  • Patent number: 11553251
Abstract: This application describes methods, systems, and apparatus for allowing a user to easily determine whether the user and/or other user(s) have viewed content. For example, a program guide may display one or more graphics associated with the content (e.g., a movie poster), and in response to determining whether the user has viewed the content, the program guide may include an indication of whether the user has viewed the content. The program guide may include indications associated with multiple users (e.g., different colors, icons, graphics, or text). The program guide may filter the content based on whether the user has viewed the content (e.g., only display content the user has not viewed). A computing device storing the content may manage recording of the content based on whether the user has viewed the content (e.g., delete the recording if the user has viewed the content). A viewing history of the user may be maintained.

Abstract: The present invention is a method and system for generation and playback of supplemented videos which include interactive features. The supplemented video includes hotspots that allow a video viewer to interact with the video when the video viewer sees an object. The hotspots can be manually defined. Information regarding the object and the hotspot can be stored in a separate XML file. Furthermore, the present invention can be a marketplace where a desired object can be found by searching the XML file. The search results can list the supplemented videos which contain hotspots corresponding to the object and also the time in the supplemented video in which the object is found. The present invention can also aggregate data about the objects based on the playback of the supplemented videos and the video viewer's interaction with the supplemented videos.

Abstract: Embodiments are directed toward providing a customized over-the-air channel mapping to each content receiver in a geographical area based on crowdsourced mappings of available channels from at least a subset of the content receivers in that geographical area. When a new content receiver is installed in the geographical area, the customized over-the-air channel mapping is provided to the new content receiver and used by the new content receiver as its internal list of available over-the-air channels without performing a scan of its own. At least a portion of the content receivers in the geographical area perform a round-robin-type scan to identify new or missing channels in the geographical area. When the client device contacts a web domain for authentication or other purposes, however, the client device suitably opens a secondary data connection to the domain to transparently request and received web content. The received content is cached by the client device for subsequent use in offline mode when the WAN is unavailable.

  • Patent number: 10560760
Abstract: Despite the massive advances in digital electronics, telecommunications networks, and electronic devices in the past 20 years our engagement with video content is essentially unchanged to that of the first video recorders as it is merely where we access it and upon what we access it that have changed. It is still a passive experience. Accordingly, it would be beneficial to provide multimedia content that facilitates user engagement and transactions directly through their viewing of the multimedia content in shareable multimedia content elements. Such engagement and transactions may be accessing additional informational content linked to specific elements within the multimedia content or triggering the purchase of an item contained within the multimedia content. Embodiments of the invention may support monetization, analytics, secondary multimedia content, website functionality and micro-websites.

Abstract: This application is directed to a method implemented on a computing device for supplementing a live broadcast displayed at a client device. The computing device analyzes descriptive information for the live broadcast and generates first keywords related to the live broadcast from the descriptive information. The computing device receives a plurality of live information streams independent from the live broadcast, and automatically without user intervention, extracts second keywords from the plurality of events. The computing device determines the relevance of each event in the plurality of events to the live broadcast by correlating the first keywords generated from the descriptive information of the live broadcast and the second keywords extracted from the plurality of events, thereby selecting a subset of the plurality of events. Information representing the subset of events is formatted for display.
