Nut Segments Hinged Parallel To Shaft (e.g., Clam Shell-type, Etc.) Patents (Class 74/424.79)
  • Patent number: 8800402
Abstract: In one use, a motor mechanism for an electronic lock is disclosed. In one embodiment, the motor mechanism includes a split nut that travels along a threaded screw drive. When the split nut is physically limited from further travel along the screw drive, the split nut decouples and recouples with the screw drive to reduce drag on the motor and thereby reduce motor burnout. As a result, smaller, more cost effective and efficient electric motors may be utilized together with simplified electronics.

  • Patent number: 8286519
Abstract: Linear actuator device, comprising a housing (2), an externally threaded screw (5), a piston (9) and an internally threaded extended nut (7), where the extended nut (7) comprises a plurality of longitudinal segments (40) having longitudinal edges (39) parallel to a center axis (18) of the internally threaded nut (7), where each segment (40) has an identical radius of curvature and an angle of curvature of less than 360°, so that the circumference of the internally threaded nut (7) is formed by at least two segments (40). One advantage of the invention is that linear actuators of different lengths can be manufactured in an easy and cost-effective manner.

  • Patent number: 8205519
Abstract: A ball screw drive which has a ball nut arranged on a spindle. The ball nut has a nut element and a deflecting element that deflects balls out of one end of an endless ball channel defined by the ball nut and the spindle to a beginning of the ball channel. The deflecting element is retained on the nut element through a clip. At least one clip leg of the clip has a first, resiliently biased section and a second section separated from the first section by a slit. The first section resiliently suspends the deflecting element on the nut element and the second section retains the clip inseparably on the deflecting element.

  • Patent number: 7543516
Abstract: A system and method for automatically aligning the threads of a lead screw with the threads of a screw drive mechanism, the screw drive mechanism operating to translate the rotational motion of the lead screw into linear motion to expel the contents of a mounted syringe. The system comprises a driver position sensor for determining the position of the screw drive mechanism along the lead screw and a processor for receiving position signals from the driver position sensor, for determining a requisite rotation of the lead screw to ensure alignment of the two sets of threads, and for effectuating the requisite rotation of the lead screw to achieve that alignment. An automatic calibration routine is included that checks for variances in calibration of the system and if found, updates a conversion factor to restore accuracy. Various sensors are used to monitor the operation of components.

  • Patent number: 7415906
Abstract: A linear stage having a screw-nut assembly is actuated by the rotational motion of the screw. A mechanism, which is an integral part of the nut, quickly disconnects the screw and the nut, allowing rapid positioning of the linear stage in both the forward and reverse direction. The motion of said stage has a resolution given by the thread pitch of the screw and the nut; and a travel only limited by the length of the screw. The quick disconnect screw-nut assembly mechanism described in this invention is achieved by axial preloading said nut and allowing said nut to pivot perpendicular to the axis of said screw. Two or more linear stages having said screw-nut assembly are concatenated with one another to form a multi-axis positioning device.

  • Patent number: 6851330
Abstract: A ball nut has at least one internal bearing race with a first end and second end, and at least one recirculating crossover passage for connecting the first end with the second end of the bearing race to form a continuous recirculating path for a plurality of ball bearings. A method for producing a ball nut includes the steps of forming at least a portion of the ball nut body with a helix passage for receiving a plurality of ball bearings, forming a crossover passage in communication with the helix passage for returning the plurality of ball bearings to an opposite end of the helix passage, and assembling the ball nut body portions to position the helix passage and operable orientation with respect to the crossover passage to define at least one raceway having a single recirculating rotational path for receiving the plurality of ball bearings. The ball nut body can be formed by being drawn, coined, metal injection molded, roll formed, through rolled, stamped and/or overmolded.
