Roller Or Roller-like Tool-element Of Particular Configuration Patents (Class 72/252.5)
  • Patent number: 6250125
Abstract: A method of producing an iron-based dispersion-strengthened alloy tube (2-1) by utilizing a rolling machine having grooved rolls (5, 5-1) and a mandrel (9)for forming the tube (2-1) from a raw rolling tube (2). In the method, a length of contact between a rolling surface (6, 6-1) of a caliber formed by the grooved rolls and an outer circumference of the rolling tube is set to be 0.9 times or more of a circumferential length of the rolling tube over the entire area of the rolling region. It is preferred that the method be performed by a Pilger type rolling machine.

  • Patent number: 6230534
Abstract: A process for manufacturing a cold rolled stainless steel strip of high gloss with a high production efficiency by employing a high rolling speed. Mirror-finished work rolls having a Young's modulus exceeding 54,000 kgf/mm2 and a centerline average surface roughness, Ra, not exceeding 0.10 micron are employed for the last of a plurality of successive passes for cold rolling, while the steel to be drawn between the rolls for the last pass has a centerline average surface roughness, Ra, of 0.05 to 0.30 micron.

  • Patent number: 6223575
Abstract: A tube forming machine for making a tube from a sheet is disclosed. The forming rolls of this invention include various V-shaped rolls at least some of which are used as part of a three-point bending technique. The three-point bending technique entails the use of a V-shaped bottom roll and a narrow top roll. The sheet is shaped running the sheet through a gap between the narrow top roll and the V-shaped bottom roll. The technique allows a wide variety of tubing to be made from the same set of forming rolls, because the curvature obtained in a sheet can be varied by opening or closing the gap. A V-shaped forming roll disclosed herein is also used at a pinch roll stand with a second complementary V-shaped roll. The pinch roll stand of this invention creates an initial V-shaped sheet which facilitates the threading of the sheet at the start of a forming operation. Brimmed rolls are also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 6187455
Abstract: A decorative roll-patterned metal strip or sheet, preferably aluminium strip or sheet, having: a thickness of about 0.05-1.0 mm, preferably about 0.1-0.8 mm, with a surface having a plurality of indentations of a depth of about 0.001-0.05 mm, preferably about 0.02-0.035 mm, and optionally having a layer of a paint of a thickness of about 3-30 microns, preferably about 10-15 microns, on the surface and within its indentations, the ratio of the depth of the indentations to the thickness of the strip or sheet being in the range of about 1:5 to about 1:100. A process is provided for making the decorative roll-patterned metal strip.

  • Patent number: 6182490
Abstract: The present invention is a method and apparatus for the production of thin metal strip by the hot rolling process. Significant improvements in the finished products can be made by the arrangement of the apparatus and the method of the present invention. The apparatus of the present invention is a metal processing line having a roughing reversing mill stand and a finishing reversing mill stand, each with different sized working rolls. A heating furnace precedes each mill stand. The apparatus in the present invention has the advantages of producing desired thin metal strip in the thickness range of about 0.4 to about 1.2 mm at temperatures appropriate for the specific metal being rolled.

  • Patent number: 6171223
Abstract: A method for manufacturing a calendar roll in which a continuous band of filler material is wound onto an axle until a desired diameter for the roll is obtained, and then an elastic coating is applied to an outermost surface of the band, i.e., the outermost layer of windings. An adhesive agent may be applied onto the band such that adjacent windings of the band adhere to one another during winding of the band onto the axle. Adjacent windings of the band in an uppermost layer of windings may be welded together to provide a foundation for the elastic coating. The calender roll includes an axle, a uniform and continuous band of filler material wound onto the axle to provide the roll with a desired diameter, and an elastic polymer coating arranged on an outermost layer of windings of the band on the axle.
