A second rotor located at the axis imparts a second axial load and a second moment. A second shaft is connected to the second rotor at the axis, the second shaft coaxial with the first rotor. A second bearing connects the gearbox to the second shaft, transferring the second axial load from the second shaft to the gearbox. A nonrotating standpipe is located at the axis radially between the first shaft and the second shaft. An intershaft bearing located at the standpipe reacts the first and second moments using the first and second bearings.

The countershafts are rotatably supported and displace axially between bearing or bushing supports, while the meshed gears comprise a helical gear tooth arrangement to create axial load on the countershaft if excessive and uneven load is sensed in one countershaft over another. This presents a new and unique countershaft meshing design that allows multiple countershafts to achieve equal load sharing while permitting gear synchronizers use on the main shaft.

    Abstract: A transmission for a vehicle having a sub shaft supported in casings via bearings, and an input gear, an output gear, and a boss of a clutch outer, etc. stacked on the sub shaft and retained by a cotter key. The input gear and the output gear are helical gears, and thrust forces acting on the two gears are generated in opposite directions. A rightward thrust force acting on the input gear is borne by the casing via an annular projection, the sub shaft and the bearing, and a leftward force acting on the output gear, which is separated from the cotter key by a gap, is borne by the casing via the bearing provided on the side face of the output gear. This arrangement eliminates any need for fixing gears supported on a shaft of a transmission by a nut or a bolt in the axial direction, thus saving space and reducing the number of parts.
