Abstract: A pliers is adjustable between at least two distinct selectable size ranges. A movable pivot pin is held stable in a selected recess of a slot in both loaded and unloaded conditions. A lower jaw is adjustable between a small and a large size range. A multifunction spring is movably attached to a body to both firmly bias a lower jaw and handle to an open position and to retain the pin in a constant selected pivot position of the body for normally used conditions. The pliers include a familiar function and compact shape without additional bulk from the structures of the improved features. Only a simple wire form is required to provide the improvement of the invention in a preferred locking pliers embodiment.

  • Patent number: 7409895
Abstract: Rotary pliers include a guide tube having a guide tube wall and a guide tube longitudinal axis and a guide tube proximal end connected to a radially protruding tube rotation lever and having a tube distal end with a distally protruding plier outer jaw radially spaced from the guide tube longitudinal axis; and a torque transmission shaft rotatably retained within the guide tube having a shaft proximal end connected to a radially protruding shaft rotation lever adjacent to the tube rotation lever and having a shaft distal end with a distally protruding plier inner jaw circumferentially aligned with the plier outer jaw; so that rotation of the torque transmission shaft relative to the guide tube by pivoting the tube rotation lever and shaft rotation lever relative to each other rotates the plier inner jaw along a circumferential path which is one of: toward or away from abutment with the plier outer jaw to grip or release an object.

  • Patent number: 7353736
Abstract: A multi-function hand tool with a pivotally collapsible jaw-type tool that has a jaw lock which mechanically prevents the jaw-type tool from collapse is disclosed. The jaw lock mechanism is contained within the jaw pivot joint of the jaw-type tool, and may be partially extended as a push button to prevent unwanted handle collapse. A plurality of blades are pivotally attached to the opposite end of the multi-function tool and has a blade locking mechanism wherein the blade lock is pivoted about an axis located distal to the blade fastener/pivot axis. Each handle of the multi-function tool may be made of two individual handle halves that unite to form the handle, but that provide very precise tensioning, or the handles may be of a single channel shape using an infinitely adjustable threaded fastener and sleeve to provide precise adjustment of the multiple blades.

  • Patent number: 5636696
Abstract: A hoof sensitivity testing device, in which an L-shaped member, having a handle and a slide, is positioned so that the slide passes through a hole in a pivoting arm, having a handle and a jaw. The pivoting arm rotationally moves around a pivot pin, located on the L-shaped member and pivoting arm. A second jaw is positioned on the slide, which allows the second jaw to move laterally in relation to the first jaw, so that the mouth portion, defined by the jaws, can grip a wide range of objects. The adjustable positioning of the jaws allow them to apply force along a shared axial line to various portions of the bottom of an animal hoof, to test for sensitivity to pressure in the hoof.

  • Patent number: 5142776
Abstract: In a heat sealing operation for environmentally isolating joints and connections, a spring actuated clamp is utilized to provide positive engagement of the heat shrinkable material in the area between the members being connected. The clamp has two juxtaposed clamp arms with opposed convex clamping jaws. The clamp arms are resiliently loaded by a coil spring so the convex surfaces on the clamping jaws are placed into a clamping relationship on the heat shrinkable material.
