Abstract: A low friction shifter unit for automatic transmissions comprising a minimized number of readily assembled parts that features a roller bearing and spacer unit that is operatively positioned between a fixed gate plate and the tapered hub of a rotatable shifter member to support the rotatable shifter member for limited rotation in response to the manual operation of an associated transmission shift lever. The gate plate and shift cam are operatively held together by a single threaded fastener advanced along the rotational axis of the rotatable shifter member to a positive stop position established by the roller bearing unit so that manufacturing tolerance stack up is minimized enhancing quantity production of such shifter units.

Abstract: An agricultural tractor is provided with a steering column, a gearbox forming part of the vehicle drive train and having a selection lever and a gear change mechanism mounted on the steering column for remotely operating the selection lever of the gearbox. The gear change mechanism comprises a collar mounted for rotation about the axis of the steering column, a first bevel gear fast in rotation with the collar, a second bevel gear meshing with the first bevel gear and mounted for rotation about a fixed axis that extends generally radially from the steering column, a crank arm connected for rotation with the second bevel gear, and a flexible cable connecting the crank arm to the selection lever of the gearbox, the cable enabling the end of the selection lever to be pulled and pushed by rotation of the collar about the steering column.

Abstract: A vehicle shifter and method in one form involves tilting a shift lever relative to a steering wheel as the steering wheel is tilted and also raising and lowering the shift lever respectively as the steering wheel is raised and lowered.
