Linear Cam Patents (Class 72/452.8)
  • Patent number: 9484700
Abstract: A biased closed crimping head for a hydraulic power tool. The crimping head comprises a first pivoting pin and a first jaw disposed for rotation about a first axis defined by the first pivoting pin. The crimping head further comprises a second pivoting pin and a second jaw disposed for rotation about a second axis defined by the second pivoting pin. An extension spring is operatively coupled to the first jaw and the second jaw so that the jaws reside in a biased closed position. During a crimping action, the first jaw rotates about a first axis defined by the first pivoting pin, and the second jaw rotates about a second axis defined by the second pivoting pin.

  • Patent number: 8567034
Abstract: The invention relates to a compression tool (2) for the permanent connection of workpieces (14, 16, 18, 30, 34) having two pivot elements (4), which each have a compression jaw (10), and having at least one rotational axis (6), on which the pivot elements (4) are hinged, wherein the inner contours of the opposing compression jaws (10) form a receiving area (12). The present invention is based on the technical problem of disclosing an alternative compression tool (2), with which a permanent connection can be provided between workpieces (14, 16, 18, 30, 34) by axial compression. The technical problem is solved in that the inner contours have at least one sliding face (22), which is inclined relative to the receiving area axis (20). A compression tool (2) can thus be provided which, starting from a radial inward movement, performs a compression in the axial direction, nonetheless requires little installation space, and offers weight advantages due to a smaller axial extension, for example.

  • Patent number: 8316685
Abstract: A pressing tool having a drive unit, a piston-cylinder unit with a fork-like receiver and an actual clamping pincer. The clamping pincer has a T-shaped mounting which, with a retaining bolt and a retaining bolt receiver, is connected to a fork-like receiver. In the fork-like receiver, a roller holder with two rollers is located. The fork-like receiver is part of the piston-cylinder unit. On actuation of the pressing tool, the piston-cylinder unit is pulled back and thus the roller holder with the rollers is moved forward relative thereto in an axial direction towards the clamping pincer. Thus, the rollers roll on roll flanks of the clamping jaws of the clamping pincer. The clamping pincer is pressed together by the rollers pressing apart the clamping jaws at the rear. Thus, the rollers are supported on a bearing block with sliding bearing surfaces.

Abstract: A filler cam assembly for use with a forming die generally including a center cam component, end cam components and a base assembly and being designed to transition between unloading and forming positions. The various cam components preferably have axial ends with helical surfaces such that rotation of one of the cam components causes a corresponding axial movement of an adjacent cam component. • Patent number: 7434440
Abstract: A heavy-duty hose clamp installation tool is described. A pair of lever arms operates a pair of jaw members to engage a pinch clamp ear. The installation tool includes a pair of jaw members with clamp edges forming a lip for receiving the clamp ears. A pair of extension arms connects the jaw members to a pair of lever arms. The extension arms are pivotally interconnected intermediate the jaw member section so that closing the handle ends of the lever arms translates the jaw members towards a closed position thereof, thus squeezing the clamp ear. Once the ear of the clamp is crimped, an auxiliary form punch is used to flatten the ear, resulting in a tighter clamp configuration.

  • Patent number: 7363799
Abstract: A jawset for crimping and punching an associated clamping workpiece has a pair of spaced apart side plates, a pair of pivot pins holding a pair of jawarms between the side plates, tooth members formed on the jawarms to crimp an associated clamp ring workpiece in a first direction, and a punch member slidable in the jawset relative to the jawarms to punch the associated workpiece in a second direction transverse the first direction. In one form, a timing disk is provided extending between the jawarms and through the slidable punch member. A biasing member is provided for urging the jawarms in an opening direction opposite the crimping direction. A workpiece alignment area is defined by a region of the spaced apart side plates for enabling relative alignment between the jawset and the associated workpiece. In a further embodiment, a pair of auxiliary side plates are carried adjacent ruggedized side plates for enabling an alignment area without adding undue weight or cost to the jawset.

  • Patent number: 7290431
Abstract: A pneumatically operated rivet squeezer is described, having features that allow for the miniaturization of a squeezer to a size smaller than portable rivet squeezers presently available. A first feature of the invention is that a return spring is accommodated within the squeezer housing by embedding the spring diametrically partially within a cavity in an internal wall of the housing and diametrically partially within a cavity in a jaw of the squeezer. A second feature of the invention contributing to miniaturization is that the squeezer utilizes a wedge having a very high mechanical advantage during the final stage of squeezing action, and a novel two curve surface for applying force to arms of the squeezer.

  • Patent number: 7225530
Abstract: A connector press provides for learning a specified connector pressed position, adjusting a force based threshold, and simultaneously pressing multiple connector types into a circuit board. The force based threshold may be adjusted via a slider bar on a user interface. The specified pressed position may be learned by measuring and storing a position or force value, upon the user causing the press to press the connector into a circuit board. A total force based threshold may be determined in order to simultaneously press multiple connector types. The total force based threshold may be based upon quantities and pressing forces of each of the connectors types. Further, the press may provide near capacity pressing force, even with an asymmetrical load, by including linear guides.

  • Publication number: 20030046973
Abstract: A crimping assembly is disclosed. The assembly includes cam profiles on the ends of the arms. The cam profiles are engaged by the crimping tool and control the input force versus displacement of the tool. The cam profile includes a first portion defined by a radius, a second portion adjacent the first portion and defined by a non-linear equation, and a third portion adjacent the second portion and defined by a linear equation. The assembly further includes a passive mode of failure in the side plates. The arms of the assembly have a hardness greater than the side plates and have a maximum section height at their point of rotation for increasing their strength. The assembly further includes a leaf spring disposed between the arms and held therebetween by pins disposed in holes defined in the sides of the arms. A crimp ring having an increased diameter is disclosed for reducing the crimping force required to crimp 3-inch fittings.
