  • Patent number: 9027601
Abstract: A hydraulically installed tube plug with or without O.D surface enhancements and plug installation tooling, high pressure fluid system and method. The invention stops leaks in tubes with a plug that utilizes controlled high pressure fluid within the plug itself to radially expand the plug in place. Other plugs and plugging systems rely on mechanical methods for setting the plugs in the tubes with little or no control on the radial pressure applied to the tube. This lack of radial pressure control can result in a tubesheet ligament being over stressed (plastically deformed) or not enough pressure applied to stop the leak. The plug high pressure expansion tooling is designed with built in safety components that allow high pressure hydraulic expansion methods to be used safely in blind holes. The high pressure fluid system's design allows it to be used in hazardous environments.

Abstract: A process for manufacturing a can with a polygonal cross-section and a can with a polygonal cross-section, the process comprising the steps of milling the cylindrical lateral wall of a tubular body (10), providing said wall with a plurality of circumferential ribs (20) which are continuous and axially spaced from each other and defined by a certain degree of radial plastic deformation of the respective circumferential region of the cylindrical lateral wall of the tubular body (10); expanding the formed tubular body (10), deforming it, in order to define longitudinal edges (12) in whose region the circumferential ribs (20) are eliminated; and double-seaming a bottom and an upper wall of the can to the tubular body (10). This process defines a can having any polygonal cross-section and circumferential ribs (20) on the lateral wall thereof, between the longitudinal edges (12).

  • Patent number: 6502443
Abstract: A component rolling tool for applying a dynamic pressure groove comprising component rolling balls, cylindrical sleeve having an outer surface, an axis, a radius, a center hole, and guide holes, and being inserted into the bearing hole, and being relatively translated along the axis with respect to the bearing, and being relatively rotated about the axis with respect to the bearing, a moving roller coaxially inserted to the center hole, pressing the balls toward an outward direction of the guide holes and being moved along the axis in accordance with a pressure contact rotation between the balls and an inner peripheral surface of the bearing hole caused by a relative movement between the sleeve and the bearing, and a returning apparatus for returning the roller to an initial position at a desired timing in a state that the balls is released from a pressure contact with the inner peripheral surface.

  • Patent number: 6427513
Abstract: The invention related to a process for producing pipes, especially large pipes, as per the UOE process, wherein the pipes, after internal and external seam welding, are incrementally calibrated by cold expansion up to half the pipe length. The cold expansion is also used for straightening. For this purpose, the pipe is clamped at the shortest possible distance in front of the expander head, the free pipe end is flexibley deformed, and the pipe is then cold expanded in a known manner. The prestress force thereby decreases and then, after the release of the clamping and the remaining prestress, the pipe moves incrementally by the amount of the expander step width, up to half the pipe length. The process is then repeated for the second pipe half.

  • Patent number: 6412324
Abstract: Apparatus for and method of extruding a metal pipe having a substantially uniform inner diameter. The forward and rearward end sections of the pipe are thicker than the middle section of the pipe. A heated metal billet having a cylindrical longitudinal bore is inserted into the rear opening of a cylindrical bore of a stationary container. A two-part removable inner die is located within the bore of the container adjacent the forward end of the container and an outer die is located outside of the container adjacent the front end of the container. The inner die has a relatively small diameter cylindrical bore. The outer die has a relatively large diameter cylindrical bore. The billet is moved along a central longitudinal axis within the bore of the container by a press which includes a circular forward pressing surface and a mandrel extending forwardly from the pressing surface toward the billet.

  • Patent number: 6279368
Abstract: An apparatus for heating and setting a stent having curved limb elements. The apparatus is a mandrel having a restraining mechanism such as pins placed on the outer surface of the mandrel or shallow grooves machined in the outer surface of the mandrel to hold and mold the stent. The mandrel helps alleviate stresses induced upon stent elements during the heating and setting process and produces a more exact stent according to the desired stent design.

  • Patent number: 6260403
Abstract: A pipe arching apparatus, comprising an internal means for flattening and elongating the lower circumference of a pipe, while said pipe is positioned upon the ground. The apparatus is retractably compactible to be towably transportable and will arch pipes of larger size and longer lengths than traditional pipe arching equipment. It is powered by an internal combustion engine, has hydraulically extendible radius forms for forcibly reshaping the inside of a pipe, and is steerably drivable into and out of a pipe.

Abstract: The invention relates to a process for producing pipes, especially large pipes, according to the UOE process, wherein a pipe, after internal and external seam welding, is incrementally calibrated by cold expansion up to half the pipe length. The cold expansion is simultaneously used for straightening. For this purpose, the pipe is clamped at the shortest possible distance in front of an expander head, the free pipe end is flexibly deformed, and the pipe is then cold expanded in a known manner. The prestress force thereby decreases and then, after the release of the clamping and the remaining prestress, the pipe moves incrementally by the amount of and expander step width, up to one half of the pipe length. The process is then repeated for the second half of the pipe.
