Rotatable Element Located Between And Camming Against Components Patents (Class 81/446)
  • Patent number: 11542762
Abstract: A multi-tooth jaw for a torque stopper device prevents rotation of downhole tools suspended in a wellbore casing. The jaw includes a base for positioning adjacent an outside wall of the torque stopper and a hinge connection allowing the jaw to pivot around an axis of rotation running lengthwise through the base. The jaw further includes a plurality of radial tips, i.e., teeth, each a different distance from the axis of rotation. When viewed from a side with the axis of rotation being a point around which the jaw pivots, the tips are in ascending order of distance with a first, leading tip having a shortest distance from the axis of rotation as the jaw pivots from a stowed to a deployed position. A torque stopper device with the multi-tooth jaw supports a range of casing internal diameters. A repair kit allows swapping a one-tooth jaw with the multi-tooth jaw.

  • Patent number: 7992468
Abstract: A spinner tool has a shaft that is receivable in a rotation-imparting device, such as a hand-held drill. The shaft carries mounts in which the shaft rotates. Gripper elements are mounted between the mounts for radial movement relative to the shaft. The shaft is configured to move the gripper elements away from the shaft away from the shaft upon rotation of the shaft. This movement of the gripper elements causes the gripper elements to engage the interior surface of a hollow-cylindrical element in which the tool is inserted, so that the hollow-cylindrical element rotates together with the shaft.

  • Patent number: 7024972
Abstract: Disclosed is a tool for both removing and tightening screw-on drains that is simple and easy to use, has a simple design and is easy to manufacture. The tool is capable of engaging an inner surface of a drain flange in a manner that is sufficient to transfer enough force to remove screw-on drain flanges and is capable of use with various designs and sizes of screw-on drain flanges. Different size cams and different lever arms used on the cams allow the tool to optimize the radial force to torque ratio for both removal and insertion of screw-on drain flanges. In addition, nubs are used at the bottom of the drain flange to engage arms that typically are used on drain flanges to further add to the resistance that can be provided between the tool and the drain flange and distribute forces in a dynamic, instantaneous and automatic fashion to optimize removal of the drain flange.

  • Patent number: 6904835
Abstract: Disclosed is a coupler that grips the internal surface of a torque receptor such as a pipe or driveshaft to be turned. When torque is applied to the coupler, one or more gripping surfaces are forced apart by a cam mechanism. The gripping surfaces tightly engage the internal surface of the pipe in response to movement of an internal cam. Torque applied to the wrench causes the pipe to turn. Because the wrench grips the internal diameter of a torque receptor, it can be used without damaging the external surface of the torque receptor, and used in very confined spaces. The gripping surfaces distribute the gripping load evenly across the pipe, which minimizes any deformation of the pipe.

The pin and shaft are inserted into a bore formed in a stud to be extracted and the shaft is rotated relative to the pin and stud. This causes the camming surfaces to jam the rod portions of the pin against the wall of the bore to prevent further relative rotation and cause the stud to rotate with the shaft. In a preferred embodiment, the pin includes an upper lip which prevents the pin from sliding completely into the bore of the stud.
