Abstract: A display apparatus and a control method are provided in which a size menu item is changed, when the menu item is directed by a user. A display apparatus includes a user input part; a menu generator generating a user menu including at least one or more items; a display part displayed with the user menu generated from the menu generator; and a controller controlling the menu generator so that a size of a directed item according to an operation of the user input part among the items of the user menu displayed at the display part is reduced into a predetermined size and then is returned to an original size.

Abstract: A system and method for displaying a set of hierarchical menu items is disclosed. Each menu item may be associated with at least one sub-item and/or with content data. Each sub-item may be associated with content data for display upon selection of the sub-item. The system simultaneously displays each menu item in a list format. Upon selection of one of the menu items, the system displays each sub-item associated with the selected menu item. For any selected sub-item, the system displays the display data associated with the selected sub-item and stores data indicating that the selected sub-item is the most recently-selected sub-item associated with the selected menu item. When any menu item is selected, the system determines the most recently-selected sub-item (if any) associated with the selected menu item and displays the display data associated with the most recently-selected sub-item.

Abstract: An outwardly expandable radial menu, such as a plus-shaped menu, may be launched in a user interface screen and may include a center option and up to four other options arranged to the left, right, upward, and downward relative to the center option. The position of each of the options may be associated with certain option categories. A traditional selectable menu, such as drop down menu, may be appended to the plus-shaped menu. A determination may be made regarding whether a portion of the plus-shaped menu will exceed a display boundary of the user interface screen. A placeholder may be displayed in place of the portion that is determined to exceed the display boundary. In response to user navigation to the placeholder, the plus-shaped menu may be shifted so that the portion replaced by the placeholder may be displayed.

Abstract: One embodiment provides a method and apparatus for an object oriented on-screen display menu system with a visual cue. The method includes the identification of an on-screen visual cue that is generated by an access device such as, for example, a digital television system. The on-screen visual cue display may also be generated by an access device, such as a set-top box, in response to a remote control command. Once detected, the on-screen visual display may be used to identify an object of focus within the on-screen display in response to a menu selection event. In one embodiment, the remote control command is issued to the access device prior to a menu selection event. By using a visual cue to identify an object of focus, a context-dependent sub-menu is provided that corresponds to the identified object of focus to simplify user menu access. Other embodiments are described and claimed.

Abstract: A commitment-based GUI is provided. In one example embodiment, a system to provide commitment-based GUI comprises a menu activation module, an actions monitor, a commitment detector, and a presentation control module. The menu activation module may be configured to activate a multi-panel media interface on a display device, the multi-panel media interface presenting one or more menu panels. The actions monitor may be configured to monitor activity of a user with respect to the multi-panel media interface. The commitment detector may be configured to determine a commitment level of the user, the commitment level indicating the user's interest level in navigating a menu structure associated with the multi-panel media interface. The presentation control module may be configured to adjust presentation of the multi-panel media interface based on the determined commitment level.

Abstract: A menu display device includes a display unit that displays a plurality of menu options side by side on a display screen, a storage unit that stores the menu options and operational commands for specifying operations corresponding to the menu options, and a control unit that displays the menu options and displays the operational commands adjacent to the menu options, the operational commands controlling display of the menu options. The control unit moves a mark that indicates a selectable state between the menu options or the operational commands in response to an amount of operation of an operation unit, and when the mark moves to the operational commands, the control unit displays new menu options on the display screen in response to the operational commands.

Abstract: A system and method for simplifying operations of an electronic device sets a first duration that a cursor is allowed to stay on each root menu option which has sub-menu options, and sets a second duration that the cursor is allowed to stay on each leaf menu option which has no sub-menu options. If the cursor stays on a root menu option beyond the first duration, the system and method controls the electronic device automatically to enter a lower hierarchy menu interface corresponding to the root menu option. If the cursor stays on a leaf menu option beyond the second duration, the system and method controls the electronic device to directly return to a main menu interface from the leaf menu option.

Responsive to user input, a graphical component representing a first system object is dropped onto a graphical component representing a query function. A set of attributes of the first system object is presented. Responsive to user selection, a search query is created from the selected set of attributes.

Abstract: A graphical user interface for a display devised for presentation of hierarchical information includes a first menu field carrying a list of menu items, at least one of the menu items indicating a submenu field which is expandable within the first menu field. A graphical layer effect is applied to an expanded submenu field such that the submenu field is displayed as an underlying layer to the first menu field.

Abstract: User interface systems and methods are disclosed. The user interfaces include at least one focus pointer that allow a user to quickly access the elements contained in a plurality of folders. A fixed focus pointer selects one of a plurality of elements of a main folder in response to interaction of a user. A moveable focus pointer scrolls through a plurality of elements of the first subfolder to select a second subfolder in response to interaction of a user. The user interface may include additional folders and focus pointers.

