Patent number: 4716783Abstract: An intermittent gear wheel lock mechanism includes major engaging portions and secondary engaging portions formed on one surface of an intermittent gear wheel and spaced by a predetermined distance. When an unlock lever is inserted, and a lock member is detached from the major engaging portion, the lock member is moved to the movement path of the secondary engaging portion while the unlock member remains in the inserted position, so that the lock member engages the secondary engaging portion which reaches there as the intermittent gear wheel rotates, and locks the intermittent gear wheel unrotatable. When the unlock lever returns to its original position, the lock member moves from the secondary engaging portion to the movement path of the major engaging portion and engages same to lock the intermittent gear wheel unrotatable.Type: GrantFiled: April 10, 1986Date of Patent: January 5, 1988Assignee: Clarion Co., Ltd.Inventor: Hideki Hayashi

Patent number: 4495834Abstract: An adjustable steering assembly for vehicles pivotable forwardly and rearwardly about upper and lower pivots, the upper pivot being operably connected to the steering column by a swingable link which is adapted to actuate along said steering column an axially slidable adjustment sleeve assembly. The sleeve assembly includes a manually adjustable spring actuator for adjusting axially of the steering column the position of a detent device which in turn allows angular adjustment of the steering column for the comfort of operators of different sizes and heights and to provide a fully forward tilted position at which improved access to vehicle components is provided.Type: GrantFiled: February 22, 1982Date of Patent: January 29, 1985Assignee: Clark Equipment CompanyInventors: James J. Patent number: 4489525Abstract: A replaceable spindle locking system for a power tool enables an operator to replace a lock member without disassembling the tool. An externally-accessible retaining member, such as a washer, is trapped between a ledge located in a housing recess and a shoulder formed on the lock member, which is normally spring-biased out of engagement with a driven member. The coaction of these elements simultaneously and releasably normally retains both the lock member and the retaining member connected to the housing. When it is desired to replace the lock member, the operator depresses the lock member against the urging of the spring until the lock member is out of retaining engagement with the retaining member. Then the retaining member is slideably moved out of engagement with the lock member, thereby allowing the operator to quickly remove it.Type: GrantFiled: August 11, 1983Date of Patent: December 25, 1984Assignee: Black & Decker Inc.Inventor: Edward A. Patent number: 4487174Abstract: An engine starter comprises a flywheel relatively rotatably mounted on the engine crank shaft and an electromagnetically operated clutch for selectively connecting and disconnecting the flywheel and the crank shaft. The rotational energy of the engine started by any conventional starter is stored in the flywheel which keeps rotating when the flywheel is disconnected from the crank shaft, and the stored energy in the rotating flywheel can be used to crank the engine.Type: GrantFiled: November 1, 1983Date of Patent: December 11, 1984Assignee: Mitsubishi Denki Kabushiki KaishaInventor: Shuuzo Isozumi

Patent number: 4484510Abstract: A fluid motor comprising a piston and cylinder combination includes mechanism for locking an output shaft which is helically displaceable along its longitudinal axis upon actuation of the piston. The locking mechanism includes a locking element driven by a fluid operated motor for displacement in a direction transverse to and spaced from the longitudinal axis of the shaft, and a notch in the shaft for receiving the locking element, the notch and locking element have mating surfaces which are inclined with respect to the longitudinal axis of the shaft and transverse to the shaft's helical path of travel. The locking element motor comprises the piston and cylinder chamber defined within a body upon which there is also mounted a cam guide for guiding a cam member which is secured to the shaft on the opposite side of the notch. The locking element is secured to and extends transversely of the locking piston into an opening within the body adjacent the shaft.Type: GrantFiled: September 1, 1982Date of Patent: November 27, 1984Inventor: Paul M. Patent number: 4483589Abstract: An indexing mechanism for an optical instrument, such as a microscope, includes a support, a rotatable assembly having a plurality of detents, and a fixed member and a rotating wheel mounted to a spring. The non-rotating member is adapted to engage the detent formed in a flange on the nosepiece shell to provide positive and accurate alignment between the support and the rotatable assembly. When the rotatable assembly is rotated relative to the support, the rotating wheel engages the flange and provides for essentially friction-free rotation between detents. By insulating the spring and rotating wheel, the indexing mechanism may be used as a switch to control an electrical function of the optical instrument.Type: GrantFiled: December 9, 1982Date of Patent: November 20, 1984Assignee: Bausch & Lomb IncorporatedInventor: Henry J. Patent number: 4479401Abstract: A plurality of lock bolts are flexibly stacked in a frame at a lesser angle above the horizontal than the frame is slidably mounted in a rack and pinion jack-up rig's horizontal part. The steeper frame mounting angle reduces sliding friction by the vertical component of gravity. The flatter mounting angle of the lock bolts increases bolt locking efficiency that is a maximum at the horizontal. Free ends of the lock bolts project beyond the frame and are adapted to engage and disengage with the rack of the rack and pinion jack-up rig, the rack being oppositely mounted on the vertical part thereof. The frame is slidably actuated by an hydraulic cylinder pivoted to the horizontal part and the frame. The projecting free ends are roughly wedge shaped for engaging with the rack, and have arcuate lower engaging surfaces and flat upper engaging surfaces, the last of which extend from respective vertical abutments to define a steeper angle than opposing rack engaging surfaces.Type: GrantFiled: October 23, 1981Date of Patent: October 30, 1984Inventor: Mehmet D. Patent number: 4473203Abstract: The invention relates to a control column (2) for a copilot of an aircraft, coupled for control of roll and pitch by a linkage (5) to the pilot's control column (1). This linkage comprises two parallel rods (6,7) pivoted on the one hand to the column (1) and on the other hand to a member (13) connected to the column (2) by a double universal joint (14, 17). When operative, the column (2) is locked to the member (13) by a lock bolt (19). This control column can be put out of action by releasing the said bolt and can be secured by hooking to a fixed point, in which case the double universal joint (14, 17) ensures its disconnection from the column (1) and thus prevents any misoperation.Type: GrantFiled: April 5, 1983Date of Patent: September 25, 1984Assignee: Societe Nationale Industrielle et AerospatialeInventors: Pierre Barnoin, Jacques M. Patent number: 4471338Abstract: A push-to-turn thermal cycling switch for regulating the wattage of a resistance type surface heating unit of a domestic cooking range of the electric type is disclosed. The duty cycle of the heating unit, and thus its heat output is regulated by the switch cycling on and off in accordance with movement of a switch-contained bimetallic element heated by current flowing to the heating unit via the switch. The switch cycling is determined by the position of a disc cam member carried on an axially shiftable, user-rotatable shaft having a detent means for rotatably locking the shaft at an "off" position. The shaft is formed in a single step die-casting operation. A latch secured disc cam retainer facilitates machine assembly of the switch components.Type: GrantFiled: June 2, 1982Date of Patent: September 11, 1984Assignee: White Consolidated Industries, Inc.Inventor: Calvin J.
