Abstract: An intuitive user interface for clearing or deleting a structured data element is provided. One or more elements in a data structure may be selected and upon selection of a delete option, the contents of the one or more elements may be cleared. One or more animating panels may be provided which contain elements around the cleared elements. A panel may be moved by a gesture-type action to replace cleared elements. The panels may visually indicate which elements may be moved in place of the cleared elements. The user can visualize how elements may be shifted instead of having to understand terminology in a dialog. Selecting outside the panels may cause the panels to disappear, which may be equivalent to a clear action where other elements are not moved into the place of the deleted elements.

Abstract: The present invention provides a method and system for receiving a user privacy preference that indicates an amount of activity information that the user is willing to share in response to a reward, a value of the reward related to a degree of the user privacy preference. The method and system includes setting a privacy setting for the user based on the received user privacy preference. The method and system further includes tracking web browsing activity of the user during one or more web-browsing sessions based on the privacy setting to generate user activity information. The method and system further includes sending the user activity information and providing a reward to the user based on the user activity information sent.

Abstract: Disclosed are a method for controlling a terminal device, a terminal device and an electronic device. The method comprises: acquiring a first input; determining, in the locked state, a first instruction of the first instruction set corresponding to the first input, the first instruction being an unlocking instruction; controlling a switching from the locked state to the unlocked state according to the unlocking instruction; determining, in the unlocked state, a second instruction of the second instruction set corresponding to the first input; and responding to the second instruction. With the present invention, user operations are simplified, and intelligence of the terminal device is improved.

Abstract: A single page multi-tier catalog browser interface page is presented in a view formatted in response to a selection of a primary filter. The view displays a graduated element for selecting a primary filter value, and a matrix of secondary filter Yes or No indicators, each associated with the graduated element primary filter values, the Yes indicators aligned with the primary and secondary filter values that match within at least one record in a catalog. Selection of a graduated element value causes aligned Yes matrix indicators to be presented as selectable first-click icons in the interface page. Selection of a first-click icon expands it into a tertiary sub-window within the interface page, wherein selection thereof effects a layered primary-secondary-tertiary value searching of the catalog. Each of the above is achieved without navigating the user away from the single interface page.

Abstract: A system and method for digital object categorization or retrieval are provided. The method includes providing for a selector to be graphically presented to a user. The selector is variably adjustable within a range, by the user, to adjust a level of noise in at least one of digital object categorization and digital object retrieval. The range of the selector is normalized over a set of digital object categories based on scores output by a trained categorizer for each of a set of labeled test objects for each of the set of digital object categories and a label for each of the test objects. Selector position information is received by the system and at least one of digital object categorization and digital object retrieval is performed, based on the selector position information. One or more of the method steps may be performed with a computer processor.

Abstract: A bead design allows the bead to be removably attached to a rail, allowing the bead to slide along the rail without coming off. The rail can be part of a bracket system to hang the rail in various desired locations. The beads can be made in various shapes and sizes, or with various textual indicators, to provide a user with a memory aid. A user can, for example, have a bead for each medicine dose they are required to take. A user can slide the bead to one side when the medicine is taken. Each bead can include an indicator, for example, 6 am, 2 pm, 10 pm that indicates a medicine to be taken 3 times a day. The beads can be used for other reminders and can be designed accordingly. A software application can be designed to mimic the bead and rail system.

The graphical user interface includes an analog-style selection control that allows a user to select at least one characteristic of a feature of the article. With this type of selection control, a consumer need not select a particular control value or designate a combination of control values to choose a characteristic for a feature of an article to be custom-manufactured. Instead, the consumer need only select a position or value relative to a range of positions or values provided by the analog-style selection control.

Abstract: Some embodiments provide a novel user interface (UI) tool that is a unified slider control, which includes multiple sliders that slide along a region. The region is a straight line in some embodiments, while it is an angular arc in other embodiments. In some embodiments, the unified slider control is used in a media editing application to allow a user to modify several different properties of the image by moving several different sliders along the region. Each slider is associated with a property of the image. A position of the slider in the region corresponds to a value of the property associated with the slider.

Abstract: Some embodiments provide a method of presenting several user interface (UI) controls for editing images. Upon receiving a selection of an image to edit, the method displays the image in a display area for displaying edits to the image. At a first location, the method receives input to activate a UI tool includes the several UI tools. In response to the input, the method displays, at a second location, a fanning animation that fans the several UI controls from a fanned closed layout to a fanned open layout.

Abstract: Controlling methods for handheld devices with a touch display unit are provided. The controlling method includes the steps of: detecting a sliding gesture on the touch display unit when the handheld device is locked; in response to the detected sliding gesture, displaying at least one indication data on the touch display unit, wherein the indication data includes an indication object and the indication object rotates/flips around a central axis of the touch display unit and a rotating/flipping status of the indication object indicates an unlocking status in response to a detected contact position corresponding to the sliding gesture; and determining whether to unlock the handheld device according to the rotating/flipping status of the indication object.

