Abstract: A method of extruding elements, especially made of metal, and a system for extruding elements, especially made of metal, are employed for production of elements by means of extrusion. The material is deflected from the infeed wheel tangentially or at an angle within 90° and is caused to flow locally within the area of the die, by the mandrel's rotary action. This method is executed in a system where in the gap's output area there is a wedge to deflect the direction of exit of the material fed by the rotating infeed wheel, and in the space between the friction block and the deflection wedge there is a mandrel caused to cyclically move bidirectionally at frequency of (0.1-10) Hz, whose face contacts the material in the area of transfer into the die.

  • Patent number: 5027634
Abstract: A method and apparatus for conditioning an aluminum billet for extrusion from an extrusion press. The billet is first heated above the solutionizing temperature for the MgSi phases in the aluminum matrix, then the billet is cooled below the solutionizing temperature to an adequate hot working temperature. Preferably, a temperature gradient is created along the length of the billet wherein one end of the billet is at or above the hot working temperature and the other end of the billet is cooled to a temperature below the hot working temperature. Thereafter, the billet is placed into the extrusion die, the hot end adjacent the die and the cool end adjacent the ram of the extrusion press. The billet is then extruded producing an extruded product with uniform properties along the length of the product with minimal defects such as tearing or hot shorting.

  • Patent number: 4989437
Abstract: A method and apparatus for extruding metal using the reverse method in which a billet placed in the bore of a container is compressed between a base and an extruding block. Billets are extruded in the raw state without prior removal of the outer layer, leaving a play sufficient to form a sleeve of a thickness at least equal to that of the outer layer to be removed, between the periphery of the block and the inner face of the bore, along the inner face. The bore is then scraped, using a scraping block whose periphery is separated from the inner face of the bore by a play which is less than the thickness of the sleeve but sufficient for the sleeve to be removed over a part only of its thickness.

  • Patent number: 4781053
Abstract: An indirect extrusion process, and apparatus therefor, for producing an extrusion product from a hot metal billet. A press container is mounted to be substantially axially stationary during extrusion of a billet. A hot billet, a die and a pressure disc are located into the axial throughbore of the container so that the billet is sandwiched between the die and pressure disc, with the pressure disc having a maximum outer diameter between opposite radial faces which is slightly less than the diameter of the axial throughbore to define a diametrical clearance between the pressure disc and the press container. A bolster is located adjacent the pressure disc and is axially fixed to substantially prevent axial movement of the pressure disc in a direction toward the bolster during extrusion. The bolster exerts a relatively insigificant axial force against the container.

Abstract: A process for forming a liquid-solid composition from a material which, when frozen from its liquid state without agitation, forms a dendritic structure. A material having a non-thioxotropic-type structure, in a solid form, is fed into an extruder. The material is heated to a temperature above its liquidus temperature. It is then cooled to a temperature less than its liquidus temperature and greater than its solidus temperature, while being subjected to sufficient shearing action to break at least a portion of the dendritic structures as they form.
