Abstract: An application status system is described herein that informs the user about application-specific status updates and notifications through a changing status icon associated with an application-switching user interface displayed by an operating system when the application is running. When an application has focus, there is typically no way for another application to display status to the user without displaying a dialog box or a notification balloon that interrupts the user. The application status system takes advantage of the existing application-switching user interface to display a lightweight status icon overlay on the application-switching user interface itself. Thus, the application status system allows applications to provide application-specific status updates without interrupting a user's activity in another application and without adding additional UI for a user to process.

Abstract: One implementation provides a computer program product tangibly embodied in an information carrier. The computer program product includes instructions that, when executed, perform a method for processing a message related to an electronic document. The method includes transmitting an electronic document having a unique identifier from a first system to a second system and receiving at the first system a message from the second system related to content contained in the electronic document. The message includes a predetermined field for the unique identifier that links the message to the electronic document. The method may also include notifying a user of the first system that the first system received the message. The notifying may include updating a list of tasks. One of the tasks may indicate that the user may view the received message on the first system.

Abstract: The present disclosure generally pertains to systems and methods for displaying node information in wireless sensor networks. An exemplary system has logic that is configured to display a list of nodes in a wireless sensor network. The logic is further configured to display a plurality of function identifiers in response to a first user input identifying one of the nodes, and the function identifiers identify a plurality of functions and a script image of the one node. The logic is further configured to receive a second user input selecting one of the function identifiers and to transmit a remote procedure call through the wireless network to the one node in response to the second user input. The one node is configured to run the function or script image identified by the selected function identifier in response to the remote procedure call.

Abstract: An indexing system in a computer system may include applications, a capture processor, a queue, a search engine, and a display processor. The indexing system captures events of user interactions with the applications. Events are queued and if indexable, indexed and stored for user access through the search engine. Capture components in the capture processor can include a keyboard capture component that processes user keystrokes to determine events. A display capture component captures event data from windows associated with the applications. Display event data can be captured on a polling schedule or based on state changes of window elements. To determine target applications and window applications of interest application profiles and window profiles can be used.

Abstract: A framework is provided for obtaining window information. The window information can be applied to different assignment models to assign windows to different groups. A group may correspond to a task being performed by a user. The window information can be semantic or temporal information captured as window events and properties of windows whose events are captured. Temporal information can be information about switches between windows. Semantic information can be window titles. Temporal information, semantic information, or both, can be used to assign windows to groups.

Abstract: Converting a computer user interface panel between different panel types. An automated process is activated that reads field attributes of a first panel in a computer system. A configuration table associated with the first panel is tied to logic that specifies how the panel of the first type interacts with a backend of the computer system. Entries are created in a second configuration table that can be used to display a second panel in the computer system. The second panel comprises at least some of the plurality of fields and belongs to a second type of panels in which a panel of the second type is formed of configuration table entries and is independent of the backend. The automated process converts the field attributes to be compatible with the second type of panels and stores them in the second configuration table for use in displaying the second panel.

Abstract: A user interface for operating an applicator for medical and aesthetic treatment using RF and ultrasound energies, with or without vacuum, comprising: a display, a plurality of views each configured to occupy at least a section of the display, the views adapted to present data responsive to physiological signals, applicator parameters and treatment parameters, a plurality of icons configured to occupy a portion of the views and adapted to designate the content of the views, wherein one of the views provides parameters setting tools, another of the views presents treatment progress, and at least one of the icons can be selected so as to switch the display between the views.

Abstract: Various aspects and embodiments are directed to a graphical user interface that organizes interface elements into views of computer content for presentation to a user. Different views of are used to provide an interface that is responsive to configurations of the device and responsive to activity being performed by the user. Aspects include permitting the user to transition the device from one configuration to another during its use, for example from easel to laptop modes. Further the elements that comprise the graphical user interface are configured to present a summarized view of available actions and content, in order to simplify user interaction. The different views present different organizations of the interface elements and in some example display only certain ones of the modes of content in order to reduce the number of options a user must navigate to accomplish an objective. According to another aspect, methods and systems for streamlining user interaction with computer content are provided.

Abstract: Methods and systems for providing a visual indication of hung applications are provided. When an application is in a hung state, an application window is replaced with a proxy window. The appearance of the proxy window is altered when a user attempts to interact with the proxy window.

