Abstract: A protective cover for a zone of a machine with moving parts, in which the machine comprises a mobile machining part which moves along an operating path, preferably extending in a single plane. The protective cover comprises a first set of cover elements, which are connected to the machining part in such a way that they can move, extending away from one another so as to cover the zone and overlapping one another along a trajectory of the machining part, and a second set of cover elements, which are connected to machining part in such a way that they can move, extending away from one another so as to cover the zone and overlapping one another along a trajectory of the machining part which is different to the trajectory of the cover elements of the first set, in such a way that when the machining part moves along its operating path it draws the first and second cover means along the respective trajectory, ensuring that the zone to be covered remains covered.

  • Patent number: 5916334
Abstract: A bottom guard for a machine having a plate with a hinged side pivotably attached to a first frame member of a machine and a catch side opposite the hinged side releasably held near a second frame member by a latching device. The plate holds debris from the operation of the machine and serves as a safety guard. The latching device has a first portion attached to the second frame member and a second portion attached to the catch side of the plate. The two portions of the latching device mechanically interlock and a solenoid actuated mechanism releases them upon a remote signal to the solenoid which allows the catch side of the plate to move by gravity, thereby opening the guard and discharging accumulated debris to a side of the machine. At least one shock absorbing device, such as an elastomeric shock cord, a pneumatic cylinder, or a hydraulic cylinder limits the amount that the plate will swing open when the catch is released and cushions the plate as it falls open.

Abstract: A safety bar mechanism and sheet processing device having a safety bar mechanism, with which such an accident that the operator's hand is pinched between a table and peripheral devices etc. can be positively avoided whatever direction an external force exerts. The safety bar mechanism is disposed, for example, above the table on which a sheet is stacked, and comprises detector means the upper end of which is supported on a fixed part such that the detector means pivots freely in forward/backward directions and has play in upward/downward directions. When an external force works on the detector means, thereby moving the detector means upwards, forwards or backwards, a switching means is so operated as to at least stop the upward movement of the table.