Abstract: A system and method for adjusting a notification setting of a handheld electronic device is provided. The method includes receiving a request to adjust a notification setting which causes the electronic device to display a notification module on a display of the electronic device. The notification module includes a plurality of control portions each corresponding to a notification setting which can be adjusted within the corresponding control portion. The method further includes detecting a selection proximate to a control portion and inputting a notification setting change based upon a selection executed within one of the control portions. The notification setting is adjusted in response to the notification setting change.

Abstract: A device with a touch-sensitive display may be unlocked via gestures performed on the touch-sensitive display. The device is unlocked if contact with the display corresponds to a predefined gesture for unlocking the device. The device displays one or more unlock images with respect to which the predefined gesture is to be performed in order to unlock the device. The performance of the predefined gesture with respect to the unlock image may include moving the unlock image to a predefined location and/or moving the unlock image along a predefined path. The system includes an electronic device that enables a user to provide content using one or more sliders. In response to detecting an input that selects a respective subunit region, the multifunction device updates the content area in accordance with the respective selected subunit region. The method of controlling an operation of a mobile terminal includes displaying a file list and scroll arrows for scrolling the file list on a touch screen. When the scroll arrow is touched and entered, the file list is scrolled at a scroll speed previously set in response to a time when the scroll arrow is touched and entered. A vibration signal to identify at least one of a scroll speed and a current scrolling position of the file list is provided. Abstract: A method of displaying email messages to a user is provided. Spam classification information and meta data is associated with email messages received for a user. Email message summary information is displayed in a user interface based on whether the meta data associated with the message meets or exceeds a threshold display level for the summary information. The user provides input via the user interface which is an indication to change the threshold display level and the change is dynamically displayed.

Abstract: A system and a method are disclosed for effectively displaying database records on a device having a display area that is small compared to the underlying data being represented. A simulated catalogue is displayed with cards associated with database records. Detailed information is presented for a record on a card obscuring information related to other records. A user is allowed to swipe on the catalogue causing simulated movement of the cards thereby displaying information associated with a database record previously obscured. The catalogue is moved with an initial velocity determined by the speed of swiping and decelerated based on a drag factor until it comes to a stop and displays information for the record reached. The ability to determine the final record displayed when the catalogue stops allows pre-fetching of the data associated with the record.

The GUI includes a contiguous two-dimensional sliding region for defining several values. The GUI also includes several sliders for moving within the sliding region. The selected values are parameters for controlling one or more operations of the application.

Abstract: Tools and techniques allow visual media to be edited by superimposing a parameter adjusting mechanism on the visual media itself and adjusting parameter settings based on user input detected by the parameter adjusting mechanism. In a visual media editing application, the parameter adjusting mechanism is superimposed on visual media so that the user can keep his eyes on the visual media and so that the visual media itself is not obscured by other user interface controls and windows as the user edits it. The user sets control points on the visual media that act as a fixed reference points for subsequent user input. The parameter adjusting mechanism detects subsequent user input calculates new parameter settings based on that input.

Abstract: A method of designing and/or selecting a progressive addition lens design for a wearer is disclosed. In an embodiment, the method includes displaying a graphical representation of an initial progressive addition lens design including design parameters having design values. A user interface is provided including, for each of one or more of the design parameters, a control that is adjustable over a range of levels, each level in the range being associated with a corresponding value of the respective design parameter. A control is adjusted to select a level and the selection is processed so as to substantially simultaneously update the displayed graphical representation in accordance with the selected level to provide a modified progressive lens design. Abstract: A system and method for automatically, programmatically generating media item recommendations on a graphical user interface (GUI) based on a friend media item recommendation selected by a user. In the preferred embodiment, a selected media item recommendation is displayed in the GUI. Received friend media item recommendations are displayed in a list in relevance order adjacent to the selected media item. A programmatically-generated media item recommendation list is automatically generated based on relevance to the selected media item and displayed in another adjacent area to the selected media item recommendation. In this manner, a user can easily play the selected media item recommendation, and then browse the friend media item recommendations and the automatically updated programmatically-generated media item recommendations, which are both provided in their own respective adjacent areas, in order of closest relationship to the selected media item recommendation, at anytime.

The mapping may be implemented based on a number of setting values associated with the setting control and a size of a specified edge of the user interface. Additionally, multiple edges of a user interface may be mapped to a variety of setting controls. The edge-mapped setting controls may also be automatically reconfigured according to user preferences and interaction with the interface. Indicators are also generated to provide visual indications about the setting controls and/or a current setting. The appearance of indicators may be altered to convey a variety of information such as the current setting of a control or the type of setting control.

Abstract: Methods and software tools are described for allowing users to navigate through a time schedule quickly and easily. The time schedule interface facilitates a user viewing multiple time periods on an information schedule on a client device quickly without having to completely remake or redraw the entire interface. A user of a computer or similar device is presented with a time schedule interface. This schedule interface may resemble a schedule such as program guide or a train schedule. The schedule typically is composed of a grid or blocks of information defined by two parameters. One parameter is almost always time, while the other parameter depends on the type of schedule. The interface in this invention includes a moveable virtual slider. The slider rests on or is attached to a time scale axis. This time scale axis may be implemented as a horizontal or vertical bar and in addition may contain markings corresponding to time intervals much like a ruler.