Abstract: A computer executes a program, wherein said computer opens a usage window of a user interface of the program when calling said the program. In the execution of the program with an opened usage window, the computer receives usage commands for a usage part of the program from a user of the computer via an input device. The computer presents the usage commands during the input of the usage commands in the usage window, or in a usage command window of the user interface that is associated with the usage window. The computer effects the execution of a usage action corresponding with the respective usage command after the validation of the respective usage command. Furthermore, the computer receives retrieval commands from the user via the input device to retrieve additional information. The computer presents the retrieval commands in a retrieval command window of the user interface during the input of said retrieval commands.

Abstract: This is a system (as an example) to prevent an undesirable condition of a second application GUI interface window blocking the first application GUI interface window, while the user's focus is on the first window, and causes an unintended input into a wrong application. This is accomplished (as an example) by temporarily discarding the inputs while the Graphical cursor is located on the 2nd application's GUI interface for a predetermined amount of time and gives the user enough time to refocus on this new application GUI interface.

Abstract: A system and method for comparing information from different sources in which anchor links identifying categories of information are embedded within reports on a plurality of items to be compared, and in which a plurality of dynamic frames are provided in a visual display, each frame displaying the portion of a report for a different one of the plurality of items to be compared, which portion corresponds to a designated common anchor link.

Abstract: A method for efficient processing of data displayed by a window includes identifying a window displayed to a user of a computing device. The method includes executing a window handler filter routine, responsive to the identification, and obtaining, by the window handler filter routine, window identification information associated with the displayed window. The method includes preventing, by the window handler filter routine, operation, by a window handler routine, on application output data displayed in the window when the window identification information associated with the window represents a type of window listed within a list of types of windows.

Abstract: A method and system for overlaying an object in a window of a software application where an overlay plane is composed of at least one object and the overlay plane is overlaid with the window using either a layering feature of the software application or by directly compositing the overlay plane with the window using enhanced functionality not included in the software application. The overlaying of the overlay plane in relation to the window does not depend on a cursor or pointing device designated position but may rather, for example, be arbitrarily placed or may be positioned in proximity to the text or graphic link used to initiate the overlaying process. The method and system may be implemented using a plugin-control for the software application.

Abstract: Disclosed are a method for displaying a program execution window based on a user's location and a computer system that embodies the method, wherein a window of a selected and executed program is displayed on a selected local zone of a displaying screen. The computer system includes a microprocessor, a system memory, and a program storage device storing therein a program-window-displayed-location control program and application programs that can be selected and executed by a user. When the microprocessor executes the control program, the control program detects if any one of the application programs is selected by the user and uses a user location identification device to determine which one of a plurality of local zones that constitute the displaying screen that the user is located on. Then, a window of the execution of the selected application programs is displayed on the one of the local zones of the displaying screen.

Abstract: Methods and systems for providing information to a user when an application is in a hung state are provided. When an application is in a hung state, a dialogue box informing the user of options for responding to the hung application is displayed. An application window may also be replaced with a proxy window and the appearance of the proxy window may be altered when a user attempts to interact with the proxy window.

Abstract: An object is associated with one or more controls in a software application. An object associated with a control determines the operation of the data entry user interface when the data entry user interface is being employed to enter data into the control. More particularly, the object may communicate interface e characteristics to a component that is responsible for providing the user interface to the user. Such a component may be, for example, a shared software module that renders the user interface on a display, receives input data from the user through the user interface, and routes the entered data to a designated destination. Alternately, the object itself may create a user interface having the specified characteristics.

An object associated with a control determines the operation of the data entry user interface when the data entry user interface is being employed to enter data into the control. More particularly, the object may communicate interface e characteristics to a component that is responsible for providing the user interface to the user. Such a component may be, for example, a shared software module that renders the user interface on a display, receives input data from the user through the user interface, and routes the entered data to a designated destination. Alternately, the object itself may create a user interface having the specified characteristics.

Abstract: Security levels and positional information in the Z-axis direction (Z-order) of windows on the screen with a limitation. A program that is assigned a low security level cannot become higher than a program that is assigned a high security level in the Z-axis direction. In addition, a restriction is imposed on information flow via a clipboard and a window message from a higher program to a lower program in the Z-axis direction. The security levels are managed on the window basis according to attributes of files to be accessed or documents to be displayed. The display state of each window in the desktop is dynamically controlled depending on the security level of the window on which a user actually performs operation. The visual states of system resources such as printers and drives are controlled in accordance with the assigned security level.

