Abstract: A quick-release apparatus for use with slide hammers includes a shaft adapter portion which is threaded onto the slide hammer shaft and at least one tool adapter portion which is threaded onto the hook or tool to be used. The shaft adapter portion and tool adapter portion are mechanically engaged and disengaged by pulling down on the locking collar on the shaft adapter portion and turning the tool adapter portion ninety degrees, then sliding the tool adapter portion off the shaft adapter. The same or different tool can then be installed by aligning the shaft adapter lugs with the slots on the tool adapter and pushing the tool adapter on, then turning the tool adapter ninety degrees until the positioning lugs on the locking collar engage.

Abstract: A tube expanding bullet is inserted into and expands a heat exchanger tube which has been pierced through collared fin holes of piled heat exchanging fins, so as to expand the fin holes and integrate the tube with the heat exchanging fins. The tube expanding bullet has a first part formed at a front part of the tube expanding bullet and a second part formed at a rear part of the tube expanding bullet whose maximum outer diameter is greater than that of the first part. The fin holes are firstly expanded by passing the first part of the bullet through the tube. The fin hole is secondly expanded by passing the second part of the bullet through the tube. • Patent number: 4751840
Abstract: An electrician's wire bending implement particularly adapted for use with a set of mandrels that are each provided with a drive socket, comprising in combination, an elongate basic wire bending tool, and a graduated array of mandrels that are each equipped with a pair of spaced apart pins. A square drive is provided at one end of the basic tool, and a handle is provided for use on the end of the basic tool remote from the square drive. The handle is to be used on the basic tool when ample torque is to be applied while making lateral bends in heavy gauge wire, using the spaced pins of a selected mandrel that has been mounted on the square drive. Preferably I use a fixed wire forming jaw on the end opposite the square drive, to facilitate creation of fore and aft bends in heavy gauge wire.

  • Patent number: 4727744
Abstract: A tool for removing dents from tubing, particularly dents from curved brass tubing used in musical instruments such as trombones, trumpets and french horns. The tool is designed not only to drive a barrel-shaped dent ball past the dent to raise it, but also to reverse the procedure to remove the tool from the horn in working with tubing that is not open ended. The tool has a series of barrel-shaped force transmitting beads which are pivotally connected to each other and to a tubular handle at one end. At the other end a length of cable extends through a fixed metal driver ball to a metal retainer bead at the end of the cable. A barrel-shaped dent ball is strung on the cable for movement between the driver ball and retainer bead for impacting motion by reciprocation of the handle when the dent ball has been lodged underneath the dent to be removed.

  • Patent number: 4727745
Abstract: A large size barrel-shaped dent ball for removing dents in curved and tapered tubing having a diameter between 21/2 and 41/2 inches such as a tuba. The ball is constructed with a hardwood core and a steel band about the center portion of its length. An axial steel tube is also inserted in the hardwood core to facilitate use and removal of the ball from the tube. This composite structure reduces the overall weight so that the ball can be manipulated during use. A cable tool on which the dent ball can be strung between two metal impact balls is also presented. Reciprocation of the cable provides repeated impact of a metal impact ball against the barrel-shaped dent ball to drive the dent ball under and past the dent in a dent removal and tool retrieval direction.

Abstract: A method and apparatus is provided for stamping or printing identification indicia on a circular segment such as the flat portion of the head of a cap screw, bearing race, or stud end. The adjustable diameter stamp uses a plurality of segments which, when fitted together, form a cylinder or other polygonal shape which is held securely in a matching collet during the stamping operation. Variable diameter stamping is accomplished by using different sized stamping segments. Also, shims may be used to provide marking diameter adjustment. The preferred embodiment uses four wedge-shaped stamping segments.

  • Patent number: 4723430
Abstract: A system for forming a surface configuration, such as a neck and a flange, on a can body adjacent an open end thereof using a mandrel having an outer surface comprising generally cylindrical portions on each side of an annular recess which recess has a surface configuration corresponding to the neck and the flange to be formed. A resilient deformable object is located around the mandrel. A portion of a can body is placed between the mandrel and the resilient, deformable object which is then deformed so as to move a portion of the can body into conformation with the surface of the annular recess. At the same time, a force is applied to a portion of the portion of the can body being deformed to resist the movement thereof so that the portion of the can body in which the neck and flange is being formed is stretched and thinned as it is moved into conformation with the surface of the annular recess.

  • Patent number: 4627166
Abstract: A device is provided which can be used to remove washers from bolts in an efficient, fast and safe manner. The device is comprised of a removable blade assembly disposed in a handle device. The blade assembly has an opening permitting the insertion of the bolt such that when the bolt is fully inserted into the blade assembly, the washer is in contact with a plurality of substantially radially disposed blades. The device itself is provided with a handle, in one embodiment knurled, so that it may be held in a persons hand. After the bolt is inserted into the device, the bolt head is tapped using a striking device, such as a hammer. The force of the impact causes the blades to be driven into the washer, splitting the washer into several arc-shaped pieces and separating them from the bolt. The resulting pieces fall away from the bolt when the bolt is removed from the device, or at least then may be very easily removed from the bolt.

  • Patent number: 4592224
Abstract: A process for extruding a metal billet, in particular a light metal billet in an extrusion container, into the form of a hollow section through a shape-giving orifice in a die having a mandrel which determines the inner contour of the hollow section, and a device with stem for extruding should be designed such that it is possible to produce flanged tubes with integral flange in one piece. This object is achieved by way of the invention in that in the extrusion of the hollow section an integral flange is produced, preferably at the end of the extrusion stroke. In the extrusion press suitable for this purpose a shaping recess is provided, with respect to the extrusion direction, immediately before the orifice of the die, the radial dimension of which is greater than the width of the die orifice. As such it should be possible to separate the die radial to the extrusion direction into at least two parts.
