Abstract: A roller guiding system for thin strips (20) at a rolling system outlet which allows a safe guiding without take-off and consequent tipping/folding of the head of the strip and without cobbles even at high feeding speeds. The system of the invention prevents the strip from impacting or sliding on the upper containment devices (8) or on the rollers (4?) by its upwards or downwards movement, thus avoiding possible damages to the surface, such as scratches or lines. Furthermore, such a guiding system acts on the mechanical-aerodynamic phenomenon which causes instability in the head moving by making a self-centering guiding system which is thus suitable for improving the winding quality of the coil itself.

Abstract: A bar speed changing device (48) comprising a pair of upper rollers (55, 55?) and a pair of lower rollers (59, 59?). Said device receives a bar section with the rollers (55, 55?, 59, 59?) in the open position and rotating at a given speed. Upon leaving the device (48) said sections are fed into axially arranged peripheral seats (58) of rotating drum channels. Control devices calculate the speed at which the bar section must be released, upon completion of the braking action, according to the position that said section must occupy in one of said seats and on the basis of the bar-seat friction coefficient. When the rollers (55, 55?, 59, 59?) receive the bar, they turn at the calculated release speed. At a predefined moment, such to enable braking in the correct space and time, the four rollers close on the section and exert the braking action, exploiting the dynamic friction between the roller-section.

The flatness measuring roll (13) is displaced out of a working position, in which the hot strip is guided around the flatness measuring roll (13) while maintaining an approximately constant contact angle ?, and into a lowered position. In addition, a strip guide (14), which can swivel inward and protects the flatness measuring roll (13), is placed inside the coiler shaft.

Abstract: A method and apparatus is disclosed for decelerating and temporarily accumulating a hot rolled product moving longitudinally along a receiving axis at a first velocity V1. The product is directed through a curved guide having an entry end aligned with the receiving axis to receive the product, and an exit end spaced radially from the receiving axis and oriented to deliver the product in an exit direction transverse to the receiving axis. The curved guide is rotated about the receiving axis in a direction opposite to the exit direction of the product and at a speed at which the guide exit end has a velocity V2, thereby decelerating the product being delivered from the guide exit end to a reduced velocity V3 equal to V1-V2. The curvature of the guide and the orientation of its exit end is such as to form the delivered product into a helix deposited and temporarily accumulated on a cylindrical drum.

Abstract: A guide for a high speed steel rolling mill comprises two rolling members, between which the work product passes mounted for rotation on a base member. Each roller has a frusto-conically shaped bearing recess formed therein and each guide roller is mounted on a mating, frusto-conically shaped projection which protrudes from the base member. Each of the projections has a central oil duct which serves to feed a lubricating oil under pressure into the frusto-conically shaped space between the roller and its mating projection. The lubricating oil serves to form a film between the stationary projection and the rotating guide roller. Because of the conically shaped mating surface, the lubricating oil tends to “lift” the guide roller from the surface of the supporting base. Each rolling member is provided with a vane structure to permit the rolling member to be prespun by the impingement of a cooling fluid on the vane surface thereof.

This apparatus provides an operation for correcting minor surface irregularities and shape distortion of the rod as it exits from the finishing roll stand. The apparatus consists of four rollers mounted in an assembly which resembles a roller entry guide except that the rollers are capable of producing changes in shape of a work product passing therethrough. The orientation of the roller axis is slowly and constantly changed to prevent wear distortion of the rollers which may result when the rollers are required to roll a malformed product from fixed roller axes. The rollers may be driven in some circumstances.