Abstract: Various embodiments are provided herein of a method of displaying an inbox window of a message application. The method includes partitioning a display of the inbox window into a first message display region and a second message display region, displaying located messages that satisfy user-defined designation criteria in the first message display region; and displaying remaining messages of the inbox window in the second message display region. The method can be performed by a communications device and can also be stored as program code on a computer readable medium.

Abstract: A system and method for implementing an active role-based organization structure. The system is configured for use with one or more applications. The system also includes a user interface for providing data to each of the one or more applications and displaying data from each of the one or more applications; and means for establishing a plurality of role-related windows and associating one or more properties with each respective one of the plurality of role-related windows. An active resources directory is coupled to the user interface and stores the one or more properties associated with each respective one of the role-related windows. The user interface is then configured to display data from each of the one or more applications based on the plurality of role-related windows and the one or more properties associated with each one of the plurality of role-related windows.

Abstract: A user interface for a hand-held device is provided that allows users to activate the full “card” for an entry using one gesture on a button while also giving the user the ability to reach a menu of context dependent commands using a second gesture on a button. In particular, certain button inputs are recognized as context menu gestures. When these gestures are made, a context menu appears. The user is then able to select a command in the context menu that is to be performed. A user is also allowed to open context menus while only using one hand to operate and hold the device.

Abstract: A reminder method and user interface for an electronic device, including displaying a picture on the electronic device, activating a timer associated with the picture for generating a reminder after a programmable time period, and generating the reminder on the electronic device after the programmable time period, wherein the reminder includes displaying the picture.

Abstract: A wizard user interface capable of being cancelled and later resumed without loss of data is disclosed. Canceling from the wizard prior to its completion will optionally cause data entered on any of the wizard's pages to be saved to a file and stored in non-volatile memory. Subsequent invocation of the same wizard user interface will optionally cause the data to be read from the file and repopulated into the wizard's pages to restore the cancelled wizard to its pre-cancellation state. The user interface accordingly permits data entry to be performed in phases, with the wizard being exited between phases.

Abstract: Methods, devices and systems are provided that display images in a manner that provides for effective space management. At least one item is horizontally displayed in a first display area. Upon selection by a user of at least one item from the first display area, an indication of the at least one item is vertically displayed in a second display area.

Abstract: An image displaying device for displaying images and related information is provided. The image displaying device includes a display unit, a storage and a central controller. The storage stores at least an image file and at least a related information file associated with the image files. The central controller includes a display controller which is configured for dividing the display unit into a first region and a second region and displaying an image defined by the image file in the first region and related information recorded by the related information file in the second region. A related method is also provided.

Abstract: Methods and apparatus for simultaneously displaying multiple-contexts in a page-oriented viewing architecture utilize the concept of page pinning in which a portion of a first document context is displayed as a fixed frame overlayed on or placed beside the display of a second document context. A user may navigate within the second document context while viewing the portion of the first document context as a pinned page on the display. Thus, a single navigational focus is maintained even though multiple contexts are displayed in the page-oriented architecture. Page pinning may be used to view two non-contiguous locations in a single electronic document or to view two pages of respective different electronic documents. A pinned page can be used to hold a particular context while a command set is executed from a command document viewed as the second context.

Abstract: A method of controlling an electronic device includes executing one of a calendar application and a message application and providing a respective one of a calendar user interface and a messaging user interface, receiving a view command from a user input of the electronic device in the one of the calendar user interface and the messaging user interface, the view command relating to a time period, executing the other of the calendar application and the message application in response to receipt of the view command, and displaying a respective one of a calendar application view and a message application view based on the time period.

Abstract: A palmtop computer system that incorporates mechanical buttons that combine the task of turning the palmtop computer system on and starting a particular application program. Furthermore, the same mechanical button can be used to navigate the application program to find the information that is most likely needed by the user. Additionally, external devices can be coupled to the palmtop computer system in a manner that allows the external hardware device to initiate specific application programs that cooperate with the external hardware device.

Abstract: An image display device is provided. The device includes a display screen, a storage unit, and a processing unit. The storage unit stores images and selection interface information. The selection interface information includes a plurality of catalogues each of which collects one or more images. The processing unit includes a selection interface display module, a selection control module, and an image search module. The selection interface display module controls the display screen to display a selection interface that provides the catalogues for selection according to the selection interface information. The selection control module generates a selection signal in response to a selection operation on the selection interface. The selection signal indicates which catalogue on the selection interface is selected. The image search module searches the storage unit for the images according to the selection signal. An image display method is also provided.