Abstract: A user interface of a machine tool includes a display that is divided into at least a first display region and a second display region. The first display region permanently displays a main menu, and the main menu includes a menu bar that provides a selection of different main modes of the user interface. Each main mode is associated with a main window that is opened in the second display region when a main mode is selected in the main menu. At least one of the main windows includes a permanently displayed submenu that provides selection of different submodes, with each submode being associated with a subwindow that is opened when an associated submode is selected. One or more of the main windows and the subwindows include input fields. The user interface also includes an input unit for selecting the individual modes and for processing the input fields provided in a window. The display permanently displays which one of the main modes is selected.

Abstract: A mechanism for displaying web pages to a user, receives an HTML code of the web page to be displayed, and interprets the HTML code. The mechanism interprets a computer program code embedded in the HTML code of the web page to be displayed. The embedded code includes an indication of at least one menu option to be displayed upon request of the user. Responsive to a command from the user, a pop-up menu containing the at least one menu option is displayed to the user.

Abstract: A method for operating a map-based menu interface for a mobile electronic device is provided. In the present method, a map-based menu interface divided into one first type area and n second type areas is provided first, n is a positive integer. At least one function group item is comprised in the first type area, and each of the function group items corresponds to one of the second type areas. Then, a visible region only displaying the first type area is defined. After selecting one of the function group items, the visible region is moved to fully display the second type area corresponding to the selected function group item. As a result, a diverse and interesting manner to operate the menu interface is provided to increase the user experience of the mobile electronic device.

Abstract: A user support device which accurately judges that a user is in a confused state and supports the user is provided. The user support device includes: a confused state judging unit (107) which judges whether the user is in a confused state or not based on a tendency of variation in dwell time on which a decision making time until a next input action is executed is reflected in a sequence of input actions executed by the user who makes transitions between several menus arranged in a tree structure; and an operation support processing unit (109) which provides operation support when the confused state judging unit (107) makes a positive judgment that the user is in a confused state.

Abstract: Various types of data can be collected into a data set and related content and/or related concepts across the data in the data set and/or across search histories can be displayed as a visual representation. The related content/concepts can be presented as a function of incremental revealing of relationships. After reviewing the visual representation, a user can customize the data set and relationships by specifically excluding a related data segment. The visual representation can be applied across multiple searches or other obtained data. Through interaction with the visual representation, a user can drill down into common linkages of the data to more narrowly focus on a subset of the data and/or to refocus a search result and/or to provide annotations.

Abstract: Candidate tree structures, each of which includes a current tree structure and a respective node defining a respective relative location on the selected page for another graphic object selected from a set, are generated. Initial size dimensions are determined for the graphic objects in each of the candidate tree structures. Respective scores are computed for the candidate tree structures based at least in part on the corresponding initial size dimensions. One of the candidate tree structures is selected as the current tree structure based on the computed scores. The process is repeated until relative locations on the page are defined for all of the graphic objects in the set. Next, final size dimensions are calculated for the graphic objects in accordance with the current tree structure. Respective positions of the graphic objects on the selected page are specified in accordance with the current tree structure.

The method comprises the steps of selecting a function menu, and drawing a display layer of the function menu and a display layer of each function item in the function menu on a display frame of a display; selecting a function item from the current function menu; only drawing the display layer of the selected function item and removing the display layers of the unselected ones; and when the selected function item further includes another function menu, drawing a display layer of each function item in the function menu.

Abstract: Embodiments of techniques for providing a supplier build status visibility tool are disclosed. In one embodiment, a technique for providing a supplier build status visibility manager includes receiving build data from a supplier, where the build data includes a supplier element having a task and a task date. The build data may be associated with a project hierarchy tree of a plurality of elements organized under one or more projects to create project hierarchy build data. A preliminary supplier report may be generated for the supplier element in the project hierarchy build data and transmitted to the supplier for review during a quarantine period. Finally, a supplier build status visibility manager may be updated with the project hierarchy build data upon termination of the quarantine period.

Abstract: Aspects of the present invention provide context menus useful in, e.g., a computing device receiving user input via a stylus. Icons representing actions performable on an object are displayed in a context menu for the object. Additional aspects of the invention include cascading menus that also minimize hand and/or wrist motion, as well as placement of menus based on user handedness and/or stylus orientation.

Abstract: Some embodiments of the invention are directed to, among other things, systems, computer readable media, methods and any other means for navigating a menu hierarchy of a handheld electrical device and/or options within a menu display. The device can present each display on, e.g., an integrated display screen. In response to the device being physically moved, circuitry of the device can receive acceleration data generated by one or more accelerometers. The circuitry can be configured to respond to the acceleration data by generating an acceleration vector, storing the data and/or presenting another display. The new display can be, for example, another menu in the menu hierarchy or the same menu with a different option highlighted.

