  • Patent number: 4770598
Abstract: Apparatus for transferring an article is equipped with an arrangement for increasing or multiplying an output speed, wherein an original transfer move is produced by a linear extendable power cylinder unit and this basic linear move is made use of rolling a pinion, which is adapted to roll on a rack, and co-axially with the pinion, a pulley is provided with a diameter larger than that of the pinion, thereby in rotation the co-axial pulley being capable of rendering a larger peripheral speed, this larger peripheral speed is converted to a linear transfer move by belting arrangement so that the converted linear transfer move may be added to the basic linear move, thereby output speed is sum of the basic move and the converted move which was once transformed to rotation from the basic linear move. Magnitude of multiplication may be changed by change of a diametric enlarging ratio between the pinion and the co-axial pulley.

  • Patent number: 4768911
Abstract: A sample transfer device (10) for manipulating a sample (S) in a pair of sealed vacuum chambers (18, 102) comprises a tubular housing (12) made from a magnetically permeable material. The housing has one closed end (14) and another flanged open end (16) for attachment to the vacuum chamber. Located inside the housing is shaft (40) of a square cross section. One end of the shaft is rotatingly connected to an inner permanent magnet (66) which can rotate with respect to the shaft but moves axially together therewith. • Patent number: 4606587
Abstract: A gas bearing air slide assembly includes a slide ram movable within a relatively stationary housing. The slide ram and housing have a plurality of mated planar slide surfaces. Pressurized air is supplied between the mated slide surfaces of the slide ram and housing to create a hydrostatic bearing separating said mated surfaces and supporting the slide ram for longitudinal movement with respect to the housing. A counterbalance is provided on the slide ram for movement in direction opposite that of slide ram movement to compensate for slide ram axial displacement as it is extended from the housing. The housing is formed from a pair of identical housing halves joined along a joinder plane which passes through a central longitudinal axis of the slide ram. The slide surfaces of the ram and housing are mated by equalized lapping to a point of zero tolerance.

  • Patent number: 4573369
Abstract: A linear drive has a pneumatic or hydraulic actuator cylinder, whose piston rod is fixed in place and whose moving, axially guided cylinder forms a supporting and driving part of a stroke ratio changing transmission for transmitting the relative motion between the cylinder and its axial guide to a linearly moving drive output member. A useful effect is produced by having the output member (1) guided on the outside on a slotted tube, a driving spur of the member (1) running in the slot in the tube and being fixed to the stroke ratio changing transmission that is inside. The tube placed round the cylinder is used for axially guiding the cylinder. The stroke ratio changing transmission is for example in the form of two pulleys mounted on the cylinder and a cord trained over them, the cord being fixed to the member and joined to the tube by a mounting arrangement.

  • Patent number: 4572028
Abstract: The present invention pertains to a continuously variable gear device for converting a rotary motion into a linear motion which is dependent on the angle of rotation. The gear device comprises a swivel arm which is rotatable about a fulcrum and is attached to a guide structure on the input and output sides, respectively, of the gear device. Each guide structure is provided with a sliding member to which strings are attached. The swivel arm has guide slots formed on either side of the fulcrum and each guide structure has a roller bearing which engages one of the slots. The mutual distance between the two guide structures is adjustable, by moving one of the guide structures along a positioning rail to vary the transmission ratio of the device.

  • Patent number: 4570474
Abstract: A flat metal strip is placed horizontally on a base plate which is vertically movable between a ram and a bolster of a press. A bending die for bending the metal strip by applying pressure in the widthwise direction is fixed to a slide cam slidable horizontally on the base plate. The slide cam has a slide cam face abutting on a front cam face formed in a drive cam mounted on the bolster. When the ram is moved downwards, a cover plate fixed to the ram covers the metal strip, pushes the base plate and the slide cam downwards, and compels the slide cam to slide horizontally toward the metal strip with the aid of the front and slide cam faces to bend the metal strip with the bending die. On the other hand, the drive cam has a rear cam face abutting on a press cam face formed in a press cam fixed to the ram.

Abstract: A power transmission apparatus includes a housing to which input and output shafts are journalled. The input shaft is rotated by a motor or prime mover to thereby drive a cardioidal-shaped cam. The cam reciprocates a drive rod which has a first end slidably and pivotally connected to one end portion of a plural-section lever. The lever is pivoted to a lever supporting structure for oscillating movement, in response to reciprocations of the drive rod. The lever pivots about a fulcrum pivot axis which is fixed relative to the lever and positioned intermediate the ends of the lever. A first end portion of an output rod is slidably and pivotally connected to the other end portion of the lever. A drive speed adjustment mechanism is provided for shifting the lever supporting structure, and thereby the lever, relative to the input and output loads.

  • Patent number: 4565357
Abstract: A quick-acting clamping device for clamping tools or workpieces in machine tools comprises a piston which is slidable transversely to the clamping direction and which acts on a toggle mechanism which in turn moves a clamping piece. A pressure plate upon which the toggle mechanism acts is displaceable in the clamping direction in a housing which contains the transverse piston. The fluid under pressure which acts on the transverse piston to activate the toggle mechanism also acts directly on the pressure plate to assist in clamping. Because of the assisting force produced by the pressure plate it is possible for the transverse piston to move the members of the toggle mechanism from starting positions in which they lie at large angles to the clamping direction, that is with a big angular displacement from their dead-center position, in which they initially exert only a small force on the clamping piece.
