  • Patent number: 6101888
Abstract: A driving member (15) of piston type has an upper side, on which an annular holder (28), upper and lower cams (31), (32), and a transmission sleeve (33) are arranged in order. An annular wedge space (35) is defined between the upper and lower cams (31) and (32). A plurality of wedging members (36) are inserted into the wedge space (35) and peripherally spaced apart at a predetermined distance. When the driving member (15) is driven upward, first a plurality of engaging balls (41) supported by the transmission sleeve (33) engage with a lower portion of a pull rod (12) and then a pushing surface (38) of the driving member (15) vertically separates the cams (31),(32) from each other through the wedging members (36). Thus the lower cam (32) drives the pull rod (12) downward through the transmission sleeve (33) and the engaging balls (41).

  • Patent number: 6032922
Abstract: A fluid flow control valve is provided comprising a valve seat inside a housing for defining a passage opening in the housing and a valve seal positioned against the valve seat for closing off fluid flow. A push rod extends from the valve seal and through the passage opening. The push rod is moveable for moving the valve seal off the seat to open the valve. The valve seal is restricted to substantially axial movement, preferably by a spring biasing the valve seal against the valve seat which spring is sized so as to engage the walls of the passage. A cam shaft rotatably mounted in the housing is provided for moving the push rod upon rotation of the cam shaft. A handle is non-rotatably connected to the shaft for rotating the cam shaft. A latch may be provided for releasably locking the handle in a position where the valve is open. A safety may also be provided on the latch arm so as to prevent the handle from being moved accidentally.

  • Patent number: 5488769
Abstract: A cam assembly and method for providing a substantially constant load to a motor that drives the cam assembly. A torque compensated cam assembly (142,300) includes a plurality of tracks (140,150,152/310,312,314) that are profiled with a surface that varies radially as the cam rotates, thereby actuating cam followers, each of which rolls along a different track. A tangential force developed by the cam followers as they move over rapid radial changes in the surfaces of the tracks produces a total net torque that at times tends to aid the rotation of the cam and at times tends to impede its rotation. In the application of the torque compensated cam assembly disclosed, the cam is used in a volumetric pump (30) that accurately delivers a desired volume of fluid at a desire rate. To assist in maintaining the accuracy of these parameters, the torque compensated cam assembly presents a substantially constant load to a motor (146,304) that drives the cam.

  • Patent number: 5437420
Abstract: A system and related method is provided for rapidly repointing spacecraft through the application of a high torque, of a gyroscope in which braking means (20, 22) provided on a gimbal (16, 18) is actuated simultaneously with the actuation of the torque motor (24, 26) to achieve amplification of the control moment imparted to the gyroscope (10). Because only one brake (20, 22) may be actuated at a time in a double gimbal gyroscope system having a single spin wheel (12), actuation of the brake ( 20, 22) for each of the two axes is sequential. However in a system having redundant torque motors (24, 26), re-pointing of the spacecraft may be achieved using the simultaneous braking and torque application method of the present invention without increasing the repointing time by applying torque to a gimbal (16) rotating about one axis of the first spin wheel (12) at the same time that torque is applied to a gimbal (18) rotating around the orthogonal axis of the redundant spin wheel (12).

  • Patent number: 4849097
Abstract: A mechanical drive mechanism is designed for imparting pivotal motion to the frame arm or walking beam of a mineral jig. Rotary cam action is employed to mechanically pivot the walking beam or frame arm which supports a cone and flexible diaphragm at one end for imparting jigging action to the jig bed. Adjustment features are preferably provided to enable the amplitude of the reciprocating motion imparted to the diaphragm and cone to be selectively varied. In the preferred embodiment, the cam is constructed to be pivotal when at rest for enabling the amplitude of the camming action, and correspondingly the pivot stroke, to be varied.

  • Patent number: 4791327
Abstract: A drive mechanism for a domestic vibration-type apparatus is provided, in which the rotor shaft (19) of a single-phase synchronous motor drives a cam-and-follower mechanism which converts the rotary motion of the rotor into a vibratory motion, the rotor and the stator having a main field direction (22) and (16), respectively. The longitudinal axis of the mirror-symmetrical cam extends at an angle to the main field direction (22) of the rotor. Rollers (31, 31a) which follow the cam (21) are arranged on a pivotal arm which is pivot about its central portion and a vibratory part (39) to be driven is arranged on the driving end (35) of this pivotal arm. As they cooperate with the cam the rollers are constantly in contact with the cam profile.

A yoke is positioned between the cam and slider to accommodate, adjustably, for handle droop. The yoke has a tapped hole and receives a machine screw which also penetrates an arcuate slot in the slider. Displacement of the yoke relative to the slot, corrects the handle droop by causing the cam to be slightly tilted. Accordingly, the handle shaft in the cam is correspondingly rotated about its axis, and the handle is brought into alignment with the horizontal.

  • Patent number: 4620888
Abstract: An apparatus and method for applying tubular labels to a product container at a labeling station including a reciprocally movable labeling assembly. The assembly is adjustably secured to carriage that is mounted for reciprocating movement at the labeling station. A drive system including a drive cam defining an asymetrical profile is operatively coupled to the carriage by a lever arrangement including a cam follower driven by the drive cam. The profile of the drive cam is configured to have a steep rise and a gradual drop so that the average speed at which the labeling assembly is driven through a label applying strobe is substantially less than the speed at which the assembly is driven through a return stroke thus reducing the stress applied to the label as it is installed. A fluid pressure operated actuator pressurized to a first predetermined pressure exerts a biasing force on the lever to urge the cam follower into contact with the drive cam.
