Both Jaws Adjustable Patents (Class 81/387)
  • Patent number: 11992929
Abstract: A hollow rod developable actuator tool including a first link comprising an outer cylinder, a deployment ring including second link comprising a first portion pivotably connected to the first link at a first joint mounted in a first cavity in the wall of the outer cylinder and a third link comprising a second tool portion pivotably connected to the first portion at a second link, and a fourth link comprising an inner cylinder to which the second portion of the deployment ring is also pivotably connected at a third link mounted in a second cavity in the wall of the inner cylinder. When the inner cylinder of the fourth link is rotated in relation to the outer cylinder of the first link the actuator tool transitions from a first state where the deployment ring is stowed within the tool to a second state where the deployment ring is deployed externally.

  • Patent number: 7921752
Abstract: A multi-function hand tool with a pivotally collapsible jaw-type tool that has a jaw lock which mechanically prevents the jaw-type tool from collapse. The jaw lock mechanism is contained within the jaw pivot joint of the jaw-type tool, and may be partially extended as a push button to prevent unwanted handle collapse. A plurality of blades are pivotally attached to the opposite end of the multi-function tool, which has a blade locking mechanism wherein the blade lock is pivoted about an axis located distal to the blade fastener/pivot axis. Each handle of the multi-function tool may be made of two individual handle halves that unite to form the handle, but that provide very precise tensioning, or the handles may be of a single channel shape using an infinitely adjustable threaded fastener and sleeve to provide precise adjustment of the multiple blades.

  • Publication number: 20100162859
Abstract: A hand tool for assembling and disassembling a plurality of workpieces is provided. The hand tool comprises a pair of handle members, a pair of intermediate members pivotally coupled to the pair of handle members, a pair of jaw members pivotally coupled to the pair of intermediate members, a spring member mounted between the pair of handle members, and a locking mechanism configured on the pair of handle members. Accordingly, upon applying a grasping force to the pair of handle members, the spring member is compressed and the pair of intermediate members converge towards each other thereby allowing the pair of jaw members to grasp the at least a portion of the workpiece therebetween for assembling and disassembling the plurality of workpieces. Further, upon grasping the at least a portion of the workpiece, the pair of handle members are held in a locked state by the locking mechanism.

  • Patent number: 6145417
Abstract: A plier for inserting and removing retaining rings and other purposes. The plier is convertible for alternately closing and opening of the jaws as the handles are closed. The handles and jaws are rotatable about a pivot shaft. Cams effect movement of the key members between a first position wherein a first key member connects a first handle to a first jaw and a second key member connects a second handle to a first jaw whereby the jaws move inwardly as the handles move inwardly and a second position wherein the first key member connects the first handle to the second jaw and the second key member connects the second handle to the first jaw whereby the jaws move outwardly as the handles are moved inwardly. The plier includes a storage cavity for tips and tip change tools.

  • Patent number: 6128943
Abstract: The present invention is an adjustment mechanism for both hand and production tools of any capacity. An eccentric pin mechanism provides the pivot between two handles or other load transferring members. The rotation of the pin moves the two members closer or farther apart, indirectly controlling the final position of the blades or jaws. This adjustment can be used to compensate for wear or to provide adjustment for a specific use. The eccentric pin is locked into position by means of a pressure pin mechanism. For light duty tools, this pressure pin mechanism would consist of a spring loaded pin which resists rotation of the eccentric pin during normal operation of the tool. The spring loaded pin would allow rotation of the eccentric pin when a tool is used to rotate it. For heavy duty applications, the pressure pin mechanism would consist of a solid set screw.

  • Patent number: 6098508
Abstract: An improved pliers having a first and second member. The first member includes a jaw operatively connected to a first handle, and the second member includes a second jaw operatively connected to a second handle. A slot is located in one of the members between the jaw and the handle. A pin in the other member extends into the slot and is secured therein to hold the members together while permitting relative motion between them. The slot may have different shapes but must be long and wide enough to allow the pin unrestricted motion. A projection extends from one of the members and engages a pivot area which may be a surface or a notch on the other member. In two embodiments of this invention, two pivot notches are used to give two different ranges of motion to the jaws. Different shapes of jaws may be used for specialized purposes, such as, opening pipe clamps or removing oil filters.

  • Patent number: 6006633
Abstract: A pliers comprises a pair of elongated members having jaw portions, handle portions, and neck portions therebetween with the neck portions overlying each other and the jaw portions thereof having opposed clamping faces. One of the elongated members has a slot in its neck portion angled toward the handle portion from an imaginary line extending between the clamping faces, and a boss on the rear surface of its neck portion adjacent the imaginary line which abuts a shoulder on the rear surface of the neck portion of the other elongated member. The elongated members of the pliers may be fabricated as laminates of sheet metal elements. The boss/shoulder abutment provides a first pivot, and a pivot pin is movable from the end of the slot adjacent the imaginary line during opening of the jaws to abut the other end of the slot to provide a second pivot.

  • Patent number: 5282826
Abstract: A surgical instrument comprising an elongated tubular hollow shaft, first and second opposable jaws pivotable at the distal end of the shaft, and first and second opposable dissecting tips pivotable at the ends of the jaws. The jaws are generally pivotable in first and second parallel planes and the tips are pivotable in third and fourth planes which are generally perpendicular to the first and second planes, respectively. A first handle is fixedly attached to the proximal end of the hollow shaft, and a second handle is pivotably connected to the first handle. The jaws are opened and closed by a rod which extends through the hollow shaft and has one end connected to the first and second jaws and its other end connected to the second handle. The angle of the tips is adjusted by a trigger plate pivotably attached to the first handle, and first and second wires attached at one end to the trigger plate and at the other end to the first and second tips, respectively.

  • Patent number: 5203241
Abstract: A plier-like tool having links added between the jaws and the body of the pliers. The links not only extend the length of the jaw side of the pliers, but also pivot relative to each other and perpendicular to the opening and closing direction of the pliers. The screws in these links can be left untightened to permit the links to pivot allowing the jaws to gain access into restricted areas otherwise inaccessible. Even with the link-screws loose the gripping force is transferred through the links to the jaws enabling the user to still grip objects or even retrieve them by simply pulling the pliers back out and letting the links follow. An additional aspect to the flex-link pliers is that the link-screws can be tightened so the links maintain their position relative to each other so the user can create any shape pliers desired.

Abstract: A plier-like tool (11) having two plier-like members (13, 15) pivotally joined togther intermediate of their ends and having handle portions (17, 18) and swivel jaw members (29,30). An automatic locking mechanism (27) extending between the members permits an user to clamp the handle portions together so as to clamp the jaw members on an object (25) but holds the position so reached if the clamping action of the user is removed.
