Patent number: 4685320Abstract: A method of rolling steel rods or wires by grooveless rolls for reducing sectional areas of the rods or wires and achieving a stable rolling operation with high efficiency by limiting to less than a predetermined value the ratio of a long side to a short side of a cross-section of a blank material (having a rectangular cross-section) which has passed through each pair of grooveless rolls or limiting the ratio of the diameter of each pair of grooveless rolls to the gap therebetween. A right hand screw gear 27 and a left hand screw gear 28 are attached to respective ones of the support shafts 25. A manually operable right hand screw worm 29 and a right hand screw worm 30 which is also manually operable are made to engage with the gears 27, 28, respectively.Type: GrantFiled: January 8, 1979Date of Patent: July 15, 1980Assignee: Kotobuki Sangyo Kabushiki KaishaInventor: Hiroaki Shimada

Patent number: 4205560Abstract: A band press for a moving sheet at the entry end of a rolling mill. The band press comprises upper and lower guide assemblies between which the sheet passes. Each assembly comprises a plurality of press plates which are adjustably mounted with respect to each other in a direction transverse to the direction of travel of the sheet to accommodate sheets of different widths. Means are provided for moving the outer press plates and rack and pinion drive means operatively connect the outer press plates to the remaining press plates.Type: GrantFiled: January 12, 1979Date of Patent: June 3, 1980Assignee: Schloemann-Siemag AGInventor: Johannes Jansen

Patent number: 4202198Abstract: A strip mill entry guide mechanism having upper and lower platens positioned to receive and clamp strip material passing therebetween. One of the platens is driven by a first drive mechanism toward the other platen into clamping engagement with the strip. This first drive mechanism is locked in this clamping position to prevent its forced retraction therefrom while this same driven platen is further driven into heavier clamping engagement with the moving strip with a second drive mechanism disposed between the locked first said drive mechanism and the platen being driven.Type: GrantFiled: October 30, 1978Date of Patent: May 13, 1980Assignee: Mesta Machine CompanyInventor: Andrew J. Patent number: 4184354Abstract: This invention is directed to a system for the transportation and storage of heavy goods of bulky dimensions and, in particular, coiled metal trackway which, during manufacture, is formed in rolls and requires movement between fabricating stations and intermediate storage stations under conditions where high space storage is the preferred arrangement. High space storage areas having narrow sides but not directly interconnected and in abutting arrangement are located in equi-axial fashion along a central longitudinal transportation pathway having low level workshops adjoining this pathway. Also adjoining this central transportation pathway are manufacturing stations which are disposed in transverse relation to the central pathway. Overhead transportation trucks transfer bundles of metal sheets from high space storage to fabricating stations, including rolling mills and cutting machines, for forming the sheets and cutting into the final product in the form of bundles.Type: GrantFiled: October 30, 1978Date of Patent: January 22, 1980Inventors: Helmut Eberlin, Karl R. Patent number: RE31344Abstract: The mill comprises essentially a roughing train having a reversing roughing stand or stands and a finishing train having a reversing finishing stand or in-line finishing stands, the roughing and finishing trains being disposed with pass lines parallel to each other and at different elevations, the work in the roughing train progressing in the opposite direction from the work in the finishing train. The roughing train for strip and light plate is provided with a hot upcoiler at each end positioned above the table so that slabs and breakdowns pass beneath them, but adapted to coil and payout strip of coiling gauge. The delivery end of the roughing train is laterally opposite the entry end of the finishing train and separate mechanisms are provided for transferring coils and plate broadside from roughing train to finishing train.Type: GrantFiled: May 27, 1982Date of Patent: August 16, 1983Assignee: White Consolidated Industries, Inc.Inventor: Werner W.
