multiple events to the primary display and the secondary display without involvement of the application (475). The display manager further can launch a specific application in response to an event (500).

Abstract: Methods and apparatus provide for a Cache Manager to display a scaled image in an active view. The scaled image comprises the same content as an image from a stored collection of images, which is accessible by a plurality of active views in a user interface. The Cache Manager refreshes the active view to replace the displayed scaled image with a larger-sized image, which comprises the same content as the displayed scaled image. A reference counter associated with the larger-sized image is maintained to keep track of instances of display of the larger-sized image by any of the plurality of active views. The Cache Manager allows any other active view to use the larger-sized image while a current value of the reference counter is greater than zero.

Abstract: The invention relates to a method for locating a teleport target station for teleporting between at least one teleport source station and at least one teleport target station in a virtual world, the method including: associating a specific teleport target station object with the at least one teleport target station; associating a current location with the object; and broadcasting the current location of the target station object into at least one communication channel in the virtual world.

Abstract: System and a method by means of which different windows of an Multi Document Interface (MDI) application can be displayed at the same time within an application on several screens. In addition, instances of the source frame of the MDI application are displayed on further screens and the windows of the application with the corresponding documents can then be displayed in the sequence frame instances of the MDI application. In this way, the display of the parallel side-by-side arrangement of several windows on several screens is possible, the resolution of the window being adapted to the screen resolution.

Abstract: An improved application sharing system and method are described wherein an application sharing viewing display is modified to increase the likelihood that a viewing user is able to see without scrolling the entirety of a window of interest displayed by a sharing user on a sharing machine. The scale of the viewer representation of the window of interest may be substantially continuously varied so as to best account for the particular size of the available display area at the viewing machine. In a further embodiment of the invention, the viewer's attention may be focused by filtering of the shared display material to visually enhance the current window of interest.

Abstract: Various technologies and techniques are disclosed that allow a user interface in a managed runtime environment to display content from two or more different partitioned process spaces. A software application having a user interface operates a managed runtime environment. A window handle allows a user interface of the application to display content from different partitioned process spaces at a same time. Information from the partitioned process spaces can be integrated within the user interface while preserving a level of isolation between the partitioned process spaces. This is accomplished by providing a first portion of a content container for the user interface with a host control that contains the window handle and resides in a first partitioned process space of a main window. A second portion of the content container is provided with a source control that provides the window handle and resides in a second partitioned process space.

Abstract: The disclosed implementations allow automatic and transparent creation of data relationships in a database application or other application in response to user generated trigger events. Related data records can be stored and displayed in layouts, screens, forms and user interfaces provided by the database application or other application. Abstract: Some embodiments are directed to techniques for displaying a user interface of an application program on a display device. The display device may be partitioned into two portions, such that the user interface and a computer desktop are displayed in separate portions of the display. Abstract: In an example embodiment, an online advertising management platform maintains an account that includes data relating to an order for advertising provided by an ad network affiliated with the platform. When the platform receives a login that identifies a user as having access rights to the account, the platform displays a view that includes a window displaying data relating to the order and a toolbar in a standardized location relative to the window. The toolbar includes a tab. When the user clicks on the tab, the platform displays a tabbed window that includes a list of the informational messages, regardless of whether an informational message on the list has been read or dismissed by another user allowed access to the account. The platform locates the window contiguous to the toolbar over some but not all of the view displaying the data relating to the order.

Abstract: Management of controls in a graphical user interface (GUI) of a computer system. In one aspect, a command is received to create and display a window in the GUI, the window including one or more controls, each control operative to perform a function of an application in response to selection. An associated scope for each control is determined and indicates an extent of shared use of the control within the GUI. It is determined if a different instance of the control already exists within the scope for the control. If so, resources of the different instance are referenced to be shared for use with the control and new resources are not created for the control. If no different instance exists within the scope, new resources for the control are created and stored. The window and the controls in the GUI are displayed.

The image features each have one or more characteristics representing one or more hybridization reactions associated with a probe of the probe array. The GUI also has a second openable window including data features, each relating to one or more quantifications of one or more hybridization reactions associated with a probe of the probe array. This second window may be, for example, a scatter plot of hybridization intensities of probes to two or more labeled samples. The GUI further includes a third openable window including descriptive features such as rows of a spreadsheet. Each row may include descriptive elements associated with a probe.

Abstract: Computer-storage media, computerized methods and systems for formatting a page layout according to form factors of a display area are provided. Initially, search results are received and dynamically converted into respective block-level elements, where each of the block-level elements is associated with a portion of content from one of the received search results. Form factors are retrieved from a graphical user interface. Typically the form factors are associated with properties of a display area initiated to present the search results. At least one adaptive template is selected according to the retrieved form factors. The portion of content of each of the block-level elements is formatted based on at least one adaptive template. Also, the adaptive template is utilized to establish content panes within the page layout, as directed by the form factors. These content panes are populated with one or more of the block-level elements.

Abstract: A high level interface between a remote computer and local computer operator permits the remote computer to be controlled via a sequence of interactions. The remote computer may be monitored for display information which is expected, and also controlled in the event the expected information either is or is not obtained. Command language extensions are provided which extend and complement a basic scripting language. Scripts with embedded command language extensions may be executed through a remote interface, permitting remote testing, operation and evaluation. Abstract: A method is presented for representing anomalies to a process. These anomalies are represented in an anti-pattern, which depicts non-productive emergent information that describes activities that are detrimental to the progress of the process. The anti-pattern includes visually-coded areas that describe how severe the detrimental activities are to the process when combined. After the anti-pattern is created for the process, new non-productive emergent information for a current process is mapped onto the anti-pattern in the form of data patterns represented as visual fences. Appropriate steps are then taken to address the new non-productive emergent information, depending on the visually-coded area to which the new non-productive emergent information is mapped.

Abstract: Some embodiments provide a method for displaying content. The method provides a first display area for displaying content and receiving modifications to the content. The method provides a second display area for displaying a preview of the content. In some embodiments, a modification to the content automatically causes a corresponding modification to the preview. In some embodiments, the size of the content is larger than the size of the first display area and the first display area only displays a portion of the content. In some such embodiments, the second display area displays the entirety of the preview of the entire content at once. Some embodiments also provide a window in the second display area that indicates in the preview the portion of the content concurrently displayed in the first display area.

Abstract: A method and apparatus is described for producing a translucent image over a base image created on the display screen of a computer system by a selected first application program, and conducting image operations either on the base image created by the selected application program with reference to the translucent image produced, or conducting image operations on the translucent image with reference to the base image of the first application program. The first application program runs on a central processing unit (CPU) of a computer system to produce a base image, and another application program referred to as the overlay program is run to produce the translucent image such that portions of the base image which are overlapped by the overlay image are at least partially visible through the translucent image. There is also a mechanism for blending the first video data and the second video data to produce a blended image on the screen assembly.
