Abstract: Threads are formed in situ throughout a bore of a sleeve inserted into a corresponding hole a substrate. A sleeve having a bore is inserted into a corresponding hole of a substrate. A mandrel is rotated through the sleeve. The mandrel has a threaded ended; the threaded end rotating throughout the bore of the sleeve forms threads throughout the bore. Prior to inserting the sleeve into the corresponding hole of the substrate, the sleeve can be placed onto the mandrel. In this case, the mandrel has an increasing diameter at the threaded end thereof, such that the sleeve rests on the mandrel towards the threaded end thereof where the bore has a smaller diameter than the mandrel. The mandrel is then rotated out of the sleeve in a direction opposite the direction in which the sleeve has been inserted into the corresponding hole of the substrate.

  • Patent number: 8117884
Abstract: A method is disclosed for cold-form profiling cylindrical, thin-walled hollow parts (1), comprising profiles (4) which extend in an essentially parallel manner in relation to the longitudinal axis (A) of the hollow part (1). At least one profiling tool (5) engages in a strike-like hammering manner with the outside of the hollow part (1) in a radial manner in relation to the longitudinal axis (A) o the hollow part (1). The profiling tool (5) engages, respectively, in an essentially vertical and oscillating manner on the surface of the hollow part (1). Then, the profiling tool (5) is displaced in an axial manner in relation to the hollow part (1) at a constant radial adjusting depth until the desired profile length is obtained.

  • Patent number: 7574797
Abstract: A throttle body for an automobile includes a throttle shaft defining a rotational axis. The throttle shaft includes deformable members integrally formed about an exterior surface of the throttle shaft. A housing includes a bore. The throttle shaft extends through the bore with the deformable member partially-located within the bore. A bearing includes an inner surface and an outer surface. The bearing inner surface forms a press-fit connection with the deformable members to substantially prevent movement between the throttle shaft and the bearing in a direction parallel to the rotational axis.

  • Patent number: 7418848
Abstract: Disclosed herein is a forming disk for fabricating a fin tube. The forming disk comprises a substantially circular plate having a shaft connection hole formed adjacent a center thereof for receiving a shaft of a form rolling machine. A plurality of projections having a first length are formed along a circumference of said plate at substantially regular angular intervals in such a way as to protrude in a radial direction, and a round curvature is formed in the formed fin at certain axial pitch periodically in a radial direction. Also disclosed is a high-performance and high-efficiency fin tube having formed fins. Each formed fin comprises a generally circular plate having a crest and a valley formed in both side faces at certain angular intervals along the circumference thereof so as to form a continuous curvature.

  • Patent number: 6706127
Abstract: A method of making a ball-screw rack bar for use in a power steering mechanism of an automotive vehicle. Transverse rack teeth are cut in an exterior surface of a first end portion of a length of a bar stock. A ball-screw thread is cut in an exterior surface of a second end portion of the length of bar stock. The first end portion is heat-treated to a first hardness and the second end portion is heat-treated to a second hardness by passing an induction coil scanner lengthwise over the length of bar stock from one end to the other. The ball-screw thread is cut by whirling. Preferably the heat-treating is carried out after the cutting of the transverse rack teeth and before the cutting of the ball-screw thread. The rack bar produced by this method may be solid or hollow. The rack bar may be made by separately forming two lengths of bar stock and butt-welding them together, or they may be made from a solid length of bar stock.
