  • Patent number: 4817452
Abstract: The invention provides a simple method for reducing the amount of force required to actuate a motorcycle clutch. A miniature, lightweight housing means provides a pivot for a lever means to which is attached a short cable from the clutch actuation handle and also the original cable from the clutch. Because the two cable attachment points on the lever means are staggered, the lever means provides mechanical advantage and thereby reduces the manual force required to move the clutch actuation handle. The invention is designed to allow fast installation by providing cable slots in all parts and using cable sleeve tension to permit simple hook-on attachment of cable terminal hardware to the lever means. The housing means cover is used to exclude the environment and also to assure mechanical strength. The pivot pin and attachment hardware for anchoring the cables is locked into place by the covers.

  • Patent number: 4795120
Abstract: A supporting apparatus for moving an attachment apparatus, such as a display apparatus, relative to a basic apparatus, such as a printing apparatus, to a desired position for an operator. A vertical shaft for supporting the display apparatus can be shifted from an engaging position to a release position by the rocking operation of an operation member around its supporting shaft through a pivot pin projecting from the bottom portion of the vertical shaft. At the release position, the vertical shaft is allowed free rotation, which in turn sets the display apparatus to the desired swivel position. At the engaging position, a swivel positioning means is enabled so as to prevent the rotation of the vertical shaft, thus fixing the display apparatus at the set swivel position.

Abstract: A precessional foot exercising device utilizing a housing containing a spinning mass which forms the rotor of a motor for spinning the mass. The spin axis of the mass is perpendicular to upper and lower surfaces of the housing. A foot plate receives the foot to be exercised. The foot plate is mounted for rotation about two mutually orthogonal axes to provide two degrees of rotational freedom of the foot. The housing is coupled to the foot plate so that the upper and lower surfaces of the housing and therefore the spin axis are rotated by rotation of the foot plate caused by rotation of the foot detachably secured thereto. Rotational movement of the foot is opposed by the gyroscopic effect of the spinning mass, producing an isometric exercise effect when the foot plate is rotated by muscles of the foot while the precessional torque of the spinning mass is opposed by other muscles of the foot.

Abstract: A brake operating device mounted to a bicycle handle, in which a bracket having a first abutting member pivotally supports an operating lever having a second abutting surface for abutting the first abutting surface. Each abutting surface is formed in a circular arc centered at a position spaced from the pivot point of the lever relative to the bracket. The pivot point is shifted on the circumference of a circle which is concentric with the circular arcs forming the first and second abutting surfaces to adjust the grip dimension between the handle and the operating lever.

Abstract: A manipulator is provided for a surgical microscope in order to deflect a laser beam on the viewed operating area, the movement of a handle being transmitted via a lever mechanism to the movement of a mirror which reflects the laser beam to a point and via a path within the viewed operating area. The sensitivity of transmitted motion can be adapted to the selected magnification of the surgical microscope by changing the length of a transmission lever in order to change its point of motion pick-off from the handle.

  • Patent number: 4606412
Abstract: Paired, side-by-side sets of upper and lower sprocket wheels are commonly chain driven at similar speeds. Crank arms are pivotably mounted at their upper ends to the upper wheels of each set and project slidably through cylindrical bushings fixed to journals rotatably mounted to the lower wheel for rotation about the journal axes, radially displaced from the axis of rotation of the lower wheels. Tines are mounted to the lower ends of the crank arms for penetration into and extraction from the turf to aerate the turf. Machine propulsion is effected automatically as a result of driving the tines into the turf and retraction of the same. Holes at different radial positions within the upper and lower wheels permit the crank arms to be mounted to the upper wheels at different radial positions to control the depth of tine penetration into the turf.

  • Patent number: 4606411
Abstract: Paired, side by side sets of upper and lower wheels are connected together and driven by jack shafts pivotally mounted at respective ends to the upper and lower wheels of each set. One common shaft rotatably mounts the upper wheels, and a second shaft mounts the lower wheels for rotation about common axes to effect driving of the upper wheels and lower wheels in unison. The jack shafts joining the upper and lower wheels, respectively, of each set, are angularly offset to achieve desired timing and rotation of the wheels in unison and the sequence in projection and retraction of tines mounted through the jack shafts to the lower wheels of each set. The arrangement insures tine entry and retraction from the ground perpendicular to the ground. It also permits doubling the RPM of the wheels to increase the force driving the tines into the turf. Machine propulsion is effected automatically as a result of driving the tines in the ground and retraction of same.

Abstract: A railroad car with a hopper-type body may include a series of gate assemblies for selective discharge of commodity in the car body. Each gate assembly may have two pairs of doors which rotate to close or open respective outlet openings in the gate assembly. Door rotation is effected by an operating system comprising an air cylinder joined to a series of lever activating devices by a series of connecting rods. Each lever device includes a lever arm pinned to the connecting rods and rotatively carried on a shaft attached to a sill of the car. A crank arm of the device is also carried on the shaft and interacts with the lever arm through a pair of bolts threaded one each to the lever arm and crank arm. Ends of the device crank arms are pivotally secured by connecting bars to adjacent gate door pairs respectively.

Abstract: An apparatus for replaceably connecting a casting tube to a closable pouring spout of a tundish includes a gimbal device for supporting the casting tube and a double-arm lever including a first arm supporting the gimbal device and a second arm carrying a counterweight. The lever is supported about an axis such that the counterweight pivots the lever about the axis and causes the first arm and the gimbal device to press the casting tube against the mouth of the pouring spout. Supports are fixed to the tundish, a pin member defines the axis, and a mounting structure moves the pin member between an operative position pivotally supporting the lever on the supports and an inoperative position where the lever is released from the supports.

  • Patent number: 4574654
Abstract: A remotely controllable linear power actuator for the control of manually operable hydraulic valve handle or the like. A down-geared motor drives an adjustable friction slip clutch connected to a plate that can be rotated around the axis of the clutch by operation of the motor. A freely movable second plate is pivotally connected to the first elongated plate and the linearly movable output shaft is connected to the opposite end of the second plate. Thus, until the two plates are interconnected against pivotal rotation the output shaft which is connected to the valve handle may be easily moved manually. A solenoid interlock on one plate may be actuated to force the solenoid armature, or a steel ball driven by the armature, into a corresponding hole in the other plate to thereby connect the two plates at some point distant from the pivot pin.
