  • Patent number: 8424846
Abstract: An overload warning system for a winch hoist of the type that includes a drum that rotates about a drum shaft, a handle that is received in a socket, wherein the handle can be used to turn the drum, and a movable frame that is located between the socket and the housing. The socket is coupled to the drum shaft. There is a shear pin with one end embedded in the frame and the other end embedded in the socket, the shear pin defining a relatively weak shear zone located between the frame and the socket. There is an elongated opening defined in the socket and a projection projecting from the frame and into or through the elongated opening. If the shear pin fails under rotational load applied through the handle, the socket will rotate relative to the frame until the edge of the elongated opening contacts the projection. The socket movement provides tactile feedback that the shear pin has failed, while maintaining control over the hoist operation via the handle.

Abstract: A hose reel having a lower frame assembly with two side frame assemblies and a handle assembly with arms that are disposed in-line with the side frame assemblies is provided. The handle assembly includes two annular couplings, one disposed at the distal end of each handle assembly arm. The annular couplings include a circular opening. These openings may be disposed about the axis of rotation of a basket assembly, about which the hose is wound, and/or the rotational coupling between the basket assembly and the frame assembly. Having a handle assembly coupling at this location reduces the amount of torque between the handle assembly and the frame assembly when the hose reel is being pushed/pulled. Further, as the handle assembly arms are in line with the side frame assemblies, this configuration is generally considered more attractive than the offset handles of the prior art.

  • Patent number: 7194930
Abstract: A handle for a window operator. The handle includes a handle member 10 pivotally coupled to a base 11. A locking mechanism releasably locks the handle member 10 in a position relative to the base 11 which corresponds to an in-use position of the handle member. The locking mechanism includes a locking member 14 within the handle member 10. The locking member 14 performs a blocking action to prevent pivotal movement of the handle member relative to the base. The locking member has a push button 15 accessible to an exterior surface of the handle member whereby the locking member can be moved to remove the blocking action and allow the handle to be pivoted to a non-use position.

  • Patent number: 7114705
Abstract: A lock/release mechanism for the crank handle of a winch consists of a set of one or more pins that are captured within the drive head of the handle. Within the drive head is an actuation rod, which acts on these pins. Depending on the position of the rod, the pins are either moved or pushed outward (lock position), or retracted into the drive head (unlock position). The actuation rod is moved by means of a lever that enables removal of the crank handle with one hand.

  • Patent number: 7070137
Abstract: A handle assembly is detachably screwed onto a master gear shaft, on which a master gear is provided. The handle assembly includes an approximately T-shaped handle grip, a handle arm on which the handle grip is rotatively mounted, and a handle shaft on which the base of the handle arm is mounted. The handle shaft has a three piece structure including a tubular main shaft unit, a first shaft portion that is screwed onto one end of the main shaft unit and the master gear shaft, and a second shaft portion that is mounted on the other end of the main shaft unit and the base of the handle arm. In a screw type handle assembly for a spinning reel, it is possible to maintain rigidity of the handle shaft at a high level while reducing the overall weight of the handle shaft.

  • Patent number: 6983906
Abstract: A master gear includes a shaft made of an aluminum alloy, a gear portion, and an annular member made of stainless steel alloy. The shaft is screwed onto a handle shaft, a gear portion that is integrally formed on the outer periphery of the shaft. The shaft is supported by the reel unit at rotational support portions via bearings and has female threaded portions on its ends such that the handle is screwed to one of the female threaded portions. The gear portion is arranged on an outer periphery of the shaft portion between the rotational support portions, and meshes with a pinion gear. The annular portion is mounted to the outer periphery of the shaft such that at least part of the annular member is disposed not between the rotational support portions. With this structure, it is easy to remove bearings from a master gear of a spinning reel.

  • Patent number: 6916143
Abstract: A speed handle for use in combination with a strap winch on a flat bed trailer. The straps used to secure loads on trailers can be 30 to 40 feet in length. There is no good way to wind these straps onto their winch when they are not in use. Currently the job is done by hand which is very slow and tedious. The speed handle engages a lug of the winch and allows the strap to be wound back onto the winch very quickly. The speed handle allows the winding to occur with only one hand so that another hand is free to guide the strap onto the winch drum.

The retracted position of said extendable arm being equal to or within the diameter of the winch. In its retracted position, the extendable arm is shaped in a fashion that does not interfere with the operation of the winch while the handle is not needed. The extended position of the extendable arm is longer than the diameter of the standard winch and is useful for turning the winch. The winch handle may also have a grip.
