Piston And Cylinder Patents (Class 73/864.16)
  • Patent number: 11833519
Abstract: Instrument free “plasticware” is provided that enables multi-step molecular reactions in a diagnostics context. A hollow plunger that is movable within a surrounding tube defines a reaction chamber inside the plunger. By moving the plunger to different positions in the tube, a sample can be collected, then the sample can be washed, and finally the reaction chamber can be sealed to perform diagnostic reactions on the sample. The juxtaposition of large sample collection/washing volume with small reaction volume allows one to conduct a wide range of diagnostic assays including a LAMP (Loop mediated isothermal amplification) based saliva test in a small, portable self-contained device. Applications include Molecular diagnostics for health applications (including COVID19 test), Environmental Monitoring, Disease surveillance, and Veterinary health.

  • Patent number: 11280805
Abstract: A robot accessory and/or device that provides a sample collector device, a sample storage device, and a work surface. Upon activation, the sample collector device performs a full cycle in which an actuator causes the movement (i.e., extension and then retraction) of an actuator arm that simultaneously causes the top link plate, the lance plunger, the plunger guide, and the plunger to likewise move, including the depression and/or compression and release of the pipette. During this full cycle, this single device is able to remotely collect solid, liquid and/or multiphase samples of potentially hazardous materials and reduces human exposure to this hazardous material and dangerous environment.

  • Patent number: 9421327
Abstract: A dosing unit for an infusion pump device is disclosed having a piston pump with a pump cylinder and a plunger arranged within said cylinder, coaxially arranged along a longitudinal axis. The plunger has a shaft with a thread and the cylinder has a threaded sleeve part with a thread. The two threads engaging with each other in such a way that a rotational movement of the plunger around the longitudinal axis results in an additional linear displacement of the plunger along said longitudinal axis. A separate bias force element biases the two threads in regard to each other along the longitudinal axis, such that the threaded engagement of inner thread and outer thread is free of play independent of a direction of a rotational movement and linear displacement of the plunger in regard to the cylinder.

  • Patent number: 9295986
Abstract: A pipette for use with pipette tips in which a set metering volume is secured in that the locking body is arranged on the circumference of the annular cylindrical locking element when it is in the locking position. Through this, the transmission part which the locking element comprises on the outer circumference is held fast. The annular cylindrical locking element can be formed separately from a toothed ring for driving a counter mechanism. Thus, it is possible to perform the locking in arbitrary positions or in more selectable rotational positions than in the conventional locking equipment, where a locking element engages into the toothed ring for driving the counter mechanism.

  • Publication number: 20130283884
Abstract: A pipette includes a movable piston and a diaphragm that at least partly defines a fluid chamber enclosing a volume of working fluid. The piston displaces a volumetric amount of the working fluid in the chamber when moved. In response, the diaphragm displaces a smaller volumetric amount of fluid outside the chamber. A deamplification ratio is defined by the ratio of the volume displaced by the diaphragm to the volume displaced by the piston. The deamplification ratio is adjustable by adjusting or changing the diaphragm and/or by adjusting the size of the fluid chamber. The deamplifying pipette enables measuring and dispensing of very small volumes of liquid and is easily adapted to commercially available pipette components. Pipette components such as a pipette tip or adaptor may include a diaphragm to enable deamplification of the nominal volume capacity of a given pipette device.

The new ergonomic pipette tip incorporates a separate sealing member constructed from an elastomer that is coupled to the more rigid and chemically inert elongated tubular member that becomes the receptacle for transferring the fluid sample aspirated by the pipetter. The new elastomeric sealing member allows for greater sealing capability or squeeze between the pipetter barrel and the new pipette tip while lowering the coefficient of friction between the mating parts, thus decreasing the axial ejection forces require to overcome the breakaway friction between the new ergonomic pipette tip and the pipetter.

Abstract: A pipette is provided. The pipette includes a body, a piston, and a valve. The body includes a nozzle, a first chamber, a second chamber, and a channel formed in the nozzle. The first chamber is isolated from the second chamber, and the channel is isolated from the first chamber and the second chamber. The piston is mounted to slide within the first chamber and the second chamber so that movement of the piston simultaneously increases a first volume of the first chamber and decreases a second volume of the second chamber. The valve is in communication with the first chamber, the second chamber, the channel, and an exterior of the body to selectively provide a communication between the first chamber and the channel, between the second chamber and the channel, between the first chamber and the exterior of the body, and between the second chamber and the exterior of the body.

Abstract: Systems and methods are provided that can include a storage and retrieval robot operating under program control to extract a selective number of support beads from a storage or retainment region, for dispensing to titer wells or other vessels for assays and other purposes. According to various embodiments, the storage and retrieval robot can position a capture device over any one or more storage wells containing oligonucleotide or other material support beads, and withdraw or extract those support beads into a collection tube under vacuum pressure or other force. According to various embodiments, a selected number of support beads can be extracted, using a linear motor piston to limit available space for support bead insertion. According to various embodiments, the collected support beads can be dispensed into one or more destination tubes, wells, or other containers, surfaces, vessels, receptacles or mixture containment region, for use in assays or other purposes.
