Abstract: The present invention provides ways for application programs to allow users to dynamically update data that is presented in a GUI element. In one aspect of the present invention, a method is provided that receives a command when a GUI element is displayed for the purpose of updating one or more data item(s) presented in the GUI element. In response to receiving the command, the method causes the updated data to be obtained from the user and stored in a database. Then the GUI element is “refreshed” so that the updated data is available in the GUI element for selection by the user.

Abstract: A user interface display provides selectable icons and a control symbol in a toolbar. The control symbol can be selected by a user to display additional selectable icons within the toolbar. The additional icons can be inserted adjacent the control symbol or in another location on the toolbar. A user can associate a set of one or more selectable icons with a control symbol. In one implementation, reselecting the control symbol removes the additional icons from the toolbar. In another implementation, the additional icons are removed when one of the additional icons is selected. If the icons are positioned adjacent to their corresponding control symbol, the display position of other icons on the toolbar is adjusted to allow room for the additional icons. When a set of the additional icons is removed from the display, the position of the other icons on the toolbar is re-adjusted.

In response to receiving a request from the user to toggle the user interface between a user interface containing an original pull down menu and a user interface containing a modified pull down menu, the user interface is presented with the first pull down menu wherein the first pull down menu is the modified pull down menu. A user request associated with a feature presented in the first pull down menu is monitored. Values associated with requests received from a user are stored in a set of usage information. The first pull down menu is modified using the set of usage information to form a second pull down menu. The user interface containing the second pull down menu is presented to the user.

Abstract: This disclosure describes a system in which individual employee records can be updated across multiple services by an administrator at the interface to a particular service. Multiple services may be provided with this capability. This will eliminate the need in the current art for a central directory that contains a service description that will be common across all services. The technology eliminates the need for the development of this directory and the training of administrators in its interface. Administrators may utilize their training in one service interface to update records across multiple services. This will enable the more rapid development of solutions utilizing services from multiple vendors. Administrators need not be trained on interfaces for all services but can apply routine global updates from a convenient and familiar interface.

A client component of the browser analyzes the home page of the web site for all the sub-links present on the page. These links are analyzed, validated, resolved, and structured together before presenting to the user. It presents only live links and the site map in a structured format to the user. The user can see the list of available live pages in the browser's address bar drop-down menu with the anchored text.

Drop-down menu items are particularly useful for assisting a user with assigning information synchronized into a target database from one database system, such as an Outlook file, to objects in the target database system, such as a multi-tenant database system as well as providing suggestions to the user from search results when they may want to choose one of those results or perform a different action altogether.

Abstract: A method is provided for displaying a graphical user interface to a user. The graphical user interface includes a perspective, which is an arrangement of areas, each area containing at least one portlet which presents one aspect of stored information. The graphical user interface allows a user to easily switch between different perspectives, each perspective presenting a different layout of areas. Within each area, different portlets can be made visible using tabs to switch between the portlets. A new portlet can also be created within an area, as long as that type of portlet is allowed in that particular area. The invention allows a user to easily manage the view of many pieces of information without the clutter usually associated with many windows.

According to certain embodiments of the present invention, users are required to adequately respond to the interactive advertisement in order to access certain website content. The user responses to the interactive advertisements are collected and utilized to generate marketing reports which illustrate the effectiveness of an interactive advertisement in conveying an advertiser's message.

Abstract: A technique for establishing an IPv6 address for a network device involves displaying a prefix field for accessing a list of IPv6 address prefixes, an interface identifier field for accessing a list of interface identifiers, and a fillable address field for entering an IPv6 address. An IPv6 address is constructed in the address field from an IPv6 address prefix selected from the prefix field and an interface identifier selected from the interface identifier field. The IPv6 address can be modified by manually entering characters via a user interface. A technique for displaying IPv6 addresses involves combining a mnemonic, which replaces the digits of the IPv6 address prefix portion of the address, together with the digits of the interface identifier of the IPv6 address. IPv6 addresses not associated with a mnemonic are readily identifiable.

Abstract: Methods and systems for providing knowledge access in a process control system and methods and systems for providing dynamic hyperlinks in a process control system are disclosed. A dynamic hyperlink may define an association between a process control object corresponding to a process control element and a knowledge object corresponding to a knowledge reference stored internally or externally to the process control system. At a run-time of a display view that includes the process control object, the defined dynamic hyperlink may be established without a configuration or a download. Upon selection of the defined dynamic hyperlink, the corresponding knowledge reference may be displayed. Defined dynamic hyperlinks may be stored in a process control system database independent of process control objects or knowledge objects. Embodiments of user interfaces for administrating dynamic hyperlinks are also disclosed.

Abstract: A context sensitive searching front-end is disclosed for use in a deposition or trial proceeding wherein a computer aided transcription terminal provides real-time transcribed text down-line to attorney terminals. The terminals may thereafter use the transcribed text and any other text currently being displayed to formulate searches with little or no typing interaction required. Other text which may be used as a basis for searching includes communications from other attorney terminals, from artificial intelligence objection messages, and personal notes. Searching may be conducted on natural language or boolean front-ends which provide virtually instant feed-back as to the value of a search formulation before and after any “searching” actually occurs. Graphing of search results, including individual search word contribution, is provided for modification and selection of the documents to be reviewed.

Abstract: Methods for generating an embedded target image to be stored in a non-volatile memory device of an embedded system as firmware thereof are disclosed. A graphical user interface (GUI) editor is generated to facilitate a user in providing settings information for multiple pins of a chip installed in the embedded system. Source code is generated in response to operating results of the user of the GUI editor. Linking an object file compiled from the generated source code generates the embedded target image.

In one set of embodiments, a first UI control component can be provided that comprises an ordered group of drop-down menus. Each drop-down menu in the ordered group can be populated with a selectable list of attributes from a data set and can be associated with a level in a data hierarchy. By selecting values using the various drop-down menus, a user can interactively specify a data hierarchy for the data set. The data set can then be visualized according to the specified hierarchy. In further embodiments, a second UI control component can be provided in addition to the first UI control component. The second UI control component can allow a user to interactively enable or disable certain drop-down menus in the ordered group, thereby acting as a “depth filter” for controlling the depth of the data hierarchy.

Abstract: Methods and apparatus for configuring a product using an array of configuration sets is disclosed. A user enters a size attribute indicating how many different versions of an attribute will be selected. The client device then displays multiple copies of a configuration set thereby allowing the user to select each attribute value independent of the other attribute values selected. Once the user's selections are complete, and all of the configuration rules are satisfied, the product may be built in accordance with the selected configuration parameters.
