Abstract: The upper platen of a press is driven by a ballscrew that is rotated by an electric motor. The ballscrew is suspended from the crown of the press, and the force on the ballscrew shaft when the upper platen is driven into the workpiece causes the crown to flex upward. The flexure of the crown is sensed by a position transducer mounted on a cantilever support. The position transducer generates a signal that can be used to determine the tonnage force developed by the press.

  • Patent number: 5203191
Abstract: A wire working machine and system are described with a working platform on which a rotatable mount with individually controllable wire working tool actuators is provided. The rotatable mount surrounds a workzone in which wire is worked with the tool mount being rotatable about the workzone to provide center line working of the wire. The rotatable mount is formed with removable segments each of which can support a tool actuator but can be removed to enlarge the workzone. The workzone extends through the working platform to enable a second rotatable mount located on the opposite side to form workpieces passed through the workzone. The working platform is movable in x and y directions to align with a wire preforming machine to form a wire working system with great versatility, accuracy and improved productivity.

  • Patent number: 5123342
Abstract: The present invention concerns a mechanical, low-noise press, particularly of the screw type, comprising a tup-bearing ram connected with a driving screw, rotatably connected with a lead nut, which is integrally fixed on the frame supporting the press. The press also comprises sealing means which define, together with the mating surfaces of the screw and of the lead nut, a chamber, having a pre-determined volume, adapted to collect an incompressible medium, such as a lubricating oil, and a circulation mechanism in order to maintain within the chamber a controlled delivery of the medium, which delivery insures the presence of a constant spacing film of medium between the mating surfaces during the operation phase of the press, so as to prevent the direct contact between the screw and the lead nut, thereby absorbing the vibrations and the collisions generated by their interaction.

  • Patent number: 5038596
Abstract: A mandrel assembly is utilized to cold work a hole in a structural member which is present in a confined area. A mandrel and sleeve are slipped through one end of the hole. The mandrel length is threaded so that a nut may be turned along its length. Between the nut and the structural member are jaws which retain the sleeve within the hole while the nut is turned. The outward end of the mandrel is fixed by means of clamping flats formed on the outward end so the mandrel may be drawn through the sleeve within the hole as the nut is tightened against the intermediately positioned washer and jaws.

  • Patent number: 5025652
Abstract: A collet surface structure is provided for a high-speed hydraulic press having collet interlock in order to eliminate leakage of oil into the clamping region. Furthermore, the formation of a harmful hydrostatic film thickness from the lubricating-oil film between the pressure rods and the collets is prevented, since the oil is immediately forced away due to the high clamping pressure between the clamping faces. These high clamping pressures result from the extremely short space of the lubricating-oil elimination grooves and the large capacity of the grooves. Thus, the oil-eliminating grooves are made large enough to eliminate reliably a hydrostatic oil film of at least 0.1 mm. This regularity is independent of the clamping diameter of the collet.
