  • Patent number: 11553251
Abstract: This application describes methods, systems, and apparatus for allowing a user to easily determine whether the user and/or other user(s) have viewed content. For example, a program guide may display one or more graphics associated with the content (e.g., a movie poster), and in response to determining whether the user has viewed the content, the program guide may include an indication of whether the user has viewed the content. The program guide may include indications associated with multiple users (e.g., different colors, icons, graphics, or text). The program guide may filter the content based on whether the user has viewed the content (e.g., only display content the user has not viewed). A computing device storing the content may manage recording of the content based on whether the user has viewed the content (e.g., delete the recording if the user has viewed the content). A viewing history of the user may be maintained.

Abstract: A system and method for improved navigation of available titles for a streaming media service is disclosed herein. After entering a discovery mode, a list of categories is presented to a user. Once a user selects a category, a list of criteria specific to the selected category is presented. After a user selects a criteria, a list of categories can be shown to the user, limited to those categories available after the criteria was selected. After a second category is selected, then a list of criteria, specific to the previously selected criteria and to the second category, is presented. Each time a user selects a new criteria, the number of titles available to a user is reduced. Such a process can be repeated, further limiting the number of titles shown to the user, until a user finally chooses a media file to view. Other embodiments are also disclosed herein.

  • Patent number: 10560760
Abstract: Despite the massive advances in digital electronics, telecommunications networks, and electronic devices in the past 20 years our engagement with video content is essentially unchanged to that of the first video recorders as it is merely where we access it and upon what we access it that have changed. It is still a passive experience. Accordingly, it would be beneficial to provide multimedia content that facilitates user engagement and transactions directly through their viewing of the multimedia content in shareable multimedia content elements. Such engagement and transactions may be accessing additional informational content linked to specific elements within the multimedia content or triggering the purchase of an item contained within the multimedia content. Embodiments of the invention may support monetization, analytics, secondary multimedia content, website functionality and micro-websites.
