Hand Crank Patents (Class 74/545)
  • Patent number: 4890506
Abstract: A hand lever in particular for actuating a butterfly valve or the like in pipelines includes an outer lever portion which encases an inner lever portion and is movable in longitudinal direction thereof relative to the latter. At its forward end, the inner lever portion is fixedly connected with an element, such as an operating shaft which is operatively connected to the valve. The outer lever portion is provided with projections which are engagable in a stationary toothed wheel supported by the shaft. The movement of the outer lever portion for engaging in or disengaging the projection from the toothed wheel is obtained by a control grip which is swingably mounted to the inner lever portion and acts on the outer lever portion via a nose.

  • Patent number: 4821597
Abstract: An operating crank for a window regulator mechanism includes a one piece molded handle having a visible side and a non-visible side when mounted at one end to a driven mechanism. A knob is rotatably attched to the visible side of the other end of the handle by an attachment located generally in the area where the knob is gripped by an operator. The attachment includes a series of molded ribs on a shank which extends axially from the visible side of the handle and which rotate within a groove inside the knob. The knob retention ribs extend radially of the shank and are molded integrally to the shank by means of a die insert receivable through access slots defined through the knob end of the handle from the non-visible side of the handle, giving access to the coplanar bottom surfaces of the knob retention ribs. The retention ribs may thereby be molded without leaving a visible parting line on the visible side of the handle.

  • Patent number: 4641866
Abstract: The invention comprises a lever handle having a handle-shaft receiving cam which is used to displace a slider to effect the retraction of a latchbolt. A yoke is positioned between the cam and slider to accommodate, adjustably, for handle droop. The yoke has a tapped hole and receives a machine screw which also penetrates an arcuate slot in the slider. Displacement of the yoke relative to the slot, corrects the handle droop by causing the cam to be slightly tilted. Accordingly, the handle shaft in the cam is correspondingly rotated about its axis, and the handle is brought into alignment with the horizontal.

  • Patent number: 4216838
Abstract: Apparatus for compacting or consolidating a strip of road surfacing material essentially comprises a self-propelled compacting machine and a guide vehicle. The guide vehicle has a steerable wheel and a set of drive wheels. The compacting machine is guided for orbital movement around the guide vehicle at a preset turning radius. The guide vehicle may be self-propelled in which case it carries its own motor for driving its driving shaft. Preferably the guide vehicle is driven for progressive displacement along the strip of surfacing material in response to the turning of a coupling bar, connecting the compacting machine with the guide vehicle about its end for determining the turning radius of the former. The coupling bar in turn rotatably drives the driving shaft of the guide vehicle which in turn drives the drive wheels of the guide vehicle through a power transmission.

  • Patent number: 4138765
Abstract: Method for making a thermoplastic resin handle for vehicle door and the resultant handle. The handle includes a handle body of the thermoplastic resin and a sheet metal covering the body. The metal sheet is secured to the face of the handle body by means of a plurality of projections in the back face of the sheet metal. Each projection is embedded in the layer of the resin of the handle body throughout its entire length to provide a better grip thereby. In the steps for embedding the projection in the resin body, supersonic waves are applied to the sheet metal to cause frictional vibrational movement relative to the handle body and to, in turn, cause heat sufficient to melt a zone of the body necessary to plunge each projection into the handle body.

  • Patent number: 3941010
Abstract: A safety handle is provided for manually rotating a motor shaft for a stone grinding mill. One end of the handle is curved to encompass a portion of the shaft periphery. A hook at the end of the curved portion fits into the keyway of the shaft. The handle arm extends radially from the shaft with a hand grip at the end opposite the curved portion. When torque is applied to the handle in the direction of normal motor rotation, the curved portion and hook grip the shaft by rotational leverage and transmit the torque to the shaft. If the motor is inadvertently started with the handle on the shaft, inertia and gravity will cause the handle to disengage and roll off from the shaft to prevent damage and injury. The hand grip is attached to the handle so as to allow only manual rotation of the shaft in the normal motor direction. Alternately, the handle is bent transverse to its longitudinal axis to extend outward from the motor and thus enable rotation only when mounted properly on the shaft.
