Patent number: 4106379Abstract: The present trimming apparatus is capable of trimming the margins of three-dimensional workpieces with the aid of strip steel knives which are driven, preferably by pneumatic piston cylinder means in any desired direction. The workpiece such as the dashboard of a car, is held on the outside thereof by a workpiece support which has such a shape and cut-outs that the strip steel knives may be moved through the workpiece support. A counter-holder presses the workpiece against the outer support. In this combination of elements the workpiece may be trimmed from any direction from its outer side inwardly. The trimming tools may be operable in sequence and may also be supported on a carriage which shuttles back and forth between a trimming station and a loading and unloading station. Power savings may be in the order of 90% as compared to the power requirements of conventional stamping tools.Type: GrantFiled: June 24, 1977Date of Patent: August 15, 1978Assignee: Stanztechnik GmbH R & SInventor: Ernst Maximilian Spengler

Patent number: 4068997Abstract: Apparatus for use with a pair of thermoplastic strips of the type illustrated in U.S. Pat. No. 3,608,177 wherein one strip is formed with studs longitudinally spaced at intervals and a second strip apertured and counterbored at the same intervals is used to bind sheets apertured at the same intervals at locations spaced inward from one marginal edge is described. A pressure bar is first manually moved to operative position and a handle compresses the strips together by exerting a controlled force on the pressure bar. Patent number: 4028974Abstract: This invention provides an improved method and an improved apparatus for cutting bitumen cakes or like products from a sheet of the product previously cast in a flat-bottomed basin, during the cooling of the sheet. The cakes are cut out of strips previously cut out of said sheet. A transverse girder mounted on wheels span the basin, and suspended from the girder is a carriage supporting a pivoted heated cutter. As the cutter moves in the cutting direction it cuts a transverse strip of product and carries along a trolley provided with a wedge member adapted at the same time to raise the cut strip. The carriage also comprises a pusher arm whereby, during the return stroke of said carriage, said pusher arm can drive the fully cut strip towards another cutter of the guillotine type which cuts the cakes out of the strip. During the strip cutting step, the carriage also carries along a belt so as to insert the same under the strip as it is cut by said first cutter.Type: GrantFiled: December 30, 1974Date of Patent: June 14, 1977Inventor: Jean-Jacques Collet

Patent number: 3962939Abstract: In a glassmaking process, a pair of reciprocating blades are used to cut a stream of molten glass into discrete charges known as "gobs". The cutting surfaces of the shear blades are maintained in a spaced-apart relationship by pairs of raised portions or rails formed in or on the facing blade surfaces. The raised portions or rails of the blades keep the blades separated a specified distance and thereby extend the wear life of the blades by eliminating friction between the cutting surfaces of the blades. A solid film lubricant is applied to the blades and serves to lubricate both cutting surfaces of the blades, thus the blade surfaces that contact the molten glass stream are lubricated to avoid the possibility of the glass sticking to the shear blades.Type: GrantFiled: May 22, 1975Date of Patent: June 15, 1976Assignee: Owens-Illinois, Inc.Inventor: Edward J.
