  • Patent number: 6718838
Abstract: A rotary drive mechanism for use with a timer/sequence switch in an appliance is presented. The mechanism converts linear motion from a cam tracker following a programmed cam track to rotary motion to drive a vent damper in an appliance. The rotary motion output is derived as a multiple of the input linear motion through a gear set. This input linear motion is translated to rotary motion imparted to a tracking rod, which is coupled through the gear set to an output actuating rod. Tracking by a tracking lobe is accommodated by a spring bias force applied though a bias lobe that counteracts the force applied by the cam track. Alternatively, tracking by a tracker is accommodated by a spring bias force applied through a torque arm of the tracking rod that also counteracts the force applied by the cam track.

  • Patent number: 5601416
Abstract: A wave cam type compressor is described. Cylindroid blocks are provided to support a drive shaft and to contain a plurality of cylinder bores centered around the drive shaft. A wave cam attached to the drive shaft has cam surfaces on the front side and the rear side. The cam surfaces are composed of convex surfaces only. Pistons in the cylindroid blocks are operated by the wave cam through shoes. Each shoe has a spherical surface and a flat surface. The spherical surface is fitted in a recess formed on the piston, while the flat surface makes line contact with the cam surface of the wave cam. The shoes move relative to the wave cam on a predetermined circular path on the cam surfaces. The rotation of the wave cam together with the drive shaft is converted to reciprocating motions of the pistons in the cylinder bores with the aid of the shoes and wave cam, thus achieving compression of a fluid supplied to the cylinder bores.

  • Patent number: 5116147
Abstract: An anti-blockage bearing for use in rotary core drilling of rock or other hard earth. Situated between the upper end of a freely suspended core barrel assembly and the core barrel coupling, the invention consists of spherical bearings retained within an upper and a lower annular housing, one or both of which are provided with a thrust race comprising a plurality of indentations and intervening ridges. During normal drilling, the core barrel is freely suspended within the outer tube of the lower end of the drill string. In the event of blockage, the core barrel will automatically be pushed upwards causing the thrust race of the lower housing member to bias the bearings against the thrust race of the upper housing member. As the bearings encounter the ridges and indentations of the thrust races, a jarring vibration action is imparted to the core barrel, dislodging the blockage.

  • Patent number: 4289041
Abstract: A device for driving a tool with a reciprocating motion utilizing a rotary electric or pneumatic hand drill as a power source. The device includes a main shaft adapted to be held in a three-jaw chuck of a hand drill and having a concentric sleeve-like rear eccentric attached thereto. The shaft is arranged to rotate in a bearing in a handle frame. A forward sleeve-like eccentric is disposed on the forward end of the main shaft and adapted to slide forward and backward on the main shaft, and on a guide rod parallel to the main shaft, having a compression spring and attached to the handle frame. The front end of the forward eccentric is internally threaded to accept a tool-holding chuck. In operation, the main shaft is attached to a power hand drill which rotates the shaft. The rear eccentric rotates against the forward eccentric causing it to reciprocate and drive a tool held in a front chuck.

  • Patent number: 4229981
Abstract: When the hammer drill spindle and chuck are driven forward with the mode selection collar positioned to allow axial movement of the chuck and spindle, the annular ratchet is driven by the spindle through a one way roller clutch so it rides up the sloping surfaces of the fixed annular ratchet and then drops off the tooth corners to deliver a hammer blow of a magnitude determined by the operator pushing on the tool. If the rotation is reversed the clutch prevents rotation of the clutch input and prevents injury to the operator. If the selection collar is moved to lock the lugs in the detent notch of the cam surface the drill can be rotated either direction with the hammer action always locked out.

  • Patent number: 4187762
Abstract: An apparatus providing for the generation, control and application of power to a cyclic functioning machine, using fluids under pressure to transmit and control energy by means of a rotary, segmented cam wheel. The cam wheel provides a plurality of interchangeable segments formed into a rim portion with axially spaced complementary counteracting cam faces formed about opposite rim ends. An individual cam follower, carried on a piston rod of a related hydraulic cylinder, coacts with each of the cam faces to accurately regulate the flow of hydraulic fluid to and from a working cylinder of a machine to provide timed and synchronized machine functions through the control movement of the working cylinder. The contoured configuration of the cam faces are arranged to provide for a desired acceleration and retardation of machine motions. Further, variable speed drive means, employed to drive the cam wheel, provides a timing adjustment between machine cycles.

  • Patent number: 4105368
Abstract: A hydraulic power source for harnessing energy generated by the wave motion of a body of water. A primary or main float has a plurality of secondary or satellite floats spaced outwardly therefrom. The secondary floats are each attached to one end of a plurality of lever arms, the other ends thereof being attached to a plurality of rotatable shafts carried by the primary float so that up/down motion of the lever arms is translated into rotational motion of the shafts. When placed upon a body of water, the wave motion causes the secondary floats to be displaced upwardly or downwardly relative to the primary float. The motion of the secondary floats is translated by the generally vertical movement of the lever arms to the shafts to rotate the shafts. The rotational motion of the shafts is translated into linear motion within the primary float by means of interacting cam surfaces which activate pistons of linear pumps.
