Patent number: 6748780Abstract: The present invention is a method for forming sheet material into contoured parts. The invention method includes these steps: A die is fashioned having an outside surface corresponding to the inside surface of the desired part. A plastically deformable sheet of material is clamped to the die so that the material is tangent to the die at a tangent area. A forming path is defined that follows the part's outside surface definition beginning at a point adjacent to the tangent area and tracing around the tangent area in circuits that incrementally offset away from the tangent area until all of the outside surface of the part is traced. A forming tool is then moved along the forming path so that the end of the forming tool presses the sheet material against the die thereby gradually forming the sheet material against the die to produce a finished formed part.Type: GrantFiled: March 13, 2003Date of Patent: June 15, 2004Assignee: D-J Engineering, Inc.Inventor: Clint Allen Luttgeharm

Patent number: 4413485Abstract: A flange forming drill means for drilling a hole through the side of a pipe or the like and forming a hole encircling flange includes a drill rod mountable on a rotating power source with a drill bit at the lower end and associated retractable flange forming members which are extendable down below the edges of a drilled hole by turning an adjustment cone mounted on the drill rod. The adjustment cone is enclosed and keyed to an externally smooth, protective shield selectively securable to a locking ring on the drill at a plurality of relative angular positions around the drilling axis.Type: GrantFiled: September 24, 1981Date of Patent: November 8, 1983Assignee: G. Patent number: 4299107Abstract: The invention relates to a device for forming a collar around a hole in the wall of a pipe. The device comprises a rotary body (8) which in a plane perpendicular to the rotary shaft is elliptical in cross-section and in the plane of the rotary shaft substantially circular in cross-section. The body is provided with curved support surfaces (12) located in the plane of the rotary shaft, collaring means (14) being movable along said surfaces from an inserting position adjacent to the rotary shaft to a collaring position in a point on the body with the biggest elliptical cross-section.Type: GrantFiled: October 3, 1979Date of Patent: November 10, 1981Assignee: G. Patent number: 4200971Abstract: A method of manufacturing a cup-shaped coil assembly is described which employs a coil bobbin of a special design. The bobbin comprises a cylindrical member, a disc connected with one end of the cylindrical member to close it, a cap member detachably fitted into an opening in the other end of the cylindrical member, and a shaft disposed in alignment with the axis of the cylindrical member and having its one end attached to the disc and its other end slidably extending through the cap member. The method comprises the steps of assembling a coil bobbin in the manner mentioned above, and forming a coil around the bobbin by a skewed winding of wire, pressing the cap member into the cylindrical member, diametrically enlarging an opening formed at one end of the coil, and removing the cap member from the coil formed.Type: GrantFiled: May 16, 1978Date of Patent: May 6, 1980Assignee: Shinano Kenshi Co., Ltd.Inventors: Makoto Shimizu, Kunikazu Shirakawa

Patent number: 3939718Abstract: Improved mechanism to convert rotary motion to transverse motion comprises a disc journalled to rotate about its axis and provided eccentrically with a journal, a trunnion provided with a journal, a trunnionway supporting the trunnion for transverse movement of the trunnion within the trunnion-way in opposite directions normal to such axis, and a shaft journalled to rotate within the journal provided in the disc. One end of the shaft is provided eccentrically with an axially extending pin journalled to rotate within the journal provided in the trunnion. Thereby, the pin is displaced transversely as the disc is rotated about its axis.Type: GrantFiled: May 30, 1974Date of Patent: February 24, 1976Assignee: Chemetron CorporationInventor: James W. Banks
