  • Patent number: 4557161
Abstract: The present invention provides an infinitely variable rotary drive transmission having an input member and an output member rotatably mounted to a housing. A slide is linearly reciprocally mounted to the housing in a direction substantially radial with respect to the axis of the input member. The input member rotatably drives an articulated shaft which is connected to the slide by rods so that the input member reciprocally linearly drives the slide. The slide in turn is connected to and rotatably drives the output member through a pair of cooperating clutch assemblies. A bottle screw varies the degree of articulation of the articulated shaft which, in turn, varies the stroke of the slide per revolution of the input shaft to thereby vary the rotational speed of the output member. A shift assembly is operable to reverse the direction of rotation of the output member as desired.

  • Patent number: 4485768
Abstract: A yoke type engine wherein the orbital path of the slider is alterable to effect piston stroke and compression ratio changes. A crank component has a crankpin which carries and positions the slider. A boss of the crank component is carried by a control shaft in an offset manner. Timing gears normally drive the control shaft in synchronization with the crankshaft to maintain a constant stroke and compression ratio. Relocation of certain timing gears by an actuator causes the control shaft to rotationally advance or retard to reposition the crank component carried thereby to in turn alter the orbital path of the coaxial crankpin and slider relative to a crankshaft axis. Accordingly, high and low compression orbits for the slider may be effected to best suit engine loads. A variable length throw couples the slider to the crankshaft. The orbital path of the slider provides increased crankshaft leverage over conventional engine arrangements.

  • Patent number: 3992957
Abstract: The rotary drive unit for forming or punch presses and the like has an interposed relation between the drive shaft of the press and the face plate to which the reciprocating rack is pivotally secured. One end of a link member is pivotally connected to an eccentric crank pin carried by a drive ring fixed to the drive shaft and rotated thereby, and the other end of the link member is pivotally connected to a second eccentric crank pin carried by a circular disc member mounted for rotation in a housing provided by the press, the disc member having a center of rotation spaced a distance from the axis of rotation of the drive shaft. With the drive shaft rotating at uniform speed, the disc member functions as a driven member and rotates at a speed which is non-uniform. More specifically the face plate will rotate to impart a complete feeding stroke of 180.degree. to the rack for a minor portion of each revolution of the press drive shaft followed by a complete return stroke of the rack of 180.degree.

  • Patent number: 3974705
Abstract: A mechanism for moving a cross slide in a multiple-spindle automatic machine has a rotary face cam which is driven by a gear and is angularly adjustable with respect to the gear, a first lever which is pivotable on a first shaft parallel to the axis of the cam and which has a first arm carrying a roller follower for the cam and a second arm having a slot for a sliding block which is mounted on a pin-shaped carrier. The carrier extends through one or more slots of a second lever which is rigid with a second shaft, and the carrier can be fixed to the second shaft in a selected position by means of washers and nuts. The second shaft is rigid with a gear segment which meshes with a toothed rack affixed to and adjustable lengthwise of the slide. The first lever may be a bell crank lever or a straight two-armed lever, and the second lever may have a single arm with a single slot for the carrier of the sliding block or a bifurcated arm with two aligned slots for the carrier.
