Abstract: A walking beam pumping system is disclosed wherein the pumping system's prime mover is gravity. In one embodiment, the system comprises a walking beam pivotally coupled to a support structure at a pivot point substantially central along the length of the walking beam. A counterbalance weight is disposed along the length of the walking beam. A position device is provided for moving the counterbalance weight along at least a portion of the length of the walking beam. As the counterbalance weight moves along the length of the walking beam, the beam's center of gravity is modulated. • Patent number: 5131485
Abstract: An apparatus for steering rear wheels of a four-wheel steering vehicle is provided. This apparatus includes a first housing which has an operating rod displaceable along the longitudinal center line thereof for steering the rear wheels, a second housing which has a cam rotatably supported thereby for displacing the operating rod in a desired direction, a movable block engaging with the cam, and a stationary block mounted on the operating rod. The movable block moves along a guide rod provided in the second housing according to rotation of the cam. The stationary block transmits the movement of the movable block to the operating rod at a first angular position between the guide rod and the operating rod and blocks the transmission of the movement of the movable block at a second angular position different from the first position.

  • Patent number: 5115838
Abstract: Drive system for the knife grids of a double-lift open-shed Jacquard machine, which is mounted entirely above the Jacquard machine, and which comprises a central drive shaft which at both ends drives a set of conjugate cams which imparts motion to two follower levers which lie diametrically opposite each other. These follower levers carry out a to and fro pivoting movement in opposite phase to each other, about a transverse axis of symmetry, in between their arms. With each pair of follower levers two knife suspension bars are connected to said arms by means of drive rods in such a way that they move up and down in vertical, parallel planes in opposite phase to each other. A number of knives are suspended in the weft direction on every two knife suspension bars moving in phase, which are situated on either side of the machine in the warp direction. The lift and the inclination of the knife suspension bars are adjustable.

Abstract: Provided is a damper for controlling air flow through an air duct. The damper includes a mounting fame secured to the interior of the duct which has a circular opening for air flow therethrough when the damper is open. A circular damper plate is provided which is dimensioned to block the circular opening in the closed position while in the fully open position the plate is rotated approximately 90 degrees where it is parallel to the flow direction through the duct. The movement of the damper plate is controlled by an actuator mechanism having a pair of spaced guide plates each of which is provided with two diverging arcuate guide slots. Corresponding guide slots in the two plates are aligned at the same vertical height. A movable support bracket is disposed between the two plates and supports two guide pins which extend horizontally through the aligned slots.

Abstract: A pair of linear actuators is disposed within a gas turbojet engine exhaust nozzle for actuating a pivotable truss frame which in turn actuates a divergent flap. One end of each actuator is pivotally mounted to a fixed structural support within the exhaust nozzle while the other end of each actuator is pivotally mounted to the truss frame. Rollers mounted to the truss frame transmit actuation forces from the actuators to the divergent flap without transmitting parasitic actuation loads to the divergent flap.

  • Patent number: 5088365
Abstract: A cut-off die set of the double cut type, in which sections of tubing are successively severed from a length of tubing, utilizing a notching cut followed by a severing cut. A rack and pinion assembly is used to transform the vertical reciprocating motion of the upper and lower platen into the horizintal reciprocating motion used for the notching stroke. The rack and pinion assembly comprises a rack mounted to the upper platen and a gear sector mounted to the lower platen, the gear sector includes a drive roller which engages a cam track on the cross slide. As the upper platen and lower platen are vertically reciprocated, the rack member causes the gear sector to rotate, sliding the drive roller through an arcuate path. Movement of the drive roller through the arcuate path causes the cross slide to move in a reciprocating manner in relation to the reciprocating motion of the upper and lower platens.

Abstract: A device for adjusting and locking the inclination of the backrest of a seat, for example an aircraft seat, comprises a gas compression spring which acts between the back rest and the frame of the seat and which is of the type which has a locking and release member, which, when pressed frees the spring to expand or to be compressed and when released locks the spring in any position in which it is set to lock the back rest. The locking and release member is operated by a button fitted in an arm rest of the seat. To enable the button to operate the locking and release member entirely mechanically, the button is connected to one end of a Bowden cable through a first lever and the other end of the Bowden cable is connected to the locking and release member through a second lever. The two levers together provide a mechanical advantage of 8:1 between the force applied to the button and that acting on the locking and release member.
