Having Means To Engage Work Axially Patents (Class 81/176.15)
  • Patent number: 7272996
Abstract: A spanner socket for application with conventional hand tools such as ratchet drivers and fixed wrenches employed for imparting torque to a work piece about an axis of rotation includes a generally cylindrical shaped base member which defines a predetermined number of engagement surfaces which are circumferentially arranged around the axis of rotation. The engagement surfaces are employed for releasably coupling with the associated hand tool. Two or more elongated drive pins are carried by the base member for rotation therewith about said axis of rotation. Each drive pin defines an axis of elongation, which is parallel to the axis of rotation and spaced from the axis of rotation for engagement with the work piece for the application of torque thereto.

Abstract: The removal tool is used in connection with a locking nut and bolt system. The bolt thread has a plurality of notches generally longitudinally spaced in a predetermined pattern. The locking unit or element carries one or more tines. The tine has a distal tine end adapted to latch onto the lock face of the notch on the bolt and, when the distal tine end is not disposed in one or more notches, the tine end moves on the bolt thread crest. When the distal tine end is in the notch or notches, the lock face of the notch prevents counter-rotational movement of the bolt with respect to the nut when the distal tine end abuts the lock face. The locking unit supports the tine and may be cylindrical, rectangular or on a perpendicular support face normal to a radial plane through the axial centerline of the nut thread. • Patent number: 6609445
Abstract: A socket designed for manually siding onto a valve adapted for use in a pipe line and enabling rotational movement of the valve and thereby connection to and disconnection from the pipe line. The socket has a square drive bore at a longitudinal end thereof to enable a square drive of a wrench to be inserted therein for rotation thereof. The recess of the socket is open box shaped and dimensioned to fit snugly around the outer surfaces of the valve for snug engagement of the valve to provide rotation of the valve via rotation of the socket. The socket also has semicircular openings at opposing lateral portions thereof to receive control and mounting structures of a ball valve structure therein and fit snugly therearound to provide more positive engagement of the valve. The inner walls of the socket are flat to fit snugly against corresponding flat surfaces of the valve to provide more positive engagement of the valve.

  • Patent number: 6606773
Abstract: The present invention 10 discloses a tool used to position pool cover compression springs 14 over pool cover anchor bolts 16. The tool is substantially a tube having an angled tubular arm 22. At one distal end the tube has a section removed thereby forming a curvilinear tab 24 that can be used as a fulcrum when attaching the pool cover springs 14 to the inground anchors 16. At the other distal end the pool cover spring tool has a transverse handle 26 providing leverage while using the tool. In addition the handle 26 serves as a compartment 30 for storing tools 32 such as an alien wrench that is used to raise and lower the inground anchor bolts.

  • Patent number: 6595091
Abstract: A tool for removing and installing a golf spike, having a threaded stud and a cleat at one end of the stud, includes a tubular body that surrounds a cavity, pins projecting from an end wall at one end of the body, and an end cap closing the other end of the body. The pins are spaced and otherwise configured to fit into holes that are in the cleat, so that when a torque is applied to the body, it will be transferred to the spike. The cavity contains several replacement spikes. The end cap snaps onto the body, yet has the capacity to rotate on the body.

  • Patent number: 6591716
Abstract: A tool for removing overhead mounted smoke and heat detectors by an operator standing on the ground. The tool has a tool head supported on an extension handle for elevating the tool head into proximity to the detector unit. A number of grip elements on the tool head capture and rotate the removable head of the detector unit. The grip elements can be rearranged on the tool head into various configurations adapted to fit the shapes and sizes of different detector units, thereby providing a universal detector removal tool.

  • Patent number: 6588300
Abstract: An apparatus and method for remotely venting or opening a container sealed by a bung. The apparatus comprises a support structure, a means for attachment to the container by a strap, a bung wrench, and means for aligning and rotatably supporting the bung wrench. The alignment means allows the bung wrench to accommodate any deformation of the container face. The bung wrench can include a ratchet for multiple turns of the bung. An extension arm is connected to the bung wrench, and a cable is attachable to the end of the extension arm. The cable is attached to the extension arm, and extended away from the container in a direction whereby pulling the cable sufficient to move the extension arm will produce the desired rotation of the bung, thereby venting the container.

  • Patent number: 6564679
Abstract: An appliance clutch removal and installation tool for providing a convenient device for removing and installing an appliance clutch. The appliance clutch removal and installation tool includes a body member preferably having a relatively elongate structure, a first handle and a second handle attached to an upper end of the body member, and a plurality of cutouts extending into a lower end of the body member defining a plurality of engaging members. Each of the engaging members has a first side and a second side tapering inwardly from the exterior of the body member. The plurality of cutouts receive a corresponding plurality of teeth from the clutch member wherein the plurality of engaging members engage the teeth. The user rotates the body member while securing the threaded shaft thereby removing or installing the clutch member about the threaded shaft of the appliance.

  • Publication number: 20030047041
Abstract: An adaptor for actuating a valve by rotating a handwheel, the handwheel including a series of radially extending spokes. The adaptor includes a socket, an adaptor body, and a plurality of pegs. The socket and pegs are aligned with an axis of rotation of the body, but extend in relatively opposite directions. The pegs are adapted to engage lateral surfaces of the spokes such that, when a ratchet is inserted into the socket and used to rotate the adaptor about the axis of rotation, the pegs cause the adaptor handle to rotate with the adaptor, actuating the valve.
