  • Patent number: 4901544
Abstract: A steering shaft assembly being composed of an upper part and a lower part. The lower part is cylindrical in shape and is rotatably received by a cylindrical outer housing with the upper part fixedly secured thereabove on the outer housing. The lower part is integral with a steering shaft. An engaging block assembly is freely rotatable and is longitudinally slidable within the steering shaft assembly between an upper limit position and a lower limit position. The engaging block assembly comprises an engaging block and an actuating block. A number of balls are disposed between the steering shaft assembly and the engaging block assembly as well as between the engaging block and the actuating block for transmitting rotational movement. A steering wheel is fixedly mounted on the engaging block assembly by a lock assembly which further controls releasing and engaging between the engaging block assembly and the steering shaft assembly.

  • Patent number: 4900043
Abstract: An axle wheel assembly is removably attached to the base of a suitcase by attaching a pair of brackets to opposite sides of the base of the suitcase. The upper edge of each bracket is provided with a downwardly extending slot. A pivotally mounted slot entrance cover is mounted on the bracket and is pivotal in one direction to cover the entrance to the slot to prevent the axle of the axle wheel assembly from falling out of the slot once the axle is inserted in the slot, and pivotal in another direction to open the entrance to the slot to permit the removal of the axle from the slot. The length of the axle is larger than the width of the suitcase so wheels of any size can be secured to the ends of the axle.

  • Patent number: 4872795
Abstract: A nut assembly comprises two end-to-end nuts threaded onto a screw and coupled by splines which prevent relative rotation between the nuts while permitting relative axial movement. A sleeve surrounds the nuts and is threaded onto one of the nuts. The other nut is formed with ratchet teeth adapted to fit into angularly spaced notches in the sleeve. When the sleeve is rotated relative to the nuts, it forces the nuts away from one another to take up backlash between the nuts and the screw. During such rotation, the teeth ratchet into and out of successive notches and ultimately prevent relative rotation between the sleeve and the nuts during normal service use.

Abstract: A rotatable shaft carries a hard plastic disc located in a housing. A braking member in the form of a steel washer is sandwiched between the plastic disc and a washer-like elastomeric spring which is compressed against an axially facing wall of the housing. • Patent number: 4763498
Abstract: The invention relates to a central locking installation having individual operating devices in each of which a push rod is longitudinally displaceable by means of a drive arrangement in the direction of a guide part formed by the housing of the operating device, while inhibitor means are provided for the inhibition of the displaceability of the push rod in one region of its displacement path. Thus without appreciable manufacturing expense it is achieved in the simplest manner that operating devices thus equipped can also be used at those locking points of a motor vehicle where merely in the manual pressing shut of this locking point a slight displacement of the push rod could occur which can result in unintended tripping of the microswitch and thus central locking of all locking points.

  • Patent number: 4753121
Abstract: A steering column having a pair of steering column members arranged coaxially about a first axis. One of the steering column members is axially movable along the first axis relative to the other steering column member. The steering column members are supported for angular movement about a second axis extending transverse to the first axis. A first lock releasably locks the members in one of a plurality of relative axial positions along the first axis. A second lock releasably locks the members in one of a plurality of angular positions about the second axis. A control lever is mounted for pivotal movement toward and away from a neutral position. An actuator operates in response to pivotal movement of the control lever away from the neutral position in a direction of desired movement of the one member to actuate one or both of the first and second locks to release the one member for movement to the desired position in the same direction in which the control lever is moved.

  • Patent number: 4751850
Abstract: A speed-change operating device for a bicycle includes an operating lever for actuating a derailleur, the operating lever being supported rotatably through a lever shaft to a base member attached to the bicycle frame. A friction mechanism applies to the lever an adjustable rotational resistance against a bias force of a return spring associated with the derailleur. A positioning mechanism includes a positioning member having a plurality of engaging portions for precisely setting the respective speed change stages of the derailleur and an engaging member engageable with at least one of the engaging portions. An operating mechanism selects between an operating mode and a non-operating mode of the positioning mechanism so that the positioning mechanism can be placed in a non-operating mode, when desired, with the speed-change operation being performed in such non-operating mode only with the friction mechanism resisting the return spring.

  • Patent number: 4735020
Abstract: A portable electric grinder wherein the grinding wheel is held against rotation relative to the spindle by two annular clamping rings. The spindle has a motor-driven hollow outer shaft and an inner shaft which is installed in the outer shaft and can be held against rotation with the outer shaft by a manually depressible arresting member. One of the clamping rings rotates with the hollow shaft and the other clamping ring mates with the inner shaft. When the inner shaft is held against rotation and the motor is started for a short interval of time, the hollow shaft rotates the one clamping ring which rotates the grinding wheel and the other clamping ring by friction so that the grip of the clamping rings upon the grinding wheel is loosened and the grinding wheel can be fully separated from the spindle by completing the unscrewing of the other clamping ring from the inner shaft. The motor drives the hollow shaft through the medium of a step-down transmission.

  • Patent number: 4723933
Abstract: A linear control latch assembly controls the clutching operation of a power take-off system. A driving means produces kinetic mechanical energy which is taken off by a power take-off means. Clutch means effects a union between the driving means and the power take-off means. A linear actuator operates the clutch means. The linear actuator is controlled by a crank arm cranked into operation by a control lever. The control lever is rotated before the crank arm rotates as a result of lost motion in the control system. The initial motion of the control lever is translated into a camming action that unlatches a latch plate prior to the rotation of the crank arm. When the latch plate is unlatched, it unlatches the crank arm to allow release of the clutch that effects the union between the driving means and the power take-off means.
