Wabbler Type Patents (Class 74/60)
  • Patent number: 6968751
Abstract: This invention relates to internal combustion engines with cylinders arranged parallel to the main shaft and where reciprocating movements of the pistons are converted to rotation by means of a Z-crank mechanism and motion converter, or conversely to systems such as pumps and compressors wherein rotation of the Z-crank and motion converter produces reciprocating motions of the pistons. The motion converter is prevented from rotation by a reaction control shaft or by a gear train. Connecting rods are prevented from rotating about their long axes. Double-ended configurations can be either opposed cylinder or opposed piston, and may include multiple pairs of pistons with each pair in a common cylinder. The Z-crank may be moved axially for the purpose of varying the compression ratio. Variation of the compression ratio is controlled by an engine control unit and is adjusted to optimize engine performance under varying loads and other conditions.

Abstract: A variable compression piston assembly includes a plurality of pistons, a transition arm coupled to each of the pistons, and a rotating member mounted for pivoting movement to slide along an axis of the drive member. Movement of the rotating member relative to the drive member changes the compression ratio of the piston assembly. An engine assembly includes first and second piston assemblies mounted back-to-back and 180° out of phase. A joint for positioning between first and second pistons includes an outer member and an inner member. The outer member is configured for movement relative to the pistons along a first axis perpendicular to the common axis of the pistons. • Patent number: 6626054
Abstract: A rolling element or ball swashplate has a part-spherical surface covered in latitudinal grooves and ridges, in cross-section resembling parts of a spur gear wheel. The ball is mounted on a well-known rolling element bearing on its polar axis. The bearing and ball are carried on shaft so that the axis is at an angle to that of the shaft. Rotation of the latter causes the ball to precess. Cylindrical racks have circumferential teeth along their length (equivalent to a screw thread with a zero helix angle) which mesh with the ridges and grooves on the spherical ball surface. The racks may slide on rods, or may commonly form part of a larger component such as an hydraulic piston which itself moves bodily. As shaft rotates, the meshing ridges and teeth cause linear motion of the racks, or vice versa. At any time, the ball and racks may rotate about their respective axes, moving the meshing contact point to different parts of the same teeth and distributing the wear evenly.

By choosing an appropriate value for this offset distance, a characteristic curve of piston top clearance relative to change of oblique angle of the swash plate remains at a value of about zero over a relevant range of the oblique angle of the swash plate. As a result, volumetric efficiency of the compressor is effectively improved.

  • Patent number: 6548926
Abstract: The subject of the invention is a linear displacement actuator which includes a male part and a female part. One part includes a screw thread and the other part includes at least one peripheral rib which collaborates with the screw thread. The inside diameter of the female part, increased by the depth of the screw thread, is greater than the outside diameter of the male part. The female part bears linear actuators arranged at right angles in a support and is free to be displaced axially with respect to the male part. The linear actuators place the female part in sinusoidal vibration in two perpendicular directions with an appropriate phase shift between the vibrations, and displaces, rotation-wise, the line of contact between the screw thread and the at least one peripheral rib. The screw thread and the peripheral rib remain motionless in terms of rotation and therefore bring about relative linear displacement of the female part and of the male part.

The main drive shaft is configured to engage a wobble mechanism that provides the reciprocating linear action to the tool's working end. One of a first stroke and a second stroke is provided to the working end of the tool by the wobble mechanism. When rotation of the main drive shaft occurs in a first direction, the working end is provided with a first stroke. Furthermore, when rotation of the main drive shaft occurs in a second direction, the working end is provided with a second stroke. Elements used for adjusting the stroke length are placed on one axis only.

  • Patent number: 6098519
Abstract: A drive part for converting rotational movement in a fuel pump to the wobble movement includes the shaft for transmitting an outside drive force, the swash plate rotated by the shaft and the wobble plate for converting the rotational movement of the swash plate to the wobble movement. Plural pistons are reciprocated in response to the wobble movement of the wobble plate. The crank room containing the swash plate, the wobble plate and the piston are separated into the fuel room and the drive room by bellows. The bearings for transmitting the drive force between the shaft in the drive room and the swash plate, and the bearing for transmitting the drive force between the swash plate and the wobble plate are placed inside the drive room in order to lubricate the bearings. By arranging plural pistons inside the fuel room, the fuel is forced to be taken in and discharged by the reciprocating movement of the individual pistons.
