  • Patent number: 10786249
Abstract: A surgical circular stapler has a handle assembly, a shaft, a stapling assembly, a motor, a drive assembly, and a firing assembly. The shaft extends distally from the handle assembly. The stapling assembly is secured to a distal end of the shaft. Longitudinal translation of the firing assembly causes the stapling assembly to drive a plurality of staples in a circular array to secure two lumens of tissue together. The stapling assembly may further drive a blade to sever any excess tissue interior of the circular array of staples. The motor is operable to rotate the drive assembly to thereby translate the firing assembly. A resilient member biases the firing assembly proximally. Through cooperation between the firing assembly and the resilient member, the firing assembly is driven distally and proximally to complete a firing stroke in response to rotation of the drive assembly through a single revolution.

  • Patent number: 5611243
Abstract: The mechanism consists of a crankshaft and connecting rods driving two rods which extend through the full length of the cylinder of the taper. The rods reciprocate 180.degree. out of phase with each other and pass through a piston assembly. Clutch mechanisms in the piston assembly engage when the rods are moving toward the head assembly and do not engage for the opposite motion. As a result the piston assembly advances toward the head assembly an increment of motion each time one of the rods moves in that direction. A mechanism in the piston assembly engages the head end of the cylinder as the piston assembly approaches the head end and prevents the clutches from engaging so that the piston assembly does not jam against the head end of the cylinder. Also, mechanism is provided to disengage both clutches and keep them disengaged so that the piston assembly is free to move as the cylinder is being filled. This mechanism involves rotating the rods to drive cams which engage the clutches to hold them disengaged.

  • Patent number: 5440945
Abstract: A hardgeared infinitely variable transmission (IVT) is provided in which at least one quick return mechanism is hardgeared to the rotating transmission input shaft. The quick return mechanisms convert the rotating motion of the transmission input shaft to a variable motion consisting of a near constant linear velocity portion and a rapid return portion for each cycle of input rotation. The near constant linear velocity portion of the motion of each quick return mechanism is selectively engaged to a conversion device which translates the motion to an output rotation. The input/output speed ratio is adjusted by varying the amount and direction of quick return mechanism motion which is selectively engaged to the conversion device. An infinite range of speed ratios can be produced, as well as output rotation in both forward and reverse directions relative to the input rotation.

  • Patent number: 5226200
Abstract: An adjustment mechanism uniquely tailored to a space crank wiper system is used to adjust the wipe angle, specifically to lower the inwipe to give a depressed park position. The characteristic spacing of a four bar spatial mechanism that drives the wiper post is shortened by a jack screw mechanism that shifts an input crank closer to the wiper post. This lowers the inwipe position. A worm wheel selectively holds or turns the jackscrew, which axially moves a splined stub shaft in the end of a drive shaft to move the crank back and forth.

  • Patent number: 4718825
Abstract: A pump stroke is matched to the operating speed of a high speed windmill. The windmill drives a hydraulic pump for a control. Changes in speed of a wind driven shaft open supply and exhaust valves to opposite ends of a hydraulic actuator to lengthen and shorten an oscillating arm thereby lengthening and shortening the stroke of an output pump. Diminishing wind to a stall speed causes the valves to operate the hydraulic cylinder to shorten the oscillating arm to zero. A pressure accumulator in the hydraulic system provides the force necessary to supply the hydraulic fluid under pressure to drive the actuator into and out of the zero position in response to the windmill shaft speed approaching and exceeding windmill stall speed.

Abstract: Gripper devices transfer covers from a magazine onto filled packing containers guided along a substantially horizontal transport trajectory. The gripper devices are on a supporting shaft which is driven via a rod system 18 by a grooved cam plate and a roller lever interacting therewith. By shortening the effective lever arm of the roller lever with the use of an adjusting unit coming into operation when the cover mounting device is blocked, the articulation point of the rod system in an elongated slot of the roller lever is altered in such a way that the stroke movement of the rod system and thus of the supporting shaft and of the suction elements or gripping devices becomes shorter, i.e. a short stroke occurs, thus ensuring that no further covers are extracted from the magazine and placed on the packing container.

Abstract: The adjustment screw that regulates the stroke length of the piston that drives a diaphragm pump is rotated by means of a clutch and "diamond-back" screw structure. By selectively engaging either of two oppositely oriented one-way clutches, one of two respective associated nuts that ordinarily rotate freely on the "diamond-back" screw is blocked from rotation when the screw moves longitudinally in one direction. Thus locked, the nut compels the "diamond-back" screw to rotate, thereby turning the adjustment screw with which it is connected in order to produce the desired increase in piston stroke length.
