  • Patent number: 11391351
Abstract: In a rotation transmission mechanism that transmits the rotational driving force of a motor to a load-side member via a speed reducer, a strain wave gearing is used as the speed reducer, and the allowable load torque of members in the powertrain other than the strain wave gearing is greater than a predetermined upper-limit load torque. The allowable load torque of the strain wave gearing is dictated by the ratcheting torque, which is set so as not to exceed the upper-limit load torque. In an overload state, ratcheting is generated in the strain wave gearing, so that the strain wave gearing functions as a mechanical fuse. Other power transmission members can be protected from an overload state without adding a separate member such as a torque limiter.

Abstract: The invention aims to improve not only the resistance to abrasion and scoring, but also the fatigue strength against pitting and chipping, without increasing the number of steps of the manufacturing process. The tooth face 2 of the gear is smoothed by gyro polishing. In the thus smoothed tooth face 2, a multitude of microscopic recesses 3 are randomly formed by liquid honing in which microscopic hard particles are collided with the tooth surface together with liquid. By the liquid honing, a large compressive residual stress is produced on the tooth face 2. This improves not only the resistance to abrasion and scoring, but also the fatigue strength against pitting and chipping, without increasing the number of steps of the manufacturing process.

  • Publication number: 20110113911
Abstract: The invention relates to the gearing of a gearwheel having a plurality of teeth. The gearwheel has a useful area and a base area of the particular tooth flank form. Viewed in normal section, the tooth base area extends from a base circle up to a useful circle. The tooth flanks of adjacent teeth in normal section are each implemented as symmetrical to one another, the axis of symmetry intersecting the base circle in the base point. According to the invention, the tooth flanks are implemented in the tooth base area as a tangent function from a relevant diameter. The tangent function merges at the relevant diameter in a constant tangent into the tooth flank form of the useful area. The tangent function merges in the tooth base area in a constant tangent into an orbit, which is tangentially applied in the base point to the base circle. Significant increases of the tooth base strength may thus be achieved.

Abstract: Occurrence of teeth-knocking noises during meshing, attributed to backlash, is reduced. In addition, torque fluctuations, cracks, and overshooting are prevented by deformation of an overhanging section being performed smoothly. A thin-walled section is formed on one end face among two end faces of a tooth in a tooth-width direction. A portion of the thin-walled section is projected and formed so as to serve as an overhanging section. The overhanging section prevents backlash. Regarding a thickness T3 of the overhanging section, a thickness T2 of a tooth flank corresponding section, and a thickness T1 of a tooth crest corresponding section positioned therebetween, T1<T3<T2 is satisfied. The tooth crest corresponding section having the thinnest thickness T1 is easily deformed. Therefore, deformation of the overhanging section when meshing with a partner gear is performed smoothly without inhibition.

Abstract: A pitch transfer gear transmission which enables drive to be transmitted from a gear of having one modulus (42) to a gear having another modulus (46) includes at least two gears (12,16) which have a different number of teeth and which are able to rotate relative to one another, so that the teeth of the two gears (12,16) can form a gear modulus of a first value at one part of the periphery of the gear, and a gear modulus of another value at another part of the periphery of the gear. Continuously variable transmissions are formed by providing an input or output gear (42,46) which has a modulus which varies along the length of the gear. Pitch transfer gear assembly (30) engages with the input or output gear (42,46), and is moveable by a mechanism (59) along the length of the gear changing modulus, so as to set the drive ratio of the transmission.

  • Patent number: 6883397
Abstract: A gear made of a resin includes a substantially cylindrical rim having a plurality of teeth formed around an outer periphery thereof, a boss formed about a rotational center of the rim, and a web connecting the boss and the rim to each other. At least one groove is defined along outer surface of each tooth to divide the tooth in a widthwise direction of the tooth. As a result, a portion of the gear, in which the grooves are defined, is deformed in a reduced amount, leading to a reduced amount of deformation such as a warpage or sink in the entire gear, thereby providing an enhancement in tooth flank accuracy. Since the grooves are defined along the outer surfaces of the teeth, a lubricant such as grease can be supplied effectively to tooth flanks by previously applying the lubricant in the grooves.

Abstract: An optimally finished gear has a surface roughness between approximately 5 micro-inches Ra to 10 micro-inches Ra. The reduced surface roughness, when located at the gear teeth, can reduce the maximum contact stress by more than fifty percent. Similarly, the subsurface shear stress can be reduced by approximately thirty percent. The reduced contact stress and reduced shear stress results from improved lubrication conditions between the gear teeth. Surface roughness greater than 10 micro-inches Ra results in increased contact of the surface peaks, while surface roughness lower than 3 micro-inches is too smooth to retain adequate lubrication between the gear teeth.

Abstract: A noise-reduction structure for use with a meshing gear assembly includes a toothed disk that is supported on a first gear so as to be frictionally engaged therewith, but rotationally and radially movable relative thereto. The circumferential width of each tooth formed on the toothed disk is preferably larger than the circumferential width of each tooth formed on the first gear, and the outer diameter of the toothed disk can be larger than the outer diameter of the first gear. The first gear and the toothed disk mesh with a second gear such that as the second gear rotates, the toothed disk and the first gear also rotate. However, the toothed disk and the first gear rotate at different speeds because the difference in the number of teeth formed thereon. Because the teeth formed on the toothed disk have a larger circumferential thickness and a larger outer diameter than the teeth formed on the first gear, a tight meshing engagement with the second gear is provided.
