Abstract: A filter turning mechanism is attached to an engine in proximity to a filter (such as an oil filter), and may be used to install or remove a filter by turning the filter. The filter turning mechanism contacts a filter, and rotates the filter when the filter turning mechanism is rotated with a tool. One implementation of the filter turning mechanism includes an inner drive gear and a filter drive mechanism. The inner drive gear normally spins freely within the filter drive mechanism, but when pushed into the filter drive mechanism with a suitable tool such as a ratchet extension, the inner drive gear engages the filter drive mechanism, thereby causing rotation of the inner drive gear to rotate the filter drive mechanism as well, which in turn rotates the filter.

Abstract: Three congruent prongs (16A, 16B, 16C) mounted on a shaft tube (12), converges simultaneously when an operating sleeve (14) moves forward. This action, along with their notches and shape provides a firm grip for holding and starting nuts and bolts. These prongs, made out of 304 grade stailess steel bands, provide good spring-like flexibility and rigidity. The concave sides of the prongs mate with the outside surface of the shaft tube (12) every time the operating sleeve (14) is moved forward. These physical features provide consistent alignment of the prongs every time the tool is used. With rubber sealant (16D) coated on the inside surface of the prongs, the nut and bolt starter gives a firm grip to hold and start a wide variety of shapes and sizes of screws, nuts and bolts. Additional uses of this tool are done with the prop rod (20) supplementing the prongs.

The bar is generally hollow and has a hole extending through the distal and proximal ends. An outer surface of the peripheral wall positioned adjacent to the distal end is knurled. The bar has a break therein located generally adjacent to the distal end such that a first portion and a second portion of the bar is defined. The first portion abuts the distal end. The break extends from the peripheral wall to a point generally adjacent to the distal end in an angular relationship to a longitudinal axis of the bar. An inside surface of the first portion is threaded. A rod is elongate and has a first end and a second end. The rod has a threaded outer surface.

Abstract: The fastener-driving tool has an locking insert which expands or displaces to more securely lock the tool in the fastener. The tool has a distal end configured to engage a driving recess in a fastener, and has an annular recess adjacent the distal end, with a reduced cross-section at the annular recess, other than an axial circular cross-section. A locking insert having a generally similar cross-section to that of the distal end is positioned in the annular recess closely around the reduced cross-section. The locking insert may have a split portion which permits expansion of the locking insert when acted upon by the reduced cross-section as a result of rotation of the distal end relative to the locking insert, or may provide locking simply by displacement resulting from being acted upon by the reduced cross-section.

Abstract: A screw-gripping screwdriver includes a handle, a shaft composed of two blade members, a sleeve which is disposed coaxially about the blade members, and a tip. The blade members have inclined surfaces which cooperate with the sleeve so that, during movement of the sleeve along the blade members, a camming action occurs so that a relatively large movement of the sleeve causes a relatively small movement of the blade tips. In a preferred embodiment, each blade tip is an L-shaped portion, which in a first position of the sleeve adjacent to the handle, cooperates with the other one of the L-shaped portions to form a generally cruciform shape suitable for use with a Phillips head screw. In a second position, the sleeve has cammed the blade members toward one another so that the L-shaped portions are in frictional engagement with the interior walls of a cruciform opening in a Phillips head screw. In another embodiment, the blade tips are generally rectangular members suitable for use with a slot head screw.
