Abstract: Hydraulic coupler compounds corresponding to the formula: ##STR1## in which R.sub.1 denotes a hydrogen atom or a C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl radical; R.sub.2 and R.sub.3, which may be identical or different, denote a hydrogen atom, a C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 lower alkyl radical, a carboxyl radical or an alkoxycarbonyl radical; X denotes a C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 lower alkyl radical, a C.sub.1 -C.sub.18 alkoxy radical, a halogen atom, a C.sub.1 -C.sub.20 acyloxy radical, an acetylamino group, a trimethylsilyloxy group or a dialkyl(C.sub.1 -C.sub.4)aminomethyl group, the OH group occupying the 6- or 7-positions, as well as their salts, are combined with oxidation dye precursors for dyeing keratinous fibers.

Abstract: Oxidation colorants which contain at least one secondary intermediate and at least one derivative of 5,6-dihydroxyindoline corresponding to formula (I): ##STR1## in which--independently of one another--R.sup.1 is hydrogen, a C.sub.1-4 alkyl group or a C.sub.1-4 hydroxyalkyl group,R.sup.2 is hydrogen or a --COOH group which may even be present as a salt with a physiologically compatible cation,R.sup.3 is hydrogen or a C.sub.1-4 alkyl group,R.sup.4 is hydrogen, a C.sub.1-4 alkyl group or a group --CO--R.sup.6 where R.sup.6 is a C.sub.1-4 alkyl group andR.sup.5 is one of the groups mentioned for R.sup.4,or a physiologically compatible salt of these compounds with an organic or inorganic acid in an aqueous carrier and which are free from oxidation dye precursors of the primary intermediate type enable hair to be colored in particular in black tones with no tinges of red. In particular, completely or partly grey hair can be colored in tones which come very close to the color of the hair before greying.