Abstract: In order to efficiently display a plurality of images on a display screen, the display screen is divided into a number of areas based on the number of images that are designated for display. For example, if four information items are selected and designated for display, the screen is divided into four areas, each area displaying one of the selected information items. Image information is reduced in size for display in each divided area, and sound information can be represented by a corresponding symbol (e.g., a musical note). If five or more information items are selected and designated for display, then the screen is divided into nine areas, and each of the selected images is displayed in one of the divided areas.

Abstract: An interface for navigating and previewing content is provided. In one example, an interface includes a plurality of content modules displayed in a two-dimensional array, each content module associated with a summary of content and an initial display. The initial display may include, for example, an image and text associated with the content. Selection of a content module causes a display of the summary of the content within the display space of the content module, and subsequent to the selection (e.g., in response to a user selecting a new content module or indicating they are done) the content module display is different than the initial display, thereby allowing a user to determine which content modules have been previously selected. The summary of the content may include a portion of the associated content, and may further include a link for accessing the associated content.

Abstract: A screen capture tool reduces information transfer when capturing a series of screen areas. For example, the screen capture tool reduces usage of Bit Block Transfer operations from a display card frame buffer to system memory. The screen capture tool scans pixel values in portions of a screen area to detect changes relative to a previously captured screen area, identifying portions to be updated by BitBlt operation. Or, the screen capture tool analyzes display driver commands to identify portions of a screen area to be updated by BitBlt operation. The screen capture tool then constructs a representation of the screen area. For example, the screen capture tool provides portions of the screen area that do not require a BitBlt operation (which may involve copying or other use of pixel information already in system memory) and then captures other portions of the screen area by BitBlt operation.

Abstract: Display windows associated with one or more software applications are differentiated with a pictograph drawn in each window. The user can then quickly and easily distinguish between windows of the same application or between applications by referring to the pictograph, rather than having to read small text and graphics located in the title bar of the windows. A pictograph may be a watermark which is visible through any overlying text or graphics in the window.

Abstract: A system, method, program product and service for navigating and displaying hierarchically structured data. A system is provided that includes: a graphical data display system for displaying a structured diagram having a plurality of nodes; a navigation system for allowing a user to launch a viewport at a selected node within the structured diagram to view subnodes of the selected node; and a context maintenance system that maintains a visual context between each of the plurality of nodes and subnodes within the structured diagram.

Abstract: Systems and methods for patent and claim tracking are described. Embodiments include tracking changes in claims through amendments, and displaying the claims in a marked-up format for viewing the changes. Other embodiments include recording and displaying references that may have been cited against a patent application and its claims. Other embodiments are described and claimed.

Abstract: A storage medium including an interactive graphic stream providing menus using various transition effects regardless of reproducing modes of multimedia data and an apparatus for reproducing the same. The storage medium in which multimedia information is recorded includes: video data; and graphic data to provide a menu screen overlaid on an image based on the video data, wherein the graphic data provides a plurality of menu pages. Accordingly, a plurality of menu pages may be provided regardless of application types of a main stream, and various transition effects may be applied when transitions between menu pages are performed.

Abstract: Techniques are described for identifying items that have recently undergone an interest burst. Items that have recently undergone an interest burst are identified by comparing how many interest-actions have been performed on the items during a current time window against how many interest-actions have been performed on the items historically. Various tests are performed to rule out candidates that are not likely to be of interest to other users. In addition, various spam detection techniques are described for reducing the possibility that the items that are listed as interest burst items are listed because of spam.

Abstract: The invention provides a novel method for interacting with content objects stored in computer devices connected as nodes of a communications network, each node including an input interface and an output interface, the output interface including a display area. A first display area of a first node is partitioned into a first private work area and a first personal work area associated with the first node. A second display area of a second node is partitioned into a set of second personal work areas and a public work area, each second personal work area associated with other nodes and the public work area associated with all of the nodes. A particular content object of the first node in the first private work area is visualized as a content item according to attributes enabled by the visualizing and moved from the first private work area to the first personal work area.

