Abstract: Provided herein is a pedal assembly for a vehicle with an intermediate link releasably connected to an actuation link of a push rod. The push rod is connected to a pedal arm via the actuation link and the intermediate link. The intermediate link has two parallel links that are capable of movement from a first position to a second position during vehicle collision using a release lever. Upon rotation to its second position, the release lever disconnects and forces the parallel links of the intermediate link away from each other, thus disconnecting the push rod and pedal arm. Energy is prevented from being transmitted to the driver's foot, thereby reducing injury to the driver. An actuation mechanism, such as a reaction bracket, is mounted to a vehicle structure adjacent the release lever, and may actuate rotation of the lever.

Abstract: An apparatus for providing haptic feedback to an operator of a vehicle is described including a pedal, torque motor, actuator and controller. The pedal is rotatable between a closed position and an open position. The torque motor applies rotational force to the pedal. The actuator is rotatably positioned between the torque motor and pedal. The controller provides haptic feedback to the operator by sending a haptic signal via the torque motor, actuator and pedal in which rotational force is applied to the pedal to rotate the pedal toward the closed position.

Abstract: A pedal holding device includes: a four-bar linkage including four links and four joints that connect the four links. Two of the four joints serve as two fixed joints that are provided in a main body of the pedal holding device. One of the four links, which is not connected to the two fixed joints, serves as an intermediate link that is provided with a pedal, such that the pedal is not pivotable relative to the intermediate link. One of four internal angles each defined by corresponding adjacent two of the four links becomes not smaller than 180° at at least one moment in a period of movement of the pedal from its rearward end position to its forward end position. Non-adjacent two of the four links intersect with each other apparently when the pedal is positioned in one of the forward end position and the rearward end position.

Abstract: A pedal assembly using a non-contacting position sensor utilizing a spring-biased roller on a cam surface to simulate the feel of a conventional brake pedal is provided. The pedal assembly includes an elongated brake support bracket having a cam surface and a pedal arm having a spring-biased roller. A spring-biased roller assembly is mounted to an inward side or beside the pedal arm or on both sides of the pedal arm. The roller assembly includes a fixed leg extending on from an inner side of the pedal arm and a movable leg which is pivotally mounted to the pedal arm. A biasing member extends over the support between the fixed leg and movable leg to generate a biasing force against the roller. When the pedal is depressed, the roller is moved along the cam surface of the support bracket thereby creating the ‘feel’ of a traditional pedal assembly.

The eccentric shaft is connected with the knobs and has an eccentric part driven by the operational portion of one of the knobs. A user can turn one of the knobs by foot to drive the eccentric shaft to rotate, and then the eccentric part can selectively engage or disengage a hook of the pedal. Accordingly, the pedal securing device is easy to operate by foot and prevents a hand of the user from being contaminated.
