  • Patent number: 7165432
Abstract: A device for changing pairs of work rolls and/or pairs of backup rolls of roll stands, wherein the rolls are each supported in chocks and are movable out or in by a lower back up roll supported on a track and wheels. The work rolls on the drive side of the roll stand can be coupled to a hydraulic piston-cylinder actuator that is dimensioned in is stroke length for the removal or installation distance and can be uncoupled when it has been withdrawn by the required distance. A roll changing frame can be coupled to the actuator and, when the upper backup roll and the roll changing frame are supported on the lower backup roll, the pair of backup rolls can be moved out or back in. The actuator is coupled to a pusher with connecting arms aligned with ends of the rolls. The actuator is arranged on the drive side of the roll stand and is coupled to the pusher through a piston rod.

  • Patent number: 5657529
Abstract: In a production line both the base frame and also the working area is subdivided into modular assemblable modules, the base unit having three reception positions which can be provided with slide-in working units and receptacles for driving units and a trolley transferring the particular working unit. The working unit, after a control console has moved out of the sliding in path, can be moved in and out parallel to the horizontal separating plane and transversely to the conveying direction and can then be adjusted and locked. Thus, with the same base units a randomly long basic frame can be created for randomly succeeding working stations.

  • Patent number: 5613392
Abstract: A horizontal/vertical roll stand with a pair of work rolls which can be exchangeably mounted with chocks and adjusting spindles in the stand includes a housing which is formed by four posts which extend from the corners of a common base plate, wherein the posts have an essentially rectangular cross-section. A cube-shaped receiving space which is open toward the top and at the sides for a cassette-type roll mounting unit is defined by the base plate and the four posts. During the exchange of the rolls, the roll mounting unit can be pulled out as a structural unit from the receiving space of the stand. Pairs of the posts form guides therebetween. A total of four support plates with a center support member each for four adjusting spindles are releasably fastened to the guides. The adjusting spindles have adjusting nuts on right/left thread portions, wherein pairs of adjusting nuts engage with cylindrically shaped projections into chocks of the rolls and adjust the rolls.

  • Patent number: 5600987
Abstract: A rolling mill has a rolling stand having two roll standards for supporting rolls having roll pins at opposite ends of each roll with bearings interposed between the standards and the pins. A chock (10) surrounds each bearing and is releasably secured within a standard. A housing (12) is detachably secured on an outer side of the chock. The housing carries stop elements (14) mounted for movement in a direction parallel to the axis (13--13) of the roll. A first hydraulic jack (16) advances the stop elements toward a midplane (33--33) of the roll and into abutment with the roll, thereby to position the housing correctly along the roll axis. A plurality of clamping elements (21) is spaced apart about an endwise outer part (34) of the roll pin (8). A second hydraulic jack (25) moves the clamping elements into clamping engagement with the outer section (34) of the roll pin (8).

  • Patent number: 5590557
Abstract: A roll stand for a pair of work rolls includes a housing with two side walls arranged on a common base plate. A cube-shaped receiving space which is open toward the top and toward two sides and is provided with guide surfaces for an insertable roll cassette is formed between the side walls. The insertable roll cassette of the roll stand includes two side plates which extend parallel to each other and are spaced at a distance from each other. The outer sides of the side plates are guided by the guide surfaces of the side walls. The side plates form guide means for two pairs of chocks which receive the work rolls with the bearings of the rolls. A pair each of interacting chocks are connected by means of adjusting spindles which absorb rolling forces, wherein the distance between chocks is adjustable so as to produce pre-adjustable passes. The adjusting spindles include adjusting collars and the side plates have adjusting pieces which are compatible with the adjusting collars.
