  • Patent number: 7213438
Abstract: A bending tool (3) for bending workpieces (4) has at least one part with which an upward bend can be made in the workpiece (4) by an abutment of part of the bending tool acting on it along a line of force of the tool. At least one part of the bending tool has workpiece abutment segments (6, 7) which can be adjusted to different functional positions in relation to one another in the direction of the line of force and overlap one another with mutual separation along the line of force in the direction of the line of force. Adjacent segments are coupled and guided in their movement towards and away from each other. The bending tool may have an actuator to effect the relative movement of the segment and the actuator may be operated by the numeric control for the bending machine.

  • Patent number: 7086267
Abstract: A metal-forming die according to the present invention includes die blades with convoluted opposed side surfaces that correspond to variable-width features on the working surface of the die. The convoluted side surfaces and variable-width working surface features permit the impression left by one die blade to fill space taken from an impression made by a laterally adjacent die blade. Such a die permits formation of working surface shapes not possible with flat-sided die components. The die is manufactured in discrete longitudinally extending components, or blades. Dividing the working surface of the die into longitudinally extending portions, each carried by a die blade allows conventional machining processes to be employed in forming the working surface on each die blade. An additional machining process cuts complementary shapes on the sides of the die blades. The die blades and their corresponding working surfaces interfit, or nest together.

Abstract: A mechanical bending device (8) for bending flat workpieces (6) has at least one bending tool assembly (9) which includes at least one tool part that can move by means of a bending tool drive (27). When acted on by the tool part that moves, the workpiece can be bent along a bending line (11). The movable tool part is comprised of a multiplicity of adjacent segments disposed in the direction of the bending line (11), which segments can be selectively connected to the bending tool drive (27) to provide the desired operational length for the bending tool assembly. Abstract: A kit of parts for auto body dent repair includes a plurality of tool bodies (11) and a plurality of tips (80). Each tool body includes a rearward shaft (20) and handle (60). The rearward shafts of the various tool bodies include both those with compound (bent) shafts and simple (straight) shafts. The lengths of the tool bodies varies to fit different needs. Each tool body also includes a forward shaft (40), which is adjustably attached to a forward end of the rearward shaft. The appropriate tip may be installed on the forward end of the forward shaft of the appropriate tool body. As an alternative to the tips (80) and forward shafts (40), an integral dent repair tip (50) provides the functionality of a both in a single unit. In use, the appropriate tip (80), or integral dent repair tip (50), for the job may be installed on the appropriate tool body. The overall tool is then used to remove the dent from an auto body panel by applying force correctly to the inside surface of the body panel.

Abstract: A segmented pipe-bending die produces curvature across the pipe contacting surface of the die by varying the radii of the semi-circular pipe bending segments, or by offsetting the position of adjacent segments having equal or varying radii semi-circular apertures, laterally, longitudinally, or both. The pipe-bending die is formed from a plurality of metallic segments, which are affixed together. Each metallic segment of the die has a semi-circular pipe contacting surface portion. The radius of a plurality of the semi-circular pipe-contacting surface of each segment differs in length so that the pipe-contacting surface has a predetermined curvature formed by the resultant difference in height of the pipe contacting surface portions of each segment.
