  • Patent number: 7793561
Abstract: A threaded nut is provided for a linear drive having a rotatable spindle. The threaded nut is provided with a main nut, wherein the main nut is intended for being arranged with its internal thread on the external thread of the spindle, and is intended to perform a translatory displacing motion during a rotary motion of the spindle. The threaded nut has, furthermore, a safety nut, which is intended not to mesh by its internal thread with the external thread of the spindle during the normal operation of the linear drive and to mesh with the thread of the spindle in case of failure of the main nut. To make possible simple mounting in case of such a threaded nut means and to reduce the risk for incorrect alignment, the main nut (11) has a first part and a second part. The two parts are located at spaced locations from one another and each part being provided with a threaded section (18a, 18b) of the main nut (11), wherein the safety nut (12) is intended to be arranged between the two threaded sections (18a, 18b).

  • Patent number: 7685898
Abstract: A linear actuator includes a spindle, a main nut, and a safety nut which cooperates with the main nut. The flank of the safety nut closest to the load supported by the spindle is made steep, i.e., forms an acute angle of between about 20 to 30 degrees with its longitudinal axis, thereby providing a great frictional force by engagement with the threads of the spindle in the event that the main nut fails. The great frictional force is brought about because the threads of the spindle, exclusively with the outer edge, become in linear engagement with the steep flank on the safety nut.

  • Patent number: 6691587
Abstract: Actuators for subsea downhole chokes have tended to include hydraulic pistons which are prone to failure and crude in accuracy. The invention provides an actuator (1) having first and second rotary motors (2, 16) and an output region (3) arranged to engage a load, such as a choke sleeve. In a first mode of operation, the first rotary motor (2) imparts linear motion to the output in a first screw connection (4, 5). In a second mode of operation, the second rotary motor (16) imparts linear motion to the output via a second screw connection (12, 14). The provision of screw connections permits gradual linear motion of the output to be achieved. The provision of two motors permits continuing performance in the event of failure of one of the motors.

  • Patent number: 6516680
Abstract: A power steering apparatus comprises a rotary cylinder supported with its movement in the axial direction restrained and rotated coaxially with the steering shaft by the force a transmitted from the motor for assisting steering, a plurality of feed rings held eccentrically in said rotary cylinder with their axial centers in parallel, and an engaging groove formed spirally around the outer circumference of the steering shaft for engaging with the projections provided circumferentially on the inner surfaces of the respective feed rings. With this arrangement, it becomes possible to convert the rotation of the motor into the movement in the axial direction of the steering shaft. A hollow, elongate reinforcing rail extends lengthwise of and surrounds the lead screw. A slot in the rail extends lengthwise of the central axis of the lead screw. The anti-backlash nut comprises two separate portions, each portion having a tongue which extends radially through the slot and has threads engageable with the threads of the lead screw for moving both nut portions in reciprocating motion lengthwise of the rail when the screw is rotated. Spring means are employed for forcing the nut portions apart to urge the flanges of their threads into forcible engagement with the threads of the lead screw to prevent backlash, while the anti-backlash nut translates laterally along the reinforcing rail.