Abstract: A conditional text publication system and method. Conditional text publication allows for the publication of text that varies based on data values associated with the text. More specifically, allows for the inclusion and exclusion of text to or from a publication based on clauses such as conditional clause, functions such as database functions, and operators such as mathematical, logical and set operators that utilize selectors such as fields, attributes, validations, families and other entities associated with data in a database.

Abstract: The present invention provides a device and a method for displaying appropriately on the display area for each processing unit such as an application according to the applied equipment. The CPU 12 processes display area acquisition requests from a plurality of processing units R1-Rn according to a display management program. The display management program decides whether use of the display area is allowed to each processing unit, considering the relationship of the plurality of display areas requested from each processing unit R1-Rn. Each processing unit R1-Rn executes display processing for the display area for which use is allowed. In this way, whether use is allowed is notified from the display management program to each processing unit R1-Rn after each processing unit R1-Rn sends the display area acquisition request. As a consequence, display in a plurality of areas by each processing unit R1-Rn can be controlled appropriately.

Abstract: An improved application sharing system and method are described wherein an application sharing viewing display is modified to increase the likelihood that a viewing user is able to see without scrolling the entirety of a window of interest displayed by a sharing user on a sharing machine. The scale of the viewer representation of the window of interest may be substantially continuously varied so as to best account for the particular size of the available display area at the viewing machine. In a further embodiment of the invention, the viewer's attention may be focused by filtering of the shared display material to visually enhance the current window of interest.

Abstract: Data from a data set is displayed as a tree map visualization by identifying data elements in the data set to be highlighted and generating a tree map visualization based on the data set where a location of bounding boxes corresponding to the identified data elements have greater color saturation in comparison to other bounding boxes.

Abstract: A method and system for organizing windows associated with an application are described. In one embodiment, a user command pertaining to multiple internal windows is received. The multiple internal windows are contained within a first frame controlled by an application. In response to the user command, a second frame controlled by the application is opened. Further, one or more of the multiple internal windows are moved to the second frame. In one embodiment, the internal windows are moved to the second frame in response to an operation performed by a user (e.g., a drag-and-drop operation). Alternatively, the internal windows are moved to the second frame automatically based on a criterion controlling the organization of the internal frames.

Abstract: A method and apparatus is disclosed herein for avoiding disorientation under discontinuous navigation in an image flipping system. In one embodiment, the method comprises serially displaying a sequence of page images in an order; receiving a user input to stop sequencing through the page images; determining a location of a page image in the sequence of page images representing a point at which the user intended to stop in the sequence of page images but for display speed of the sequence of images and user reaction time in providing an indication of the point at which the user intended to stop; and automatically jumping back to the page image at the location in the sequence of page images while displaying multiple intervening page images as the location is being approached.

Abstract: A workflow, enterprise, and mail-enabled application server and platform supports distributed computing and remote execution of web applications. Lotus Domino online services (DOLS) is used by a web site administrator to configure Internet Notes (iNotes) clients to auto download from server, thus providing iNotes clients with web access using HTTP with various browsers, and with local processing and replication. A local run time model comprises a hierarchy of models including object data store model, security model, indexing model, replication model, agent workflow model and mail model. DOLS provides a layered security model that allows flexibility for controlling access to all or part of an application. The highest level of security is managed through a database access control list (ACL). Further refinements within the security model provide access to specific documents, and their views, forms or folders, and include read access lists, write access lists, form access lists and readers and authors fields.

Abstract: A network distributable emulated menu. The menu can include one or more composite images, each image including menu text and a graphical icon, the icon denoting a selectable menu; one or more selectable form-based input elements, each element encapsulating one of the composite images; and a graphical image of a menu structure, the graphical image including at least one form-based input element encapsulating a reference to a composite image of menu text and a graphical icon, the icon denoting at least one of a menu action and a selectable menu. Additionally, the emulated menu can include one or more table cells, each cell containing one of the selectable form-based input elements. Finally, the menu structure can include at least one of a textual menu action, a graphically selectable menu action, and a nested menu structure.

Abstract: A view controller, such as a scroll bar, for a first application which is currently displayed within an inactive window is detached and remotely displayed within an active window in addition to the view controller associated with the content of that active window. A Dynamic Data Exchange (DDE) link is then established between the remotely displayed view controller and the first application such that user inputs to the remotely displayed view controller can be utilized to modify the display of the first application without requiring the user to activate the inactive window. In this manner data within the first application can be scrolled and visually accessed by the user while the user is working within an active window, without requiring the user to toggle the focus back and forth between two windows.