A device is disclosed which comprises hardware and a graphical user interface (GUI) for user interaction. The device also comprises software implementing an interactive questionnaire for graphically presenting health related symptoms and problems to a user and registering the user's response via the GUI, as well as software implementing a report generator for generating a report that maps health related symptoms and problems based on the response from the user.

Abstract: At least one additional menu layer can be selected in a menu layer and be displayed on a display unit by means of at least one control element. The additional menu layer selected via the control element is displayed in the display unit as a preview when an object approaches the control element that is equipped with a proximity sensor or when an object touches the control element that is fitted with a tactile sensor. The additional menu layer disappears again when the object, e.g. a person's finger, is removed, and the originally represented menu layer is automatically displayed again. This prevents the control elements from being repeatedly actuated, thus significantly increasing user friendliness and improving customer acceptance.

According to a system, a word processing application program receives a selection of a document part category. The gallery of document parts defines a page layout for the electronic document. Document parts may be created within the user interface by modifying pre-built document parts.

Abstract: A method displays a multitude of objects on a display, the display offering an electronic pointer device. A maximum number of objects to be displayed in an adaptable orientation at a time is determined. The multitude of objects are automatically grouped into at least one group containing at most the maximum number of said objects. The groups are listed in a first list. The objects grouped into the group are automatically displayed in a second list upon the electronic pointer device pointing to the group. Furthermore, a display used for the described method is described, as well as a computer system, a maintenance management system and a mobile phone using the described method and display.

Abstract: A method and computer system for processing log file data, as well as to a graphical user interface for presenting the processed log file data is disclosed. Embodiments provide convenient mechanisms for processing log file data to generate a hierarchical representation of the log file data which more clearly indicates relationships between functions and information about one or more functions, where the log file data is processed in accordance with tag information associated with the application. The processed log file data may then be used to render a graphical user interface which displays the structured log file data. Nodes associated with nested functions may be indented with respect to parent nodes to indicate the nested relationship between functions. Additionally, the nodes may be expanded or collapsed to more clearly display the relationship between functions, to vary the amount of information displayed, etc.

In the first display process, a plurality of items each including hiragana of Japanese alphabet, are displayed on a full screen liquid display touch panel. The first portion of the first screen area includes an interface for a user to select either a group of users from a data store or a type of data to be published and the selection is displayed in the first screen area. A third screen portion displays selected members from the second screen area. Abstract: The present specification provides, amongst other things, a method and system for navigating content. In an embodiment a portable electronic device is provided having a browser application and a native menu application. The embodiment also includes a network that interconnects a web-server and said portable electronic device. The web-server hosts web pages that include menus and content. The portable electronic device is configured to obtain a schema respective to the web-pages whereby the web-page menus can be generated on the portable electronic device using the native menu application rather than the browser application, thereby permitting navigation of content on the portable electronic device via the native menu application.

Abstract: The invention relates to a method for graphical presentation of objects and/or technical processes on a screen as well as to a system for implementing the method. In some cases different views may be frequently selected, and these views may be presented in different display windows. To edit the totality of views or subsequently look at them, a frequent change of view may be required. Such changes of view may be cumbersome and tedious and take time. To resolve this problem, the display area (3) is equipped with a least one element, (4) which can be activated by an input device (5). Activating the element (4) expands or contracts the contents of the display area (3) by a graphical object (6). In this way a frequent change of view is avoided, which provides ergonomic benefits to a user working with the graphics.

Abstract: An editor application highlights a user's original selection of text. The editor application additionally identifies whether the user's selection of text includes a portion of tagged content. If so, the editor application provides a visual indication of a remainder portion of the tagged content that is not included as part of the user's selection of text. That is, the editor application provides a first visual indication (e.g., a first color of highlighting) of the original text selected by the user and a second visual indication (e.g., a second color of highlighting) of a portion of the tagged content displayed outside of originally selected text. Consequently, the user can easily identify a first region of text originally selected by the user as well as a remainder portion of the tagged content in a second region exclusive with respect to the originally selected text.

Abstract: Systems and methods for generating a selection representation for items in a tree structure using an include modifier and an exclude modifier. The method exemplarily includes analyzing a parent node of the tree structure to determine if the parent node is an inclusive selection, including a path of the parent node in the selection representation if the parent node is an inclusive selection, analyzing a first child node of the parent node to determine if the first child node is a different selection type than the parent node, and including a path of the first child node if the first child node is a different selection type than the parent node.

Abstract: A computer program provides a first set of representations (e.g., textual representations) of a first set of hyperlinks. In response to selection by a user of one of the first set of hyperlink representations (such as by clicking on or hovering a cursor over the representation), the program displays a second set of representations (e.g., graphical representations) of a second set of hyperlinks. The user may select one of the second set of representations, in response to which the program navigates to the destination of the hyperlink. The second set of representations may, for example, be logos of companies, and the second set of hyperlinks may be hyperlinks to the companies' web sites.
