  • Patent number: 5461647
Abstract: A tool for use with an integral reusable locking arrangement between the guide tubes and upper end fitting in a nuclear fuel assembly. A positioner on the tool locates the tool on the upper end fitting grillage and aligns a wrench on the tool with projections on a spring collar used in the locking arrangement. The wrench on the lower end of the tool has slots that engage with the reusable locking arrangement on the guide tube upon application of downward pressure on the tool driver. Rotation of the driver causes corresponding rotation of the spring collar on the reusable locking arrangement for locking or unlocking of the upper end fitting in place relative to the guide tubes. Axial and rotational motion of the driver is limited by interaction between a set screw on the positioner and slots in the driver. Upward motion of the driver disengages the wrench from the spring collar for removal of the tool.

  • Patent number: 5370022
Abstract: A fastener driving tool which uses the mechanical advantage of a lever to aid in the loosening and tightening of screws, bolts, nuts, and the like. The tool amplifies the force of a user that is exerted on a fastener bit (e.g. screwdriver blade) and a fastener head (e.g. screw head) thereby reducing the chance of the fastener bit slipping off the fastener head. A lever arm has a first end which attaches to an adjacent nearby screw or bolt. The fastener bit is attached to the lever arm and engages the targeted fastener head. The fastener bit functions as the fulcrum (i.e. the support about which the lever turns) of the lever arm. The user exerts downward force on the second end of the lever arm while using a conventional torquing tool (e.g. screwdriver, wrench, etc.) to loosen or tighten the hard to turn fastener.

  • Patent number: 5056386
Abstract: The improved screwdriver bit and finder system of the present invention substantially aligns the axis of a screwdriver bit with the axis of a slotted-head fastener and maintains the alignment while the fastener is being driven. The inside diameter of a cylindrical finder and the diameter of a cylindrical driver portion and blade formed on an end of the bit are substantially matched in four different systems, with four discrete ranges of fastener head diameters. These matched systems of the present invention minimize the problems generated by conventional "one size fits all" bit and finders, namely, bit "wobble" in the finder and misalignment of the bit axis with the fastener axis, resulting in damaged bits and fasteners. In contrast, the axial alignment produced by the bit and finder system of the present invention minimizes the amount of driving force required and saves bits and fasteners from damage.

Abstract: Depth locator apparatus for insert bit holders provides a means for adjustably setting the depth of a screw head relative to a fastened work-piece surface. The apparatus is comprised of a sleeve, externally threaded, and with an internal bore to affixedly engage the drive end of a bit holder. The apparatus additionally includes two locking rings with internal threads to engage the external thread of the sleeve. The depth of the fastener relative to the work-piece surface is determined by the location of the outermost lock ring, relative to the insert bit, as it locates against the surface, being constrained against axial movement by the rearmost lock ring.

  • Patent number: 4833951
Abstract: The socket of a plug and socket type coupling is mounted with an assembly tool which makes sure that a threaded connection between the socket and a mounting member is properly tightened. When the socket is to be mounted, the socket is operated to a disengaged condition and the assembly tool is inserted into the socket. The socket is then operated to an engaged condition. This causes locking elements in the socket to engage the assembly tool to hold the assembly tool in the socket. Torque is then applied to the assembly tool. When the threaded connection has been tightened to a desired extent, a breakaway section of the assembly tool fractures to interrupt the transmission of force to the socket. The socket is then operated to the released condition and the end portion of the broken assembly tool is removed from the socket. A plug is then inserted in the socket to enable fluid under pressure to be conducted through the coupling.
