A shiftable, grooved cam switch is operatively interposed in the cam arrangement for selectively directing the blade holder cams into one or the other of the cam grooves, thereby camming the associated blade holders and blades between their respective positions.

  • Patent number: 5293799
Abstract: A punching and perforating cylinder and a die and anvil cylinder are part of a computer paper processing system producing the line holes and the cross perforation in a continuous paper web. The PUNCH/PERF cylinder is mounted on an upper shaft, while the DIE/ANVIL cylinder is mounted on a lower shaft. The upper and lower shafts are rotatably engaged by a set of gears. At both ends of the PUNCH/PERF cylinder, holes are located to accept the PUNCHES. At both ends of the DIE/ANVIL cylinder, holes are located to accept the DIES. While the two cylinders are rolling together, the punches engage with the dies and form the punched line holes in the continuous paper web. The PUNCH/PERF cylinder has longitudinally formed slots, providing the space for the cross perforating blades and for the cross perforating blade clamping bars. The DIE/ANVIL cylinder has longitudinally formed slots, providing the space for the hardened anvil bars.

  • Patent number: 5216962
Abstract: The present invention relates to a shear for shearing laminar elements, flat material. This shear comprises at least one pair of blade-holders and associated blades which move substantially parallel to each other along straight lines which are spaced apart a predetermined distance from each other. The predetermined distance is computed as a function of the thickness of the material and the nature of the material which is to be sheared. The blades have cutting edges which, at the time of shearing, apply a pair of mutually perpendicular forces Fx and Fy to the material being sheared. The force Fy acts along a straight line perpendicular to a plane or surface through the material or upon which the material rests. It is along the straight line of the force Fy that the blade-holders and blades move during the shearing operation.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for bonding thin film supplied from a continuous roll to at least one bonding surface along the entire length of a discrete printed surface base plate and efficiently cutting the film to a proper length which covers an entire planar surface of the board. Each board is conveyed to a film bonding position and the leading end of the continuous film is transported to the film bonding position that is held by suction. A compression bonding roller moves across the surface of the board and automatically feeds film and bonds the film to the board while leaving a portion of the film loose over the trailing end of the board. A cutter comprising a rotary blade and a fixed blade disposed across the direction of movement of the film and the board is mounted on a slide bed which is moveable towards and away from the film. The rotary blade is obliquely oriented in order to permit the cutting of the film when the blade is rotated in opposition to the fixed blade.

  • Patent number: 5146820
Abstract: The cutting apparatus and method of the present invention involve feeding a newsprint wrapper or any other sheet of paper downwardly along a planar path between two rotating cutters. Each of the cutters includes a planar blade member with an outer, sawtoothed cutting portion. In operation, the blade members are rotated about respective axes to move their cutting portions downwardly along arcuate paths that preferably pass through the path of the downwardly fed sheet. The arcuate paths of the cutting portions overlap and one of the cutting portions of the blade members is spaced farther from its rotational axis than the other. It is also moved tangentially faster about its axis than the cutting portion of the other blade member. In this manner, a cutting action is produced which first punctures and then subsequently tears or shreds a horizontal cut across the downwardly fed sheet to cut it into smaller pieces or segments.

Abstract: An apparatus for dividing scrap tires having a compression transport in a rotary shear station. The compression transport centers the tire and provides forces onto the treaded periphery to buckle the scrap tire. The compression transport then feeds the tire to the rotary shear station in a straight-line manner. The rotary shear station has overlapping and counter-rotating circular shears that make at least one cut along the length of the collapsed tire to produce annular tire segments. The movement of the collapsed tire relative to the rotary shear station remains a linear movement during the shearing process. Preferably, the rotary shearing station includes a pair of coaxial circular shears that are spaced apart by a third shear supported on a shaft parallel to a shaft supporting the spaced pair of shears. In this manner, the scrap tire is reduced to three segments as a pair of shearing cuts are made parallel to the flattened tread of the scrap tire.
