  • Patent number: 11408795
Abstract: It is an object of the present invention to enhance reliability of an allowable limit conductance used for setting a threshold value for evaluating sealability of a test object, and further, enhance reliability of the sealability evaluation. By leak testing a test object 9A with a sealing defect 9g, a leakage characteristic that shows a relationship between an internal-external pressure difference and a leak flow rate is obtained. A conductance of a test object with a similar artificial leak 9B having a similar artificial leak device 29 disposed therein, conducting the leak-detected substance is measured. The similar artificial leak device 29 has a leakage characteristic similar to the obtained leakage characteristic. An allowable limit conductance is obtained based on results of the measurement. Sealability of a test object 9 is evaluated based on a threshold value set with a standard artificial leak device 9S having the allowable limit conductance.

  • Patent number: 11402291
Abstract: A method of assessing damage to a composite member requires the formation of a composite member comprising at least one cavity. A first pressure differential is then established between the cavity and the surrounding ambient pressure. The rate of change of the pressure differential over a first predetermined period is monitored and then the pressure differential is allowed to subside. The result of the monitoring step is stored as a reference value, so that after the composite member is damaged, or after it has been in service for a predetermined time, the test can be repeated and compared with the reference value. If the result of the repeated monitoring differs from the reference value by more than a predetermined amount, it is determined that the composite member is defective.

Abstract: The invention relates to a method for determining the rate of leakage on a non-rigid specimen, wherein the specimen is introduced to a film chamber which can be evacuated, having at least one wall region made of a flexible material and the pressure in the film chamber is reduced outside of the specimen. The pressure gradient within the film chamber outside of the specimen is measured. In order to increase the accuracy of the leak detection, an outer over-pressure is exerted on the flexible wall region during pressure measurement which exceeds the pressure in the film chamber and outside of the specimen and the pressure inside the specimen.

  • Patent number: 9606044
Abstract: Techniques for testing a component for compatibility with a depressurization profile associated with a launch vehicle payload fairing during ascent are disclosed. A pressure of air or other gas within a pressure vessel containing the component is raised to a first value substantially higher than one atmosphere absolute pressure. The air/gas pressure within the pressure vessel is lowered, by venting into the ambient atmosphere, at a rate simulating or demonstrating margin with respect to the launch vehicle payload fairing depressurization profile. The component is inspected for damage. The component may be a panel including a honeycomb core sandwiched between two faceskins, the panel having a planar area in excess of twenty five square feet.

  • Patent number: 9534980
Abstract: A method for testing the integrity of a bioreactor container includes providing a bioreactor container having a fluid-tight, at least locally flexible wall and having at least one container opening and providing a test apparatus having a bioreactor container compartment and a fluid-permeable and/or structured reception sheet arranged replaceably on the bioreactor container compartment. The method continues by arranging the bioreactor container in the bioreactor container compartment so that the bioreactor container wall contacts the reception sheet in the bioreactor container compartment, connecting the container opening of the bioreactor container to a fluid source filling the bioreactor container with a fluid from the fluid source to generate a predetermined positive pressure P1 in the bioreactor container at a first time T1 and determining whether the bioreactor container is sufficiently leaktight.

  • Patent number: 9528905
Abstract: A portable test device and related method are disclosed for conducting integrity testing of flexible containers. The test is particularly useful for testing aseptic flexible film bags in a manner that maintains the sterile nature of the container and removes crinkles by inflating the containers to remove crinkles and establish an inflation set point. The decay in pressure is measured over a predetermined period of time; if pressure loss does not exceed a predetermined threshold the integrity of the bag is confirmed and it can be filled without further manipulation of the container that may result in introducing flaws.