Abstract: A volume setting icon is provided with a slider for indicating a volume increasing from left toward right. A region in a direction of lower volume relative to a position corresponding to a current value, at which the slider is displayed, is identified as a volume low region, and a region in a direction of higher volume is identified as a volume high region. When the slider is selected, the slider can continuously be operated to move in any direction toward the volume low region and the volume high region. When the volume low region other than the slider is touched, the slider is instantaneously operated to move to a position corresponding to a touch position. When the volume high region other than the slider is touched, the slider is not instantaneously operated to move to a position corresponding to a touch position.

Abstract: Context based menus are employed for content attribute adjustment through touch or gesture actions, keyboard entries, mouse or pen actions, and similar input. Context based menus are deployed to adjust displayed attributes of content. In some examples, a slider enables the user to visually confirm selected attribute such as a font size. Other content attributes may be adjusted using context based attribute menus providing granular adjustment for incremental attribute values. Attributes including line weights and gradient based values are adjustable through context based attribute menus.

Abstract: A system and method for manipulating computer data using a new GUI element is disclosed. In a particular embodiment, the new GUI element is a composite of a traditional GUI button control and a traditional GUI slider control. In one embodiment, a composite slidable button control appears and functions similar to a traditional button control on the GUI. Dragging the composite control past its predetermined anchor distance un-anchors the composite control allowing it to travel similar to a traditional slider control, optionally constrained in direction(s) and distance(s) by predetermined settings. During the slider adjustment phase, the composite control can optionally overlap other GUI elements realizing a more compact and efficient GUI appearance. In another embodiment, a composite clickable slider control appears and functions similar to a traditional slider control on the GUI.

Abstract: Selections from a long list of elements on a Graphical User Interface (GUI) are presented. When a context window is presented for the selections, different cues are provided in the context window to provide feedback regarding the selections that are not in the current view, and to also facilitate rapid navigation to those selections on the GUI. Interaction with the GUI widgets within the context window, and interaction with the context window itself, facilitates the navigation toward the other selections that are not in the current view. Interaction with the GUI widgets also facilitates the preview of the selections that are not in the current view, thus making it easier to determine what has been selected without having to navigate to the view that contains those selections.

Abstract: Systems and methods are disclosed for displaying notifications received from multiple applications. In some embodiments, an electronic device can monitor notifications that are received from the multiple applications. Responsive to receiving the notifications, the electronic device can control the manner in which the notifications are displayed while the device is operating in a locked or an unlocked state. In some embodiments, the electronic device can allow users to customize how notifications are to be displayed while the device is in the locked and/or unlocked states.

Abstract: Methods, systems and computer program products for displaying tag words for selection by users engaged in social tagging of content accessible via a communications network, are provided. A tag cloud, tag word inventory curve and slider control are displayed within a graphical user interface. The tag cloud is a visual representation of an inventory of tag words. The tag word inventory curve is a graphical representation of the words in the inventory by frequency of usage by others. The slider control is responsive to user movement, and is movable within a range that spans the length of the tag word inventory curve. Movement of the slider control changes the number of tag words from the inventory displayed in the tag cloud according to frequency of usage by others.

Abstract: The embodiments of the present invention provide novel techniques for visualizing parameter values, such as parameter values measured in an industrial measurement process. In particular, the disclosed embodiments provide visualization techniques for re-scaling a representation of a target parameter range with respect to an overall parameter range for a parameter value. Re-scaling the representation of the target parameter range effectively provides continuous dynamic zooming for the measured parameter value. This allows for better visualization as well as providing continuous feedback to an operator of the industrial measurement process regarding the current measured parameter value, thereby facilitating faster and more accurate operation of the industrial measurement process.

Methods and apparatuses are provided for activating an element of an electronic document. In one implementation, a method includes activating the element selected by a touch gesture. Methods and apparatuses are provided for controlling a perceived brightness of an electronic document. In one implementation, a method includes displaying a partially opaque graphical object in front of the electronic document. The perceived brightness of the electronic document being based on an opacity of the graphical object.

Abstract: To allow users to compensate for different and dynamically changing lighting conditions, the present invention introduces a graphical user interface shading system. The graphical user interface shading system provides a very simple intuitive interface to the user. In one embodiment, the user is presented with an adjustable user interface widget such as a slider that allows the user to select any shading setting along a shading continuum. The graphical user interface shading system reacts to the users control by adjusting a number of different graphical user interface elements in response to the new shading setting. In one embodiment, the graphical user interface shading system adjusts singled colored areas with a linear interpolation, text with a font color selection, icons with an icon bitmap selection, textured areas with a texture blend, and decals with a decal blend.
