Abstract: A brake and method of assembly are provided. The brake includes a friction plate configured for coupling to a rotatable body for rotation with the rotatable body about an axis of rotation, a pressure plate disposed about the axis on a first side of the friction plate and fixed against rotation, and an armature plate disposed about the axis on a second side of the friction plate. An electromagnet is disposed about the axis on an opposite side of the armature plate relative to the friction plate. A spring biases the armature plate in a first axial direction towards the friction plate and away from the electromagnet to engage the brake. A fastener couples the pressure plate to the electromagnet. The fastener conforms to a space between opposed surfaces of the pressure plate and the electromagnet and, upon hardening, bonds the pressure plate to the electromagnet.

Abstract: The forming recesses of a lower die and an upper die are formed to have a semi-oval profile so as to provide a forming space almost oval in section with the dies closed. The parting line between the lower die and the upper die is deviated as much as h from the major axis of the forming space toward the upper die side, and the opening width of the forming recess of the lower die is set to be slightly larger than the opening width of the forming recess of the upper die. A metal bent tube is plastic-deformed into an almost oval shape in section by closing the dies while being compressed in a peripheral direction by the lower and upper dies to eliminate spring-back caused by bending, whereby the buckling and pinching toward the outer side of the tube wall is prevented by the expanded portion of the lower die and buckling toward the inner side of the tube wall is prevented by a step difference formed by the difference in opening width between the lower die and the upper die.
Abstract: An energy absorber device is provided that includes a generally cylindrical member defining an axis and having an outer surface. The areas of stress concentration act as crush initiation features and are formed by the connection of the substantially annular members to the generally cylindrical member. Thus, expensive tooling, such as preformed dies, to form the initiation features in the generally cylindrical member is not required.
